This directory contains instructions for using various telephone systems and calling long distance, a thorough organizational listing, a quick reference guide, an alphabetic list of employees, and a world time conversion chart. The organizational listing gives the lists each division and the branches within it and the heads of the divisions and branches with their phone numbers. The list of employees includes the person’s name, his or her office extension and home phone number, office symbol, and room number. If the person listed was not located in Charlottesville, the alphabetic list tells where they were.

Government Regulation And The Cost Of Housing, Murray L. Weidenbaum Dec 1977

Government Regulation And The Cost Of Housing, Murray L. Weidenbaum

Murray Weidenbaum Publications

One of the important factors in the rising prices in the housing market is the array of government regulations facing land developers, homebuilders, and financial institutions. Not all government regulation is bad, but the costs are often simply passed along to the consumer, essentially as a "hidden tax." This paper examines the various effects of housing regulation and outlines the procedures for change.

The Structure Of Employment In The Omaha Smsa: Estimates And Projections By Industry And Occupation, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar), Edward W. Hauswald

Publications

The structure of employment by industry and occupation in the Omaha Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) 1 has been changing. Trends in various industries and occupations in the Omaha SMSA do not, however, differ ·significantly from national trends. Agricultural employment is increasing in absolute numbers, but represents a declining proportion of the Omaha SMSA labor force, as is true for the nation. Similarly, employment in the manufacturing sector has become less and less important as a proportion of all employment. State and local government and retail trade employers have all had continued long term upward increases in employees, both in …

Habitat Use By Native Gambel' S And Scaled Quail And Released Masked Bobwhite Quail In Southern Arizona, John G. Goodwin Jr., C. Roger Hungerford Nov 1977

Habitat Use By Native Gambel' S And Scaled Quail And Released Masked Bobwhite Quail In Southern Arizona, John G. Goodwin Jr., C. Roger Hungerford

Galliformes Specialist Group and Affiliated Societies: Reports and Other Materials

Populations of both Gambel's and scaled quail surveyed in southern Arizona declined by 60% from October 1975 to June 1976. Masked bobwhite population density increased during the study because of additional releases, but survival patterns are uncertain. Raptors were efficient quail predators.

Gambel's quail were associated with a dense overstory of mesquite, hackberry, wolfberry, and catclaw. Understory species varied in density and appeared less essential to good habitat. Scaled quail preferred open, grass-shrub habitat, with few of the plants over 6 feet tall. Masked bobwhite selected dense, grass-weed habitat, with pigweed a characteristic species.

Green vegetation and insects were seasonally …

The Environmental Effects Of Uranium Exploration And Mining, Nicholas H. Tibbs, David L. Rath, Thomas K. Donovan

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

Uranium exploration and mining is increasing as the Nation's demand for energy grows. The environmental impacts associated with this exploration and mining are not severe and compare favorably with impacts from the production of other energy resources.

Current State-Of-The-Art Of Electrochemical Batteries From A Users Point Of View, John G. Wolter, John A. Gilbert, James V. Leonard

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

This paper will present a description of some of the battery types (couples) on the market, energy densities, and recycle lives. The possibility that some of these could be used in the transportation industry will be explored. Speculation of future battery development will be discussed.

Dissolution Of Kansas Evaporites, The Radioactive Waste Disposal Problem, Barbara J. Smith Oct 1977

Dissolution Of Kansas Evaporites, The Radioactive Waste Disposal Problem, Barbara J. Smith

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

The radioactive waste repository at Lyons, Kansas, focused attention on the problem of evaporite dissolution. More study is needed in the determination of the mechanisms responsible for deterioration. Also recent water use policies have been questioned with the need pointed out for increased effectiveness in planning. Good water planning has to take into account the role of evaporite dissolution in water quality.

Forest Residues As An Alternate Energy Source, John G. Riley, Norman Smith Oct 1977

Forest Residues As An Alternate Energy Source, John G. Riley, Norman Smith

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

Forest residues, in combination with more intensified timber production systems have potential as a substantial source of fuel wood. The extent and availability of this resource is discussed, with particular reference to the energetics and economics of existing and proposed harvesting systems. Utilization of residue wood fuels is considered and recent developments in small scale automatic wood chip burning heating systems for residential and commercial use are described.

The Impact Of A Continuing Energy Crisis: Changing Attitudes And Behaviors Regarding Thermostat Setback, John W. Frazier, Milton E. Harvey Oct 1977

The Impact Of A Continuing Energy Crisis: Changing Attitudes And Behaviors Regarding Thermostat Setback, John W. Frazier, Milton E. Harvey

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

A sample of Akron, Ohio SMSA households are utilized to examine thermostat setback as an energy conservation strategy. Socio-economic differences between adopting households are evaluated using discriminant analysis. The results constitute the bases on which our recommendations for future increased use of the thermostat setback strategy are made.

A Small Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Feeding Power Into The Utility Grid, G. C. Thomann, M. Jong, M. H. Snyder Oct 1977

A Small Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Feeding Power Into The Utility Grid, G. C. Thomann, M. Jong, M. H. Snyder

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

A small horizontal axis wind turbine, with about a 2 kW power output, was constructed to convert wind energy into AC power to be fed into the utility grid. The machine is intended to model operation of the larger wind generators now being built. The variable pitch rotor is 18 ft in diameter and has a GA(W)-1 blade airfoil. The rotor is fabricated from sitka spruce mounted on a commercial propeller/hub system. Rotor speeds of from 75 to 150 rpm are used in operation. A chain drive and helical gear drive system steps up rotor speed to 1800 - 3600 …

Some Financial Implications Of Divestiture Legislation, John Griffith, Jack W. Waldrip Oct 1977

Some Financial Implications Of Divestiture Legislation, John Griffith, Jack W. Waldrip

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

Those critical of divestiture legislation emphasize both the relative lack of concentration and the advantages of grouping the development of two or more energy materials under the management of one corporate business. Many of these arguments are extremely difficult to evaluate without harder evidence than appears to be available at present. This paper purports to deal with some of the financial and legal consequences of different possible methods of accomplishing divestiture.

Volunteers In Energy Conservation -- Potential And Problems, Clayton L. Smith Oct 1977

Volunteers In Energy Conservation -- Potential And Problems, Clayton L. Smith

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

The social and political implications of the energy crisis, while complex in nature and understanding, seem to urgently proclaim that the time for action is now. This paper is based on the premise that individual responsibility is essential. The people must act. Political decisions must be made. The people must debate what social climates are to be promoted and by what new energy systems. The key to solving the energy crisis is America's people, and particularly with its youth. With people come the potential and of course, the problems. The approach of this paper will be threefold.
