The radiations of Pd¹⁰⁹ (13.45 ± 0.01 hr) and Pd^109m(4.69 ± 0.01 min) have been investigated with a coincidence scintillation spectrometer and a solenoidal beta-ray spectrometer. Pd^109m was observed to have only one mode of decay: a 188-kev (E3) isomeric transition to Pd¹⁰⁹. The principal beta-ray group (>99.9%) of Pd¹⁰⁹ was found to have an end-point energy of 1.025 ± 0.005 Mev. Gamma rays of the following energies (kev) and approximate intensities (photons/10⁵ disintegrations) were observed to acccmpany the decay of Pd¹⁰⁹: 773 (4), 707 (2), 643 (10), 602 …

The first of these has immediate application to analysis of air shower data which is presently being gathered by two large scintillation tanks located immediately behind the University of New Mexico physics building. The problem with which this investigation is concerned was to construct suitable apparatus to measure accurately the shape and the duration of a pulse of δ-radiation of approximately 10 Mev energy and 20 mμ sec duration. In particular, the shape of the tail of the pulse had to be determined as accurately as possible, so that millimicrosecond half lives can be measured accurately with the betatron.

Magnetic field variations in both magnitude and direction are known to occur due to such phenomena as atmospheric tides and solar activity. Magnetic storms caused by solar activity may bring about variations in excess of one percent of the magnitude of the earth's normal magnetic field; but in general the changes are slight and require sensitive instruments for their measurement.

The Bella Vista Hospital has had problems of staffing since it opened. Nurse shortages have been typical of all insular hospitals. There have been no national Seventh-day Adventist nurses available and no school where they could receive nursing education. The question has been raised whether it would be feasible to establish a school of nursing in connection with the hospital. This would give opportunity for Seventh-day Adventist young people who seek nursing education and would help prepare nurses to staff the hospital.

This study was conducted to find out if Paradise Valley School of Nursing is meeting certain specified objectives and to gather information which could help in future curriculum planning to better meet the needs of the students.

The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from graduates of the 1950-1957 classes. This group comprised those graduating from the three-year diploma program. A questionnaire was mailed to 149 graduates of which 124 responded.

Statement of the Problem: the purpose of this study was to find out the current faculty-student ratio in the medical-surgical area in collegiate school of nursing which were fully accredited by the National League for Nursing and the number of students with which instructors felt comfortable in their clinical instructions.

Method: the descriptive survey method with a questionnaire was used to collect data from the study. Eighty-six instructors returned the questionnaire.

The Precambrian metamorphosis rocks of the Tijeras Canyon area crop out along a five-mile, northeast-trending belt, which lies approximately five miles east of the Sandia Mountains front, in north-central New Mexico. The sequence, to the east, is overlain uncomfortably by Pennsylvanian Madera limestone, while the trace of the Tijeras fault marks the western side.

With the advent of good commercially available photomultiplier tubes, scintillation counters have become increasingly popular for laboratory use. Although there are a number of materials such as ionic crystals, covalent crystals, plastics, and liquid organic solutions, which are used in scintillation counters, liquid organic solutions offer distinct advantages. Because the organic solutes used in liquid scintillation systems have decay times of the order of 10^-8 second, systems with resolving times of the order of 5x10^-10 second may be obtained. The segment of the South Fork thrust in the Belknap ranch area contains rocks representative of the Upper Jurassic, Lower Cretaceous and Upper Cretaceous. The thrust plate occupies 75 percent of the mapped area. Approximately 3,500 feet of predominantly marine rocks comprise the detachment thrust and about 15 percent of the exposed rocks of the thrust plate is sandstone and conglomerate. All the rock units present in the thrust plate crop out beyond the edge of the over-riding mass except the Sundance and Morrison formations. The Pennsylvanian Madera formation of Palomas Peak in the Sandia Mountains of central New Mexico is a sequence of marine limestone and minor sandstone that ranges in age from Desmoinesian to Virgilian. The limestone is predominantly clastic or bioclastic and the sandstone is arkosic. Lithologic and paleontologic evidence suggests an epineritic to infraneritic environment on a gently subsiding shelf during deposition of the Madera Sediments.

Rhythmic deposition at Palomas Peak is evidenced by alternating clastic and bioclastic limestones which may have resulted from: (1) eustatic changes in sea level, (2) tectonic fluctuations in the downwarping of the shelf, or (3) …
