Six Situations D'Accidents Caractéristiques De L'Assemblage De Matériel Roulant, Lucie Laflamme, Patrice Duguay Jan 1994

Six Situations D'Accidents Caractéristiques De L'Assemblage De Matériel Roulant, Lucie Laflamme, Patrice Duguay

Étude Exploratoire Des Processus De Réinsertion Sociale Et Professionnelle Des Travailleurs En Réadaptation, Raymond Baril, Jean-Claude Martin, Claire Lapointe, Paul Massicotte

Otitis Media, Mastoiditis, And Infracranial Lesions In Two Plains Indian Children, Robert W. Mann, Douglas W. Owsley, Karl J. Reinhard Jan 1994

Otitis Media, Mastoiditis, And Infracranial Lesions In Two Plains Indian Children, Robert W. Mann, Douglas W. Owsley, Karl J. Reinhard

Karl Reinhard Publications

One disease condition that is common to nearly all children is otitis media, also known as middle ear disease. Although most people speak of it as a middle ear "infection," other causes such as neoplasm (tumor) can result in manifestations and symptoms mimicking an infectious process. This paper presents findings related to osseous lesions in two Indian children, approximately three to five years of age, who died with otitis media and infracranial lesions. Through macroscopic and radiographic analysis, it is possible to show that one child probably suffered from tuberculosis and the other from histiocytosis X. From an epidemiological and …

Most scholars are understandably preoccupied with the impact of Europeans on native peoples who were passive, unwilling, or resistant participants in that contact. We present in this chapter a different case. The Missouri River tribes, including the Omaha and Ponca, willingly engaged in relations with Euramericans, especially in the fur trade that dominated interaction in this region. The time frame for this study is 1780- 1820, a period when interaction between individual traders and Native Americans was replaced by the dominance of the American Fur Company in organized exploitation of the Missouri River lands and peoples. This involvement later contributed …

Securing Health Or Just Health Care? The Effect Of The Health Care System On The Health Of America, Lawrence O. Gostin Jan 1994

Securing Health Or Just Health Care? The Effect Of The Health Care System On The Health Of America, Lawrence O. Gostin

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

The author first analyzes why the prevention of illness and promotion of health provide the leading justification for the government to act for the welfare of the population. His analysis focuses principally on the foundational importance of health for human happiness, the exercise of rights and privileges, and the formation of family and social relationships. He explains why health care, although critically important; is not the only, nor even the most important, determinant of health. Most morbidity and mortality in the United States is attributable to environmental conditions, pathogens, and human behavior, which are all more responsive to population-based interventions …

The Effect Of Incentives On Employee Motivation For Renewed Participation In Worksite Health Promotion Programs, Donald Eugene Owens Jan 1994

The Effect Of Incentives On Employee Motivation For Renewed Participation In Worksite Health Promotion Programs, Donald Eugene Owens

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The purpose of this study was to describe (a) the incentives employees value strongly enough to become involved in a worksite fitness program, and (b) the incentives their employers offer to encourage involvement in a worksite fitness program. Specifically, the study was designed to answer the following questions: 1. What incentives would entice employees who had once exercised regularly but have discontinued exercising to become involved in a worksite fitness program? 2. What incentives are currently offered to employees at Principal Financial Group to become involved in the company's fitness program? An extensive review of related literature indicated that when …

Responsibilities Of Worksite Health Promotion Directors, Anne Bernice Mcgown Patneaude

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The purpose of this study was to identify the areas of responsibility that were perceived by worksite health promotion directors as most important to the success of their organization's health promotion program. A survey instrument was designed and mailed to 111 health promotion directors in the state of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin that were 1992 members of the Association of Fitness in Business (AFB). Subjects were asked to rate the importance that 27 responsibilities associated with four areas of competence receive within their organization. The results are based on the responses of 23 (20.72%) of these directors. Females represented 7 …
