Exact Formulas For Restricted Coprime Representations Of Even Integers, Andres Mauricio Salazar Oct 2026

Exact Formulas For Restricted Coprime Representations Of Even Integers, Andres Mauricio Salazar

Communications on Number Theory and Combinatorial Theory

Let p ≥ 5 be prime, and let g(2n,p) denote the number of unordered representations by positive integers 2n = h + k, with h ≤ k and gcd(h,6p) = gcd(k,6p) = 1. Every positive integer coprime to 6 belongs to exactly one of the families 6z + 1 and 6z + 5. In each family, divisibility by p excludes one explicit residue class of z modulo p. We use these two excluded classes to derive an exact formula for g(2n,p) from finite residue counts and nonnegative lift counts. The formula is valid for every positive integer n, including all …

Radiological And Chemical Safety Assessment Of Drinking Water From Treatment Plants And Rivers In Kut City, Iraq, Ahmed A. Alswaty, Hadi D. Alattabi

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Climate change and increasing anthropogenic activities, particularly wastewater discharge into rivers, have raised pollution levels in the water sources of Kut City, necessitating an assessment of the radiological and chemical safety of drinking water at the city's treatment plants. Thirteen water samples were collected, comprising ten treated and three raw water samples from the source rivers. An HPGe detector was used to measure the radionuclides 214Bi, 214Pb, 212Bi, 212Pb, 40K, and 137Cs. All measured radionuclides were below the minimum detectable activity (MDA). ICP-OES analysis supported these findings, as U concentrations in most samples were …

(Si17-07) Application Of Triple Laplace Transform To Solve Poisson Equation, Ranjana Gothankar, Bhawna Agrawal

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The well-known Laplace equation, having an elliptical character, is popularly known as the Poisson partial differential equation. It occupies a central place in mathematical physics and engineering due to its ability to describe steady-state diffusion, electrostatics, gravitational potential, and heat conduction problems. The Poisson partial differential equation in three variables is solved by employing the triple Laplace transform in Laplace domain. In original domain, the solutions are obtained numerically using the Brancik technique. The numerous illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the behavior and sensitivity of the solutions. This dual approach analytical simplification via the triple Laplace transform and accurate …

(Si17-06) Green-Naghdi Theory Of Two-Temperature Fractional Thermoelasticity Under Thermal Shock And Ramp-Type Heating, Sagar Sankeshwari, Vinayak Kulkarni

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The linear thermoelasticity theory without energy dissipation developed by Green-Naghdi has been reconstructed by using two temperature theory in the context of a time fractional derivative. In half-space, the mathematical model is discussed for one-dimensional wave propagation subject to two different problems, viz., thermal shock and ramp-type heating at the bounding surface. Assume the bounding surface is traction-free. The analytical solutions are obtained in the Laplace domain. The Gaver-Stehfest technique is numerically used to perform time domain inversion of the Laplace transform, satisfying Kuznetsov’s convergence condition. The impact of fractional order parameters on the variations of various fields inside the …

(Si17-13) A Study Of Generalized (𝜶,𝜷)-Nonexpansive Type 1 Mapping In 𝒃-Metric Space, M. J. Ali, G. Aggarwal

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this research article, we generalized KF-iteration process in 𝑏-metric space for the generalised (𝛼,𝛽)−nonexpansive type 1 mappings. We present some convergence theorems for KF-iteration process with respect to generalised mappings in 𝑏-metric space. We discussed some numerical examples of generalised (𝛼,𝛽)-nonexpansive type 1 mappings and we proved that KF-iteration process is stronger than the other iterations. The results obtained in this research generalize and improve several related results of fixed-point convergence in the literature.

