Factors Related To Superior Achievement In Grade Six, Roberta Delores Brooks

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Individual differences and group differences in scholastic performance are increasingly important areas of concern in classroom teaching, school guidance, psychological counseling, as well as in parent-student educational and vocational planning. American College Test Scores As Predictors Of College Success, Clinton W. Chapman Ii

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The prediction of academic success in institutions of higher learning is an important problem for those persons concerned with admission requirements and placement programs. Predictions of academic success also facilitate readmission procedures and are useful to counselors working with college or prospective college students.

At Marshall University, the American College Test (ACT) has been used as a measure of academic success. The test was developed to make procedures of admissions, guidance, placement and scholarship appointments more efficient. The American College Test battery consists of four tests: English Usage Test, Mathematics Usage Test, Social Studies Reading Test, and Natural Sciences Reading …

Schedules Of Reinforcement With Intracranial Simulation, Randall K. Flory '64 Jan 1964

Schedules Of Reinforcement With Intracranial Simulation, Randall K. Flory '64

Honors Projects

Mixed and multiple aperiodic and ratio schedules of reinforcement were maintained by rats which had stainless steel electrodes surgically implanted in specific areas of their midbrains. The "reinforcing" stimulus used was a 100-cycle biphasic, square wave of a one-second duration. The voltage ranged from 1.0 to 2.0 volts and the current from .10 to .50 milliamperes. Four subjects (S's) were used in the study. Three of the S's received electrical brain stimulation (EBS) and the fourth received food pellets as reinforcement. Only the latter "food control" animal ,was run on a 36-hour food deprivation schedule. All other subjects were not …

A Study Of Boy Scout And Aaronic Priesthood Activity (Boys Age Twelve To Fourteen) In Selected Lds Wards, Orval Leonard Nelson

Theses and Dissertations

This study had two main purposes. Its first is to test the theoretical proposition that there is a carry-over into other systems of behavior as a result of group cohesion. For example, as scouting activities increased, Aaronic Priesthood activities increased. And according to the reference group theory, individuals join reference groups to fulfill certain needs, wants, goals, etc. In an active Boy Scout program many of these needs, wants, and goals are satisfied as the boys participate in the activities outlined by the Boy Scouts of America. Furthermore, once these needs are satisfied, change toward conformity tends to carry over …

Reliability Of Measurements Of Level Of Intellectual Functioning Of Geriatric Patients, Janet Aline Baker Jan 1964

Reliability Of Measurements Of Level Of Intellectual Functioning Of Geriatric Patients, Janet Aline Baker

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to measure geriatric patients’ levels of intellectual functioning in order to determine the reliability of several specific test instruments. From the battery of measurements used in the study, it was an additional objective to recommend which of these test instruments, or combination thereof, would be most applicable for geriatric patients, based on the empirical findings of this study.

Level of intellectual functioning may certainly be influenced by many factors. Therefore, it was part of this study to measure and control for the effects of the following variable: sex, age, education, and medication.
