As the costs of medical care continue to rise, c1t1zens demand the best possible hospital facilities even while demanding the most economical hospital management. To determine the extent to which hospital facilities have kept pace with needs and to comp;Jre facilities in Midcontinent metropolitan areas with national averages, three factors will be considered: a) the relation between an area's hospital facilities and its population, b) the occupancy rate of an area's hospital facilities and c) changes in these factors between 1971 and 1975. A Locality-Oriented Public Welfare Agency: A Case Study Of Boundary Maintenance In A Hostile Environment, Ray H. Macnair, Greta Hawthorne

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Boundary maintenance activities are studied in a public welfare agency as a means of establishing the relationship between the nature of these activities and the essential character of a formal organization. Assaults on the agency are observed through a period of social change, in this case an extreme of racial succession among the staff and administration of the agency. Conclusions point to congruence between the character of the organization and its boundary maintenance activity. Skewed or incongruent boundary maintenance produces disorganization and confusion among participants. Skills in discourse management are necessary in order for democratic policy development groups to be productive. These skills, like other skills, are developed by practicing their utilization. A general cognitive frnework, however, can assist one in this development. This paper develops and then describes the use of such a general framework.

The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

The first half of 1976 was a period of steady economic growth in Omaha. Among the strongest indicators of economic advancement are those in construction activity. The number of single-family building permits increased from 385 units during the first quarter of 1976 to 453 units during the second quarter of 1976. The 1976-77 operating budget of $78.9 million for the Omaha Public Schools represents an increase of $7.4 million from 1975-76. The current budget for the Westside Community Schools is $ 12.2 million, up $ 1.1 million from the past school year. This article attempts to provide a framework within which voters and public officials can examine the current operating budgets of Omaha Public and Westside Community Schools and more appropriately consider their implications.
