Sikaiana Oral Stories
The Story of Tehui Atahu
This is a transcript and translation of 12 pages given to me by Edwin Huilani on Sikaiana, in 1981-2. The story is about the founder hero of Sikaiana, Tehui Atahu. The back page of the manuscript is dated August 1972. Although I do not know the source, the story follows closely the stories that I heard on Sikaiana, although there are several different versions with minor differences. The original and translation should be of interest to Sikaiana people and might be an aid in language preservation.

Public School Desegregation In Virginia From 1954 To The Present, Adolph H. Grundman
Public School Desegregation In Virginia From 1954 To The Present, Adolph H. Grundman
Wayne State University Dissertations
This dissertation is an examination of the struggle to desegregate the public schools of Virginia from 1954 to 1972. The Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education attacked the social foundation of eleven southern states when it declared that racially segregated schools were "inherently unequal." Brown I,, in fact, was one of many controversial decisions made by the Supreme Court as it reflected the egalitarian spirit of the 1950's and 1960's. By 1970, however, a growing list of legal scholars questioned the wisdom and effectivemess of the Warren Court's judicial activism. My major objective was to trace the tortuous …

A Comparison Of Values In Black And White Children In The Upper, Middle And Lower Social Classes, Emmanuel Ola Atolagbe
Master's Theses
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study was to (1) discover if the value system of blacks is different from the value system of whites, and (2) to determine if social class is a significant influencing factor in the shaping of values.
Methods and Procedures
Many studies have been conducted in which the values of blacks and whites of both sexes in the lower, middle and upper classes were examined. Schuster (1968) conducted a study in which the values of blacks and whites of both sexes in the upper social class were examined. Lott and Lott (1963) examined …
