Autonomic Responses Of Normals And Depressives To Stress Inducing Stimuli, Dennis Donat
Autonomic Responses Of Normals And Depressives To Stress Inducing Stimuli, Dennis Donat
Theses and Dissertations
A group of depressed (N=10) and a group of normal (N=10) were presented a series of stressor stimuli to assess several parameters of their physiological responses to these stimuli. The results indicated that the groups did not differ in their relative tendency to show maximal response specificity (consistently responding to stress with a maximum response in the same channel) or pattern stereotypy (the tendency to respond consistently in all physiological channels relative to each other). A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), of the levels of the physiological channels under conditions of rest, anticipation, and stress revealed a significant group effect. …
Cerebral Asymmetries In Human Colour Perception, Zoe L. Hayes
Cerebral Asymmetries In Human Colour Perception, Zoe L. Hayes
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Two experiments were designed in order to explore hemisphere asymmetries in both the identification and discrimination of colour. Extensive predictions were made based on the assumption that manual responses are controlled from the contralateral hemisphere and speech from the left hemisphere. The results of both experiments were inconclusive. Discussion centred around possible reasons for the limited effects and the design of future research.
Residential Stress: An Application Of A Comprehensive Stress Model, Graham Arthur Draper
Residential Stress: An Application Of A Comprehensive Stress Model, Graham Arthur Draper
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This study identifies a need for an overall conceptual framework for viewing residential mobility and proposes that a stress-response model supplies that need. A proposed model tries to incorporate all the various existing notions of stress in one basic model. It provides for a wide variety of human experiences and responses, attempts to explain the stress condition, and provides a basis for future research in a variety of problem areas. The model is tested, and found to be satisfactory with a sample of high-rise apartment dwellers who moved within London, Ontario.
Androgyny And Attribution: Effects Of Sex Role Adoption, Sex-Linkage Of Task, And Outcome On Causal Attributions For Success And Failure, Vally M. Sharpe
Androgyny And Attribution: Effects Of Sex Role Adoption, Sex-Linkage Of Task, And Outcome On Causal Attributions For Success And Failure, Vally M. Sharpe
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations (1964–2006)
Thirty androgynous females, 30 androgynous males, 30 feminine females, and 30 masculine males participated at either a masculine-linked task (wiring a telephone), a feminine-linked task (doing needlepoint), or a neutral task (doing anagrams). Half of the subjects were given success feedback; half were given failure feedback. Each subject, after receiving feedback, completed a post-task questionnaire from which causal attribution ratings for four factors: ability, effort, task difficulty, and luck, were obtained. Scores were analyzed by means of 4x3x2 multivariate analyses of variance."Success" subjects attributed success to ability (F=18.007, df=1/96, p
The Relationship Of Cognitive Style To Performance On A Nonverbal Intelligence Test And An Achievement Test Among Anglos And Differentially Acculturated Mexican-Americans, Ricardo R. Gonzales
The Relationship Of Cognitive Style To Performance On A Nonverbal Intelligence Test And An Achievement Test Among Anglos And Differentially Acculturated Mexican-Americans, Ricardo R. Gonzales
Psychology ETDs
The relationship of analytic and nonanalytic cognitive style to performance on a nonverbal intelligence test (Culture Fair Intelligence Test) and an achievement test (ACT verbal score), was investigated using Anglo and differentially acculturated Mexican-American college students. Subjects between ages 17-35 completed a cognitive style measure, the Kahn Test of Symbol Arrangement. The test·categorizes response patterns of subjects according to several levels of analytic abstraction. Cattell's nonverbal Culture Fair Intelligence Test and ACT composite scores served as the measures of nonverbal intelligence and verbal achievement respectively. The Multidimensional Scale of Cultural Difference, which taps sociocultural characteristics, served to differentiate between Mexican-Americans. …
A Construct Validity Study For The Women Workers Scale Questionnaire, Gwen Simpson
A Construct Validity Study For The Women Workers Scale Questionnaire, Gwen Simpson
Dissertations and Theses
This study attempted to obtain evidence on the construct validity of the Women Workers Scale (WWS), an attitude scale developed to measure male supervisors' attitudes toward women workers. As women enter the work world in increasing numbers, they are usually supervised by men. However, few studies have examined the attitudes of male supervisors toward women workers. At least one author (Bass, 1972) reported that there were significant differences among male managers in their attitudes toward women. Specifically, those male managers who had not worked with women held more favorable attitudes than male managers who had worked with women.
Adjustment To Psycho-Social Stress, John William Carnes
Adjustment To Psycho-Social Stress, John William Carnes
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between adjustment to life-event stressors and selected psycho-social variables. Recent research has consistently identified an etiological link between stressful life-events and physical and/or emotional disorders. It has often been noted, however, that exposure to seemingly identical stressors results in varying levels of adjustment among individuals. Lazarus (1966, 1967, 1971, 1974) has proposed that variations in stress responses are attributable to differences relative to the implicated individual's appraised threat from the stressor. Based on this conceptualization, adjustment to stressful life-events was selected as the dependent variable for the study. Five independent …
An Examination Of Scholarly Perspective, Religiosity And Factors Which Lead To Religious Change, Paul Fehrmann
An Examination Of Scholarly Perspective, Religiosity And Factors Which Lead To Religious Change, Paul Fehrmann
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
As a replication and expansion of work done by Alsdurf (1977), the relations between religiosity, commitment to scholarly openness and reasons for religious change were examined through a survey of 146 students attending a South-central university. A discussion of logical and empirical studies was presented to help clarify the theses under examination, and it was maintained that this study was primarily concerned with empirical relationships. A negative correlation was obtained between scholarly openness and religiosity for the total population studied, but the correlation was weak. In contrast to expectations, a significant negative correlation between scholarly openness and religiosity was not …
An Exploration Of Change In Teacher Concerns Over Time, Sharla E. Hutchinson
An Exploration Of Change In Teacher Concerns Over Time, Sharla E. Hutchinson
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to reconsider the five factor structure of the Teach Concern Checklist (TCC) currently being utilized by the teacher Preparation Evaluation Program (TPEP) at Western Kentucky University. The problem was to replicate the three factor solution of the TCC proposed by George (1978) and to further explore the progression of teacher concerns with experience to lend support to the self-task-impact concern theory proposed by Fuller (1969)
Two hundred and sixty-five pre-service and in-service teacher participating in TPRP completed the TCC. These teachers represented the different experience levels of student. First, third and fifth year of …