(Si17-05) Properties Of The Fermatean Fuzzy Matrix And Its Applications, Vineet Kumar, Anjana Gupta, H. C. Taneja

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

All real-world problems involve a significant amount of imprecision. To deal with the unpredictable environment, various methods and tools have been introduced. The Fermatean fuzzy matrix (FFM) is one of the important concepts for dealing with imprecision. In this paper, we explore the concept of Fermatean fuzzy matrix and introduce certain significant definitions. Some propositions and theorems of Fermatean fuzzy matrix are introduced with their proofs. The adjoint and determinant methods of Fermatean fuzzy matrices are also introduced. Finally, we have proposed a similarity measure and illustrated it via an application of Fermatean fuzzy matrix in decision-making problems.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of aging and deterioration on NOx emissions from heavy-duty diesel trucks (HDDTs) with different emission control technologies, including Engine Control only, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). In-use tailpipe emissions were measured from 12,023 HDDTs from 13 roadside measurement campaigns conducted in California and Utah between 2008 and 2024. Vehicle registration records and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) engine certification database were used to identify engine NOx control technology. At younger ages, SCR-equipped HDDTs generally emitted significantly less NOx than non-SCR-equipped HDDTs. However, after several years …

Ranking Stocks In The S&P 500 And Nasdaq-100 Using An Entropy-Weighted Topsis Method, Hyeseong Oh '27 Oct 2026

Ranking Stocks In The S&P 500 And Nasdaq-100 Using An Entropy-Weighted Topsis Method, Hyeseong Oh '27

Annual Student Research Poster Session

This project ranks stocks in the S&P 500 and NASDAQ-100 using TOPSIS, a multi-criteria decision-making method. Instead of relying on a single financial ratio, each stock is scored on ten indicators covering valuation, profitability, cash flow, leverage, growth, efficiency, volatility, and momentum. Weights are set with the entropy method, which gives more weight to indicators that vary more across stocks, so the weights come from the data rather than personal judgment. TOPSIS then measures how close each stock is to a hypothetical best case and how far it is from a worst case. The S&P 500 is analyzed as two …

Exploring The Localization And Impact Of Nanoconfined Alcohols In The Aot Reverse Micelle Model System, Zoe Green '27, Minjung Lee '27, Gerardo A. Virgen, Nancy E. Levinger

Annual Student Research Poster Session

Most chemical reactions involving water are studied on the bulk scale despite most biological reactions occurring in nanoscopic environments. To understand the complexities of aqueous chemistry occurring in confined spaces, this study utilizes the aerosol OT (AOT) reverse micelle (RM), a well characterized and widely adopted self-assembled model system to investigate nanoconfined water solutions. We introduced an alcohol and carboxylic acid species as molecular additives and found they fundamentally alter the properties of self-assembled systems, changing their size and stability. This work is the starting point for an in-depth study of different carbon length alcohols and carboxylic acids in nanoconfined …

Computational Study Of Irrational Rotations Via Exact Discontinuity Tracking: A New Experimental Framework, Hannah Kravitz Oct 2026

Computational Study Of Irrational Rotations Via Exact Discontinuity Tracking: A New Experimental Framework, Hannah Kravitz

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations

We present an algorithm for studying the sum𝐺𝑁⁡(𝑥,𝜌)=𝑁∑𝑘=1[{𝑥+𝑘⁢𝜌}−12],

which is closely related to the discrepancy of the irrational rotation. Computation of𝐺𝑁and associated statistics is notoriously difficult due to numerical instability and the failure of sampling to capture the discontinuities. Our algorithm instead fully defines𝐺𝑁through its discontinuities, which allows computation of𝐺𝑁⁡(𝑥,𝜌)with errors on the order of𝑁times machine epsilon in𝑂⁡(𝑁)time for practical𝑁. The associated probability density function can then be computed in𝑂⁡(𝑁⁢log⁡𝑁)time. Presented as a tool for experimental mathematics, the algorithm enables reliable plots of the descriptive statistics of𝐺𝑁over𝑁, in particular the length of the support of the pdf (the discrepancy), revealing …

Online Multidimensional Multiple Choice Knapsack Path Planner For Uavs, Manisha Wadhwa, Neelima Gupta, Sanjay Madria

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

The rapid proliferation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in safety–critical and time-sensitive applications such as disaster management, battlefield reconnaissance, urban surveillance and infrastructure inspection demands online path planning strategies. A fundamental requirement in such missions is generating flight paths that pass through some pre-specified waypoints while servicing dynamically requested spatio-temporal task points arriving randomly such as capturing aerial imagery. Existing UAV path planning approaches, including A* and its variants, meta-heuristic algorithms, and dynamic programming, find the shortest distance path from source to destination, but they are predominantly offline and assume complete prior environmental knowledge, thus, incur significantly higher computational cost …

