Anticoagularnt Therapy In Primary Antiphospholipid Syndrome Patient After Cerebrovascular Accident : A Casereport, Hsu-Ping Chien, Willy Chou, Yu-Lin Wang, Kao-Chang Lin

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Primary antiphospholipid syndrome is a rare disease of vasculopathy, which is usually found in the stroke partient with onset during childhood and young adulthood. We report a female patient who had a history of multiple spontaneous abortions in the past. However, the diagnosis was not made until a cerebrovascular accident happened to her. After then, she started to receive anticoagulant therapy and rehabilitation program. No further cerebrovascular accident occurred in the following 22 months. By this report, we remind that a female patient with history of frequent abortion needs to be investigated carefully to search the possibility of antiphospholipid syndrome.

Bilateral Facial Palsy: A Casereport And Literature Review, Yu-Chin Chen, Shin-Ching Chen, Chien-Chung Lai, Chien-Hung Lai, Chih-Yu Chiu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Bilateral peripheral facial palsy (BPFP) is a rare disease. It occurs in less than one percent of patients with facial palsy. The average annual incidence rate is 0.13 to 0.2 persons per million. The etiologies of BPFP differ a little from those of unilateral peripheral facial palsy. The diagnosis depends on a series of complete examinations. We reported two cases with BPFP. One was bilateral simultaneous, and the other was bilateral alternating type. Case one was a patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome. His residual bilateral facial palsy lasted more than two months after the paresis of four limbs had subsided. The …

The Pitfall Of Low Back Pain - Psoas Abscess, Pei-Dery Sheu, Jue-Long Wang, Shwu-Fen Sun, Chiao-Wen Hwang, Kuen-Huang Chen

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

The clinical presentation of psoas abscess is variable and nonspecific. The triad of fever, flank pain, and limitation of hip movement, which is specific for psoas abscess, is present in only less than 30% of the cases. Therefore, delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, resulting in the high mortality and morbidity, is not uncommon. A primary psoas abscess has no obvious focus of infection. It is believed that hematogeneous spread occurs from an occult source, analogous to acute osteomyelitis. Hematoma due to trauma may be the pathogenesis. The most common pathogen is staphylococcus. Secondary psoas abscess is defined as occurring by direct …

Prosthetic Fabrication Of Elbow Disarticulations: A Casereport, Wai-Keung Lee, Chien-Jung Wang, Tong-Chu Chen, Li-Ting Liu, Li-Chang Chang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Elbow disarticulation(ED) is very rare in upper limb amputation. Traditionally prosthetic fabrication of ED is fitted with a medial window on the socket for the bulbous distal residual limb to pass through. Afterwards, closing of the medial window is followed for suspension, which usually raises cosmetic concerns on the client's part. This casereport aims to introduce a double socket fabricating method to address the above-mentioned issue to promote the client's life quality and ADL independence.
