Contamination Of Stuffed Cloth Toys On A Pediatric Unit, Virginia Lois Fowler, Dynnette Nelson Hart
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of the study was to determine if cloth stuffed toys used by children in the pediatric unit of Loma Linda University Hospital carry microbacterial pathogens that are the same type as those pathogens found in the throat of the child using the toy. A second purpose was to determine how long the selected pathogens, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Diplococcus pneumonia, survive on the same cloth toys as used in the selected hospital. Throat cultures were taken of twenty-four patients and each patient was given a cloth stuffed toy selected to be studied. Cultures of the toys were …

Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
This interesting case report comes from an alumnus of Henry Ford Hospital - Dr. Carlos Petrozzi who was a medical resident here from July 1961 to 1964. The Cerebellopontile Angle, The Blood Supply Of The Brain Stem And The Reticular Formation: Anatomical And Functional Correlations Relevant To Surgery Of Acoustic Tumors, Jose Bebin
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
The cerebellopontile angle and the vascular supply of the adjacent brain stem and cerebellum are susceptible to compression and damage by tumor and may be injured, directly or indirectly, during surgery. Awareness of the normal anatomical features of the region is valuable to the neuropathologist, the neurosurgeon and the neuro-otologist. Following is the first of a two-part presentation which describes the anatomy of the cerebellopontile angle, the vascular supply of the brain stem and its pathophysiology.

A Brief History Of The Namru-3 Medical Zoology Program, Harry Hoogstraal
United States Naval Medical Research Unit 3: Publications
The NAMRU-3 Medical Zoology program began during Easter week of 1950. We had just closed the NAMRU-3 field station at Torit, in Equatoria Province of soulheastern Sudan, and were heading homeward to the United States. However, the offer to remain in Egypt for a year or two to develop a Medical Zoology department at NAMRU-3 provided an interesting challenge after working for several years in tropical forests and grasslands of Africa and other continents. We shall briefly describe subsequent events under four headings: (1) Medical Zoology in Egypt, (2) Ticks and Tickborne Diseases of the World, (3) Kala Azar in …
Tetracycline-Based Histological Measurement Of Corticalendosteal Bone Formation In Normal And Osteoporotic Rib, Sam Jett, Kent Wu, Harold M. Frost
Tetracycline-Based Histological Measurement Of Corticalendosteal Bone Formation In Normal And Osteoporotic Rib, Sam Jett, Kent Wu, Harold M. Frost
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
It is necessary to understand the pathophysiology of osteoporosis in order to cure or prevent it. This involves establishing normal standards of bone formation and comparing these with measurements in osteoporotics. Here the authors present data collected through more sophisticated techniques than have been available previously, and offer some conclusions as to their implications.

Intrathecal Cytosine Arabinoside In Hodgkin's Disease With Central Nervous System Manifestations, Ellis J. Van Slyck, Robert W. Talley
Intrathecal Cytosine Arabinoside In Hodgkin's Disease With Central Nervous System Manifestations, Ellis J. Van Slyck, Robert W. Talley
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
This report of the beneficial response in central nervous system (CNS) manifestations of a patient with Hodgkin's disease to the intrathecal administration of cytosine arabinoside suggests that this drug may have value in the treatment of CNS involvement by lymphoma and acute leukemia and of some brain tumors. Its use, for the first time via the intrathecal route in the present case, was well tolerated in two series of treatments.
Spontaneous Rupture Of The Esophagus: Report Of A Successfully Managed Case, Eduardo Arciniegas
Spontaneous Rupture Of The Esophagus: Report Of A Successfully Managed Case, Eduardo Arciniegas
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Spontaneous rupture of the esophagus should be suspected in any patient developing severe chest pain after vomiting. The diagnosis is substantiated by the presence of subcutaneous emphysema in the suprasternal region on physical examination and of mediastinal air on the plain chest roentgenogram. Further radiological confirmation may be obtained by oral administration of a watersoluble radio-opaque material. Immediate surgical repair of the esophageal tear is mandatory.

Art In Psychotherapy, Robert R. Schopbach
Art In Psychotherapy, Robert R. Schopbach
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Art is a tool too often neglected in psychotherapy. A careful study of a patient's drawings will provide information concerning diagnosis, dynamics, and progress. If, in addition, the patient explains and elaborates upon the content and symbolism, the drawings become excellent psychotherapeutic devices providing an entry into the patient's unconscious.

Infection In The Newborn Infant And Its Association With Prolonged Rupture Of The Amniotic Membranes, Philip J. Howard, A. Robert Bauer
