New Quantum Genetic Algorithm Based On Constrained Quantum Optimization, Mohammed R. Almasaoodi, Abdulbasit M. A. Sabaawi, Sara El Gaily, Sándor Imre

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

In the past decades, many quantum algorithms have been developed. The main obstacle that prevents the widespread implementation of these algorithms is the small size of the available quantum computer in terms of qubits. Blind Quantum Computation (BQC) holds the promise of handling this issue by delegating computation to quantum remote devices. Here, we introduce a novel Constrained Quantum Genetic Algorithm (CQGA) that selects the optimum extreme (minimum or maximum) value of a constrained goal function (or a vast unsorted database) with very low computational complexity. Since the convergence speed to the optimal solution for the Constrained Classical Genetic Algorithm …

Observation Of Τ Lepton Pair Production In Ultraperipheral Pb-Pb Collisions At √SNn=5.02 Tev, A. Tumasyan

Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications

We present an observation of photon-photon production of τ lepton pairs in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions. The measurement is based on a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 404 μb−1 collected by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √sNN = 5.02 TeV. The γγ → τ+τ− process is observed for τ+τ− events with a muon and three charged hadrons in the final state. The measured fiducial cross section is σ(γγ → τ+τ-) = 4.8 ± 0.6(stat) ± 0.5(syst) μb, where the second …

Recent Advances In Crispr/Cas9-Assisted Gene Therapy, Apeksha Srivastava, Shikha Chauhan, Vishal Ahuja

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

CRISPR/Cas9 (Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) is an exponentially growing tool with wide-spread applications in therapeutics like gene modifications that focus on altering the hereditary material to repair or eliminate any defective gene-causing diseases like cancer, AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), etc. It also includes the identification of the target sequence with the help of sgRNA followed by the substitution of a malfunction-ing gene with a normal version. It offers high efficiency, specificity, and post-gene-editing efficacy, but have also some off-target impressions, and immunogenic effects. The contribution of CRISPR/Cas9 has already been proved primarily in in-vitro studies using animal germ …

Estimation Of Water Quality Of Dikhu River Of Nagaland Through A Combination Of Water Quality Index And Principal Component Analysis Techniques., Lanuyanger Longchar, Wati Temjen, Khikeya Semy, Wati Lemla

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Monitoring the physico-chemical attributes of water is essential for determining water quality. The present study explores the effect of various anthropogenic factors on the quality of Dikhu River, Nagaland. Water samples from three sampling stations were compared against three standards: Indian Council of Medical Research, Bureau of Indian Standards, and World Health Organization. Although all parameters were within the permissible limits, the Water Quality Index categorized all sites during the rainy season as "poor quality", highlighting anthropogenic impacts. A principal component analysis created a Minimum Data Set (MDS) explaining 100%, 93.27%, and 96.26% of the total variance for the three …

Dyadosphere Space-Time Of A Charged Black Hole In The Rainbow Gravity And Energy Distribution, Oktay Aydogdu, Mustafa Salti

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

One is prompted to examine an energy-dependent space-time with significant distortion of standard general relativity through a breach of the Lorentz invariance in high-energy quantum gravity. The present study explores how the energy of a test particle influences the energy density of a charged black hole in the framework of rainbow gravity. In this context, the focus is on investigating the dyadosphere of the black hole, where the space-time fabric is influenced by the energy of the test particle. We also employ graphical analysis to visually illustrate the variations in the black hole’s energy density defined within the framework of …

Scaling Isolated-Attosecond-Pulse Duration By Controlling A Trajectory Parameter, Dian Peng, Jean Marcel Ngoko Djiokap Oct 2023

Scaling Isolated-Attosecond-Pulse Duration By Controlling A Trajectory Parameter, Dian Peng, Jean Marcel Ngoko Djiokap

Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications

Reaching an ever shorter duration of isolated attosecond pulses (IAPs) is an ongoing mission in attosecond science. Wide usage of long-wavelength driving lasers has greatly broadened bandwidths for generating IAPs. We propose a strategy to further exploit the ability of a long-wavelength laser in producing short IAPs. We introduce a scaling relationship between IAP duration and a trajectory parameter that is associated with the classical cutoff trajectory of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in gases. This trajectory parameter can facilitate in shortening IAP duration by shaping laser waveform. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods with calculations of HHG from Ne …

