Fixed Perimeter Analogues Of Some Partition Results, Gabriel Gray, Emily Payne, Holly Swisher, Ren Watson
Fixed Perimeter Analogues Of Some Partition Results, Gabriel Gray, Emily Payne, Holly Swisher, Ren Watson
School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications
Euler's partition identity states that the number of partitions of n into odd parts is equal to the number of partitions of n into distinct parts. Strikingly, Straub proved in 2016 that this identity also holds when counting partitions of any size with largest hook length (perimeter) n. This has inspired further investigation of partition identities and inequalities in the fixed perimeter setting. Here, we explore fixed perimeter analogues of some well-known partition results inspired by Euler's partition identity.
Fractsynth: Exploring Glitch Timbres With Chaos Theory, Aidan Roach
Fractsynth: Exploring Glitch Timbres With Chaos Theory, Aidan Roach
The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal
In this paper, I explore how chaos theory can be used to design a new kind of synthesizer with the primary focus of producing glitchy, unpredictable sounds. Glitch music embraces abstract sound design, malfunctioning electronics, and randomness as the main compositional elements. However, most synthesizers rely on stable, repetitive oscillators that often sound too controlled. To challenge this, I developed FractSynth, a real-time synthesizer that uses chaotic attractors–including the Logistic Map, Henon Map, and Lorenz System–as modulation sources for frequency, amplitude, and tone. The software also features real-time Lyapunov Exponent Tracking, which gives users a direct visual of how …
From Vibration To Visualization: Building An Real-Time Audio Visualization System For Learning And Exploration Using Pyqt5, Aidan Roach
The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal
This paper presents the design, development, and analysis of my real-time audio visualization system created entirely in Python using PyQt5, called WaveCatcher. The system captures live audio input from a microphone and provides simultaneous visual feedback through multiple signal representations: including a time-domain waveform, a frequency-domain FFT spectrum, a scrolling spectrogram, harmonic peak visualization, dynamic range, amplitude envelope, spectral centroid, and spectral bandwidth. These features offer insight not just into the raw structure of sound, but into how humans perceive its qualities–like timbre! This terminology may seem intimidating—it certainly was when I first began learning it—but I’ll explain all of …
Interactions Of Dance And Mathematics: A Closer Look At Mathematical Sequences As Scores For Choreography From A Choreographic Lens, Caroline Wolfe
Interactions Of Dance And Mathematics: A Closer Look At Mathematical Sequences As Scores For Choreography From A Choreographic Lens, Caroline Wolfe
The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal
This paper investigates the embodiment of infinite mathematical sequences through concert contemporary dance, examining how choreography can serve both as an artistic and analytical tool for exploring numerical patterns. Grounded in interdisciplinary literature on mathematical visualization in choreography, the study centers on two original choreographic works presented and performed at Missouri State University: Golden Ratio Sequence (Spring 2025), which maps the Fibonacci sequence and the natural applications of the Golden Ratio onto a spiral floor pattern, and Tetrahedral Numbers (Fall 2024), which employs an accumulation score to embody three-dimensional number growth through layered movement motifs and body created tetrahedra. The …

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) into health care holds the potential to revolutionize patient care by enhancing clinical decision-making, improving diagnostic accuracy, and reducing costs. Despite this promise, adoption remains limited due to a range of technical, regulatory, educational, and cultural barriers. This paper examines these challenges and proposes strategies to support safe and effective implementation of AI in clinical practice.
Key barriers include the lack of model interpretability, often referred to as the "black box" problem, which undermines clinician trust and accountability in clinical settings, evolving regulatory frameworks and unresolved questions surrounding liability, and …

