Philosophy And Purposes Of Distance Education, Dr. Janet K. Poley, Mr. Erik France Mar 1999

Philosophy And Purposes Of Distance Education, Dr. Janet K. Poley, Mr. Erik France

Nebraska Network 21: Publications

In considering how best to tackle this topic, I ultimately decided that in Nebraska the "best" approach is usually the "most straight forward" one. Given that much of the conversation about distance education is filled with myth and marketing hype, I decided what we could best contribute to the conversation would be the facts. While some of the other authors may have a better in-depth grasp of distance education opportunities and realities in Nebraska, Erik and I come as native Nebraskans with a good understanding of the history, economy, communities and cultures in our home state. My early faculty career …

The Policy Perspective In Distance Education: A Futures Landscape/Panorama, James W. King, Dara Lacy, John Mcmillian, Keith Bartels, Michelle Fredilino

Nebraska Network 21: Publications

This paper discusses distance education policy, specifically for Nebraska postsecondary institutions. Examples come from the Nebraska Community College System, Nebraska private colleges and universities, the Nebraska State College System, and the University of Nebraska system. While the pre-K to 12 educational system is not our objective, we will make some comments regarding linkages between them and the postsecondary institutions. 2 This draft paper includes a preliminary assessment of existing postsecondary distance education policies. We provide a general identification and analysis of policies and some initial conclusions and recommendations. Several useful tools for distance education policy development will be presented. We …

Diversion As A Work-Oriented Welfare Reform Strategy And Its Effect On Access To Medicaid: An Examination Of The Experiences Of Five Local Communities, Kathleen A. Maloy, Ladonna A. Pavetti, Julie S. Darnell, Peter Shin Mar 1999

Diversion As A Work-Oriented Welfare Reform Strategy And Its Effect On Access To Medicaid: An Examination Of The Experiences Of Five Local Communities, Kathleen A. Maloy, Ladonna A. Pavetti, Julie S. Darnell, Peter Shin

Center for Health Policy Research

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) ended the individual entitlement to welfare benefits and gave states new flexibility to emphasize work instead welfare. PRWORA also severed the traditional eligibility link between Medicaid and welfare. This research examined the emergence of diversion programs as a particular aspect of state welfare reform efforts and the potential for diversion programs to reduce access to Medicaid. In this second of two reports, we present the results of case studies in five states.

Child Labour: Is There A Competitive Advantage, Ramón A Ramos Arriagada, Cristina Castillo Gatica

IIMB Management Review

The Indian experience with Outbound Programmes has clearly been a mixed one. With the initial euphoria passing over, managements are beginning to wonder if management development is getting to be more and more like branded potato chips - puffed up and pricey but the same old stuff inside. Indeed there is every possibility of the Outbound Programme going the way of all other bandwagons: into the clearance sale shelves of the management supermarket. Padaki and Venkatesh attempt to demystify Outbound Programmes (OP) and provide guidelines to organisations contemplating OP, on how to prepare for a worthwhile OP experience, what to look for …

Chiefs For The Nation: Containing Ethnonationalism And Bridging The Ethnic Divide In Fiji, Robert Norton Mar 1999

Chiefs For The Nation: Containing Ethnonationalism And Bridging The Ethnic Divide In Fiji, Robert Norton

Pacific Studies

Chiefship, a central element of indigenous Fijian society valorized and transformed under colonial rule, is becoming a crucial part of a national political culture for multiethnic Fiji. The collective status and authority of chiefs in Fiji’s political life is grounded not simply in the part they have played in expressing opposition between indigenous Fijians and the descendants of the immigrant Indians, but also in a paradoxical function they have acquired in bridging ethnic conflict. This dual ethnic and national identity was affirmed and reinforced by their endorsement of the recent constitutional reform. This article suggests that in its capacity to …