Attachment of bacteria onto a surface, consequent signaling, and accumulation and growth of the surface-bound bacterial population are key initial steps in the formation of pathogenic biofilms. While recent reports have hinted that surface mechanics may affect the accumulation of bacteria on that surface, the processes that underlie bacterial perception of surface mechanics and modulation of accumulation in response to surface mechanics remain largely unknown. We use thin and thick hydrogels coated on glass to create composite materials with different mechanics (higher elasticity for thin composites; lower elasticity for thick composites) but with the same surface adhesivity and chemistry. The …

We present a search for extremely red, dust-obscured, z > 7 galaxies with JWST/NIRCam+MIRI imaging over the first 20 arcmin2 of publicly available Cycle 1 data from the COSMOS-Web, CEERS, and PRIMER surveys. Based on their red color in F277W−F444W (∼2.5 mag) and detection in MIRI/F770W (∼25 mag), we identify two galaxies, COS-z8M1 and CEERS-z7M1, that have best-fit photometric redshifts of z = 8.4 − 0.4 + 0.3 and 7.6 − 0.1 + 0.1 , respectively. We perform spectral energy distribution fitting with a variety of codes (including bagpipes, prospector, beagle, and cigale) and find a >95% probability that these …

Analysis Of The Crab Nebula And Pulsar, Alexander Bittle, Ian Kuhl, Jingze (Justin) Zhou, Avery Archer

Annual Student Research Poster Session

Although the Crab Nebula is well understood, the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS) still regularly observes the Crab's highest energy emissions. These emissions are used to calibrate the telescopes, further, document the system, and investigate the validity of physical models. Our research this summer is geared to analyze data from 2018-2022 to add to an ongoing research project investigating the long term variability of the Crab Nebula’s emission.

Fast And Slow Microphysics Regimes In A Minimalist Model Of Cloudy Rayleigh-Bénard Convection, Raymond A. Shaw, Subin Thomas, Prasanth Prabhakaran, Will Cantrell, Mikhail Ovchinnikov, Fan Yang Oct 2023

Fast And Slow Microphysics Regimes In A Minimalist Model Of Cloudy Rayleigh-Bénard Convection, Raymond A. Shaw, Subin Thomas, Prasanth Prabhakaran, Will Cantrell, Mikhail Ovchinnikov, Fan Yang

Michigan Tech Publications

A minimalist model of microphysical properties in cloudy Rayleigh-Bénard convection is developed based on mass and number balances for cloud droplets growing by vapor condensation. The model is relevant to a turbulent mixed-layer in which a steady forcing of supersaturation can be defined, e.g., a model of the cloudy boundary layer or a convection-cloud chamber. The model assumes steady injection of aerosol particles that are activated to form cloud droplets, and the removal of cloud droplets through sedimentation. Simplifying assumptions include the consideration of mean properties in steady state, neglect of coalescence growth, and no detailed representation of the droplet …

Gaxin2-Xo3 Surface Pyramids Interaction With Formaldehyde: Thermodynamic And Sensing Analysis, Mudar Ahmed Abdulsattar

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

GaxIn2-xO3 surface pyramids' electronic structures are investigated using density functional theory, including dispersion corrections. Application of GaxIn2-xO3 surface pyramids as a gas sensor for formaldehyde is also performed and compared with experimental findings. These findings show that the energy gap of these pyramids follows closely with the bulk values. The energy gap increases between the two limits, In2O3 and Ga2O3. Applying GaxIn2-xO3 surface pyramids as a gas sensor uses transition state theory formalism. Thermodynamic quantities such as activation Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy are needed for temperature-dependent calculations. A comparison of sensor response which is proportional to reaction rate as …

A Portable And Low-Cost Incubator System Enabling Real-Time Cell Imaging Based On A Smartphone, Ari̇f Engi̇n Çeti̇n

