Building Health Resilience Against The Threat Of “Jakarta Sinking”: A Scoping Review, Risky Kusuma Hartono, Dewi Shinta

In Jakarta, land subsidence amplifies flood risks—often described as the city “sinking”—which increases exposure to waterborne and vector-borne diseases, disrupts essential health services, and undermines health system resilience. This review examines how subsidence-induced flood amplification impacts health and its implications for system resilience. This study employs a literature review approach that combines narrative synthesis with scoping-oriented evidence mapping. Peer-reviewed articles in English or Indonesian (2015–2025) were searched across PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Portal Garuda using the following terms: flooding, Jakarta land subsidence, health impacts, and health system resilience. The Lincy Institute released new research evaluating the Southern Nevada pediatric care ecosystem. The report, "An Evaluation of Southern Nevada’s Pediatric Care Ecosystem," offers recommendations to develop a stronger and more coordinated pediatric care ecosystem before the stand-alone children’s hospital being developed by Intermountain Health opens in 2030 and identifies the components of an integrated statewide network to provide all of Nevada’s children with access to high-quality care. In 2024, The Lincy Institute and the Nevada Health and Bioscience Corporation released a report prepared by the consulting firm Tripp Umbach detailing the case for a stand-alone children’s hospital in Southern Nevada. Shortly thereafter, Intermountain Health announced it would build Nevada’s first such facility in Las Vegas, expected to open in 2030. To complement the hospital’s development, The Lincy Institute undertook an independent evaluation of the regional pediatric care landscape. Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (mRDTs) are widely used for malaria diagnosis and surveillance; however, their performance is influenced by parasite density. This study assessed the relationship between parasite density and mRDT positivity among school-aged children (SAC) across diverse malaria transmission settings in mainland Tanzania. Data were obtained from 17,131 school-aged children participating in a nationwide malaria survey. Malaria infection was assessed using mRDT and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) targeting the Plasmodium falciparum lactate dehydrogenase (PfLDH) gene. Background: This study analysed the coverage and determinant factors for COVID-19 vaccination in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C). These are war-affected provinces that have experienced prolonged armed conflict, potentially limiting vaccine access.

Methods: A cross-sectional analysis of 9,795 people aged at least 15 years old and older fromyears from the 2023–2024 D.R.C Demographic and Health III Survey was conducted. Weighted descriptive statistics, design-adjusted chi-square tests, and multivariable logistic regression identified determinants of vaccination uptake.

Screening activities conducted through health facility-based screening and active case finding (ACF) provide opportunities to identify TB cases with DM comorbidity. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics of TB-DM cases identified through screening activities in Indonesia in 2024. HIV infection among people who inject drugs (PWID) remains a substantial public health burden, with Jakarta consistently reporting among the highest PWID-associated HIV prevalence in Indonesia. This study aimed to identify factors associated with HIV infection among PWID in Jakarta, utilizing secondary data from the 2023 Integrated Biological and Behavioral Survey (IBBS 2023). A cross-sectional study design was employed using secondary data from 261 PWID recruited in Jakarta. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are a key population contributing to the largest proportion of new HIV infections among the adult population in Indonesia, accounting for 44% of new infections in 2024. Disaster risks in tourism villages are increasing, generating multidimensional impacts on environmental, economic, institutional, and public health. In late 2024, Mattabulu Tourism Village experienced an 83% decline in tourist visits following a series of disasters, disrupting tourism activities and weakening local governance capacity. This study uses a qualitative case study design to evaluate disaster mitigation policy implementation through the “Sipatokkong” Program. More than one million Indonesian citizens travel abroad for medical treatment each year, generating financial transactions exceeding IDR 180 trillion (USD 11.5 billion). This study aimed to explore the reasons why Indonesians seek medical treatment overseas. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed using in-depth interviews with Indonesian citizens who had received or were currently receiving medical treatment outside Indonesia. All interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed through coding to identify themes, subthemes, and related properties. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted over an approximately three-year period with sample collection events occurring March 13-21, 2023, March 17 – 23, 2024, and February 18 – 26, 2025. Samples were taken across 4 brick kilns in Bhaktapur, Nepal, including Kiln 1 in 2023, Kiln 2 in 2024, and Kilns 3 and 4 in 2025. Participants (N = 248) were recruited by convenience sampling from kiln 1 (n = 49), kiln 2 (n = 70), kiln 3 (n = 69), and kiln 4 (n = 60).

The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional secondary data analysis was to examine the relationship between music engagement and self-reported quality of life among adults aged 60 years and older, using data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). Guided by the Biopsychosocial-Spiritual (BPSS) framework, the study explored whether music engagement significantly predicted perceived well-being in later adulthood while accounting for chronic health conditions. The purpose of this qualitative mini ethnography adapted from traditional ethnography with limited time and scope, was to explore and understand perceptions of barriers and facilitators to health literacy among Black Americans with overweight and obesity in three South Carolina counties. Population data showed that approximately 40.3% of U.S. adults are obese. Moreover, Non-Hispanic Black communities are disproportionately affected by overweight and obesity despite efforts to combat the weight-related health risk. This dissertation analyzes data from a respondent driven sampling (RDS) study of people who inject drugs in Portland, OR.  The objective was to assess assumptions for the use of weighted estimators to estimate a population physical contact (syringe sharing) network degree distribution.

Visualization of degree distribution for social and physical networks, Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests of difference, and kernel tests of equivalence were used for comparison of distributions. OBJECTIVES: To qualitatively explore the lived experiences of individuals with post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) in Rwanda, with the aim of informing context-appropriate interventions to improve patients' quality of life.

DESIGN: Qualitative, phenomenological study using in-depth interviews and thematic analysis.

SETTING: All provinces of Rwanda, including the City of Kigali.

PARTICIPANTS: Adults who tested positive for PASC during a nationwide prevalence study were purposively sampled across all study sites. A total of 30 people were interviewed before saturation was reached.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) remains a major cause of mortality and hospitalization despite advances in guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT). Electronic health record (EHR)-based clinical decision support tools may improve care delivery, but their impact on outcomes remains ill-defined.

PROJECT RATIONALE: As part of a system-wide HF quality improvement initiative, we evaluated 2 EHR interventions: an evidence-based HF admission order set promoting early diuresis and GDMT optimization, and a templated HF documentation tool (HFNOTE) designed to capture clinical complexity.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospitalization, morbidity, and mortality. Despite evidence supporting guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), prescribing remains suboptimal, particularly at hospital discharge.

PROJECT RATIONALE: Hospitalization provides an opportunity to initiate or optimize GDMT, but workflow barriers and practice variation limit implementation. BACKGROUND: Institutional barriers are associated with suboptimal guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) prescribing at heart failure discharge.

PROJECT RATIONALE: Practice variations between academic medical centers (defined as "teaching" hospitals with residents) and community hospitals are poorly understood. Evaluating how diverse settings respond to quality improvement strategies is vital.

PROJECT SUMMARY: A multicenter study across 10 electronic health record-unified hospitals evaluated 3,535 heart failure encounters. Purpose: High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is an oxygen delivery method with numerous benefits for severely ill patients. There is a paucity of research focused on the perspectives of patients receiving HFNC oxygen therapy. Social determinants of health (SDOH) screening is increasingly embedded in clinical care, yet the work of asking, documenting, and responding to social needs often falls to social workers and nurses or professional case managers who operate under significant time, staffing, and system constraints. We conducted a narrative review to examine how SDOH influence outcomes, identify systemic and emotional barriers to effective screening, and synthesize evidence-informed strategies that support implementation.
