The survey of projects was initiated by Miss Kessler, who located sources pertaining to work-orientation in the junior high school, remedial programs for drop-outs, and programs in which language skills were taught in the context of teaching units and courses in occupations. A form was mailed to various cities to obtain curricula and reports on projects.

During the summer of 1968, the author read 200 articles, curricula and project reports in an effort to gain insights into objectives, activities and evaluations of work-orientation programs. The result of this survey will be reported in three sections: (1) concepts of work-orientation; (2) …

Economic Analysis Of Alternative Flood Control Measures, L. Douglas James, Thomas M. Rachford, James Ray Villines, Clyde R. Dempsey, James Norris Cline, Carlos Fix Miller

KWRRI Research Reports

Within the last few years, the growing realization that an effective flood control program must include non-structural measures (land use management and flood proofing) has resulted in Presidential Executive Order 11296 requiring Federal agencies to seek the optimum combination of structural and non-structural measures for flood control. The program began with college instructors holding Farmers' Institutes and schools and expanded into a state-wide system of agricultural and home extension work carried on by specially appointed county agents in each county.