Turkish Journal of Physics

Incubators serve as essential tools for maintaining optimal temperature, humidity, and atmospheric gas composition for cell cultures. Their applications span across various fields like cell biology, microbiology, and molecular biology. However, in many cell-based studies, observing cellular changes often necessitates moving cells out of the incubator for microscope examination. Unfortunately, exposing cells to an environment that does not support healthy growth can undermine the reliability of test outcomes. In this article, we present a groundbreaking solution: a cost-effective, portable incubator system seamlessly integrated with a smartphone for real-time characterization tests. This innovation offers comparable imaging capabilities and maintains an environment …

Electrode Effect On Ferroelectricity In Free-Standing Membranes Of Pbzr0.2Ti0.8O3, Qiuchen Wu, Kun Wang, Alyssa Simpson, Yifei Hao, Jia Wang, Dawei Li, Xia Hong

Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications

We report the effects of screening capacity, surface roughness, and interfacial epitaxy of the bottom electrodes on the polarization switching, domain wall (DW) roughness, and ferroelectric Curie temperature (TC) of PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (PZT)- based free-standing membranes. Singe crystalline 10−50 nm (001) PZT and PZT/La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) membranes are prepared on Au, correlated oxide LSMO, and two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor MoS2 base layers. Switching the polarization of PZT yields nonvolatile current modulation in the MoS2 channel at room temperature, with an on/off ratio of up to 2 × 105 …

Fermion Pair Radiation From Accelerating Classical Systems, Margarita Gavrilova, Mitrajyoti Ghosh, Yuval Grossman, Walter Tangarife, Tien-Hsueh Tsai

Physics: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Accelerating classical systems that couple to a fermion-antifermion pair at the microscopic level can radiate pairs of fermions and lose energy in the process. In this work, we derive the generalization of the Larmor formula for fermion pair radiation. We focus on the case of a point-like classical source in an elliptical orbit that emits fermions through vector and scalar mediators. Ultra-light fermion emission from such systems becomes relevant when the mass of the mediator is larger than the frequency of the periodic motion. This enables us to probe regions of the parameter space that are inaccessible in on-shell bosonic …

Raman Spectral Cytopathology For Cancer Diagnostic Applications, Fiona Lyng, Damian Traynor, Isha Behl, Declan O'Dea, Hugh Byrne Oct 2023

Raman Spectral Cytopathology For Cancer Diagnostic Applications, Fiona Lyng, Damian Traynor, Isha Behl, Declan O'Dea, Hugh Byrne

Books/Book Chapters

Histopathology is currently regarded as the “gold standard” patient sampling technique for cancer diagnostics. It involves extraction of a tissue sample, or biopsy, which is then sectioned and stained for evaluation by a pathologist [1]. Cytopathology, on the other hand, is the field of disease diagnosis at the cellular level [2], necessitating only the microscopic evaluation of samples of cells which can be harvested by less invasive methods such as exfoliative brushing, needle probes or from biofluids. Based on the identification of abnormalities in cellular appearance, cytopathology is currently widely used to aid in the screening of cancer, as well …

Physics

We present Chandra X-ray Observatory observations and Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph spectra of NGC 5972, one of the 19 ‘Voorwerpjes’ galaxies. This galaxy contains an extended emission-line region (EELR) and an arcsecond scale nuclear bubble. NGC 5972 is a faded active galactic nucleus (AGN), with EELR luminosity suggesting a 2.1 dex decrease in Lbol in the last ∼5 ×104 yr. We investigate the role of AGN feedback in exciting the EELR and bubble given the long-term variability and potential accretion state changes. We detect broad-band (0.3–8 keV) X-ray emission in the near-nuclear regions, coincident with the [O III …

Michigan Tech Publications

Operating since 2004, the Pierre Auger Observatory has led to major advances in our understanding of the ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. The latest findings have revealed new insights that led to the upgrade of the Observatory, with the primary goal of obtaining information on the primary mass of the most energetic cosmic rays on a shower-by-shower basis. In the framework of the upgrade, called AugerPrime, the 1660 water-Cherenkov detectors of the surface array are equipped with plastic scintillators and radio antennas, allowing us to enhance the composition sensitivity. To accommodate new detectors and to increase experimental capabilities, the electronics is also …
