In 1958, geographic intelligence in the US Armed Forces was decentralized. US Army Corps of Engineers was primarily responsible for creation of military intelligence concerning the surface of the earth excluding the oceans and seas for the armed forces of the United States. The Beach Erosion Board, originally an agency performing civil functions, had been preparing coast and beach intelligence since early in World War II. Engineer intelligence guides were issued to provide guidance concerning collection, processing, production, and dissemination of geographic intelligence to elements of the Corps of Engineers.

This handbook includes pictures and brief descriptions of small arms, artillery, armored vehicles, aircraft, mines, and demolitions devices in use in Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordon, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. In addition, it includes aircraft markings and illustrations of uniforms and rank insignia. The descriptions of mines also include instructions for disarming them. Much attention was given to small arms, artillery, and armored vehicles, and little to aircraft.

Feudalism was the natural response to the greatest political need of the Dark Ages: security. Since there was no central government capable of providing this security, men fell back on their own resources, making local arrangements. Already, in the last chaotic centuries of imperial rule, Roman magnates had supported, and had been supported by, groups of clients. Among the Germanic tribes beyond the imperial frontiers, a roughly similar system of armed personal retainers had existed. The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

This scrapbook contains materials regarding the campaigns through North Africa and Italy. Also included are items related to his life in Affinity, WV prior to the war. There are post cards and photographs of Columbus, Ohio; Washington, DC; Baltimore, Maryland; Alexandria, Virginia; and Ireland.