Empowering Sustainable Household Waste Management Through Rubbin: App-Based Transactions Using Google Maps Api And Qr Code Recognition, H.A. Danang Rimbawa, Muhammad Abditya Arghanie, Muhammad Rey Renoult, Dea Dwi Ananda
Smart City
The Digitization of environmentally friendly technology must be applied to advance smart cities. Waste management carried out conventionally often causes irregularities in the classification data collection, difficulties in accessing information related to garbage collection schedules, and a lack of transaction history information, which causes a decrease in the quality of waste collection. The development of functional application features is urgently needed as a container for proper waste management. The Rubbin App has been created, which implements Google Maps API for route optimization and waste mapping, QR code recognition using Enhanced Adaptive Median Filter, and private chat for clients and collectors …
Dementia Detection In Low-Resource Languages: Evaluating Translation-Assisted Transfer Learning For Multilingual Clinical Assessment, Kylar A. Deloach
Dementia Detection In Low-Resource Languages: Evaluating Translation-Assisted Transfer Learning For Multilingual Clinical Assessment, Kylar A. Deloach
Honors Theses
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a growing global health concern, with millions of people affected worldwide and cases expected to rise significantly in the coming decades. Early detection is critical for patient treatment and care, and recent advances in natural language processing (NLP) have shown promise in identifying linguistic markers associated with AD. However, most existing work has focused on English, leaving speakers of other languages with limited access to such tools. This study investigates how effective AD detection models trained on English data are at transferring to Greek, a low-resource language with limited dementia-related speech data available. We propose a …

Physical Properties Of Aqueous Aerosols In The Presence Of Oxalic Acid, Felicia Lutz
Physical Properties Of Aqueous Aerosols In The Presence Of Oxalic Acid, Felicia Lutz
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Different compounds in atmospheric aerosols absorb water (deliquesce) and release water (effloresce) at different levels of humidity. This can affect the chemistry of atmospheric aerosols as well as the formation of clouds and movement of water vapor in the sky. While there has been previous research on deliquescence of salts, the results of compounds mixed with organics are of more interest as the composition of aerosols are better understood. Organics can impact other physical properties of liquid aerosols like surface tension. In this research, the deliquescence relative humidity, efflorescence relative humidity and surface tension was determined for common salts found …

Getting Your Master's, Is It Worth It?, Vy Le, Madyson Schreifels
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
This project uses a differential equation model to evaluate whether earning a master’s degree is financially worthwhile. Using UC Berkeley’s Master of Computer Science program as a case study, we modeled student loan repayment and compared long-term earnings between bachelor’s and master’s degree holders. The model predicts monthly loan payments and estimates the break-even point where the higher salary from the master’s degree outweighs the total investment cost. Results suggest that the degree becomes financially beneficial after approximately 15 years.
Supercritical Fluid Extractions Of Organic Compounds For Chemistry 202 Laboratory, Avery Polipnick, Autumn Larson
Supercritical Fluid Extractions Of Organic Compounds For Chemistry 202 Laboratory, Avery Polipnick, Autumn Larson
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Supercritical fluid extractions are a green chemistry technique that is used to isolate nonpolar compounds, without the use of solvents that are harmful to the environment. Compounds reach their supercritical point which is found above their critical temperature and pressure causing them to be in a state between liquid and gas phases. Carbon dioxide in its supercritical fluid form acts as a solvent. This study investigates how a supercritical carbon dioxide extraction can be incorporated into the Chemistry 202 Laboratory curriculum at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. Initial conditions for this extraction were previously determined. The …

Climate Change-Related Effects On Carbon Emissions And Net Ammonification Across Lowland To Upland Soils From A High-Latitude Coastal Ecosystem, Jenna M. Ross, Karen H. Beard, Katharine C. Kelsey, Matteo Petit Bon, A. Joshua Leffler
Wildland Resources Faculty Publications
Warming, sea-level rise, and changing herbivory patterns are affecting ecosystem processes in northern coastal soils, including carbon and nitrogen cycling, although their combined effects are poorly understood. We studied the impact of these changes in a full-factorial microcosm experiment using four distinct soil types from the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta of western Alaska. Soil was collected from three coastal wetlands, which differ in flooding frequency and use by migratory geese, and one rarely-flooded upland tundra used by geese in late summer. Microcosms containing these soils were incubated for 16 weeks at 10°C or 18°C, with or without three short-term floods, and with …
