The Liberal Democratic Party Of Japan: Its Organization And Decision Making Process, Hiroyuki Ikeba

Masters Theses

This study analyzes the behavior of the politicians of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) and the decision making process of the LDP. This study draws heavily on Japanese language sources as well as interviews with leading Japanese Diet persons.

The characteristics of Japanese culture are explained by introducing the works of three scholars. They are: Ruth Benedict, Chie Nakane, and Takeo Doi. It was discovered that the relationships among LDP Diet persons and between supporters and Diet persons are based on traditional societal norms. Since the Opium Wars of the 1840s, the West has become a major ingredient in this harmony - the Four Modernizations Campaign.

This study examines the influence of United States/Soviet relations on network news coverage of Eastern Europe. It also measures the ideological character of network news reports about Eastern Europe or how television news in the United States is constructed along a particular ideological vision. The specific operational questions researched are: Is network news content influenced by trends in United States/Soviet relations? How is the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union reflected in the ideological presentation of the news? Samples of CBS nightly news programs were analyzed for quantitative and qualitative changes in news content over time. Analysis …

Political Activities Of Professional Social Workers Residing In Portland, Oregon, Connie May Henes

Dissertations and Theses

In order to assess political activity levels of Portland social workers, thirty Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) social workers were interviewed according to a structured questionnaire. The members of the sample were selected from National Association of Social Workers, Oregon Chapter membership and from selected public social service agencies.

The results showed, in comparison to previous research findings of Lester Milbrath and Julian Woodward, that Portland social workers are more politically active and knowledgeable than hypothesized. Portland social workers were found to be largely Democrats. The most politically active social workers were found to be those who are employed in …
