This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Community Development Needs in Rural Nebraska: An Analysis of Preapplication for HUD Community Development Funds," by Thomas Moss and Michael O'Connor.
Many small communities in rural Nebraska are faced with a wide variety of community needs and an inadequate source of funds with which to meet these needs. The history of the Sanitary Improvement District (SID) in Nebraska is closely tied to the history of urban development in the Omaha Metropolitan Area. The end of World War II freed the pent-up demand for new dwelling units in Nebraska as well as in the rest of the nation. Omaha's stock of platted lots was rapidly used up in the late 40's and pressures were great for opening up new areas. To meet the demand, new dwellings began to spring up on the fringes of the City, but altogether too many of these were served only by wells and septic …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Taxing Services i Nebraska - A Revenue Forecast," by H. Wade German.
With the demand for state and local government services increasing at a rate greater than most present tax structures can accommodate, either additional resources must be shifted from the private to the public sector or public services must approach an upper bound. The recent statements from Mayor Zorinsky and Governor Exon highlight the potential fiscal difficulties in Nebraska.

Suburbocentrics Leave Behind Concerns For City, Chester Smolski
Smolski Texts
"The column written by Jean Slaughter Doty for this page, "Love Suburbia or Leave It Alone," recently was beautiful. Mrs. Doty, author, housewife and mother in a Connecticut suburb, aptly described the problem of groth, both planned but more commonly unplanned, that has taken place in American suburbs and which has too often destroyed the advantages these places initially offered."

University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
This was our first involvement with research in the National Parks and we would like to make some observations concerning interactions among basic researchers, park personnel, and the philosophy on which our park systems are based. Our conclusions are not based only on our own experiences, but also on conversations with other basic researchers (especially those who contributed to this symposium) and with park personnel who have aided and worked with other researchers who were not employed by the National Park Service.

Crimes & Illness: The Psychological & Criminal Defects Derived From The Architectural & Spatial Design In Public Housing Projects, David Preece
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The architectural and spatial design and two public housing projects, Brownsville and Van Dyke, located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York, were tested to determine their effects upon the crime rates and mental illness. While keeping the socio-economic factors under limited control, a data comparison approach was used to illuminate any difference in the crime and mental illness rates between the two projects. A significant difference in the crime rates was noticed between them with the Van Dyke Houses having a higher crime rate. Since Van Dyke also had a significantly higher percentage of mental illness than compared …