Rent-A-Rag: Embedding-Space Watermarks For Auditing Third-Party Rag, Alexandr Goultiaev Tolstokorov, Kyriakos Mouratidis, Javad Dogani, Nikolaos Laoutaris

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Third-party retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) marketplaces create a new auditing problem: data providers may license corpora to a RAG operator, yet later have no visibility into whether their documents are being reused without compensation. Auditing this misuse is difficult because the operator is non-cooperative, answers are paraphrased by the generator, and one response may combine evidence from many providers. We propose DirBucket, a provider-side semantic watermarking and black-box auditing framework for document-level reuse in multi-provider RAG. DirBucket watermarks documents by meaningpreserving paraphrases whose embeddings are biased toward provider-bucket secret directions, enabling detection from black-box answers while preserving retrieval utility. On a …

Are We Stuck? Modeling And Detecting Deadlocks In Multi-Autonomous Vehicle Systems, Mingfei Cheng, Xiaofei Xie, Lili Quan, Yuan Zhou

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Autonomous driving system (ADS) testing is essential to ensure the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles (AVs) prior to deployment. As ADSs are increasingly deployed in multi-AV traffic environments, it becomes crucial to assess their cooperative performance, particularly with respect to deadlock, a fundamental liveness issue in concurrent systems that can lead to traffic congestion and prolonged stalling. However, the analysis and testing of ADSs’ cooperative capabilities with respect to deadlock remain largely underexplored. In this work, we present the first systematic study of deadlock in multi-AV systems. We formalize deadlock in autonomous driving using a time-indexed wait-for relation grounded …

Compiling Code Llms Into Lightweight Executables, Jieke Shi, Junda He, Zhou Yang, Chengran Yang, Mykhailo Klymenko, Thong (James) Hoang, Sherry (Xiwei) Xu, Zhenchang Xing, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The demand for better prediction accuracy and higher execution performance in neural networks continues to grow. The emergence and success of Large Language Models (LLMs) have produced many cloud-based tools for software engineering tasks such as code suggestion. Although effective, cloud deployment raises concerns over privacy, latency, and reliance on network connectivity. Running LLMs locally on personal devices such as laptops would address these issues, because it enables offline use and reduces response time. However, local deployment is challenging, since commodity devices lack high-performance accelerators such as GPUs and are constrained by limited memory and compute capacity, which makes it …

Deflation-Based Preconditioning For Parallel Time Stepping Algorithms, Marina Nacianceno, Josef A. Sifuentes Oct 2026

Deflation-Based Preconditioning For Parallel Time Stepping Algorithms, Marina Nacianceno, Josef A. Sifuentes

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

Often, in solving large systems of differential equations using a time-stepping algorithm, one must solve multiple linear systems where the coefficient matrix is unchanged or shifted by a constant multiple of the identity. This can be computationally expensive when the coefficient matrix involved is very large. Where direct methods like Gaussian elimination are infeasible, iterative methods like GMRES are often used. It is especially useful when the matrices involved are sparse or allow for fast matrix multiplication algorithms. In this paper, we propose preconditioning strategies that glean information from previous runs of GMRES to build an effective preconditioner for subsequent …

Blue Carbon Ecosystems As Climate Solutions: Sequestration Across Coastal And Marine Environments, Allison K. White, Richard J. Kline, Md. Saydur Rahman

School of Earth, Environmental, & Marine Sciences Faculty Publications

Blue carbon ecosystems (BCEs) such as mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses, sequester significant amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. These ecosystems capture and store carbon in biomass and sediments over long periods. Other marine ecosystems, including the open ocean, kelp forests, bivalve reefs, and coral reefs, have been excluded from the BCEs, but they have the potential to serve as crucial blue carbon sinks or to support adjacent BCEs. Climate change, however, poses severe threats to these ecosystems. Rising sea levels, increasing temperatures, and ocean acidification can lead to habitat loss, reduced biodiversity, and impaired carbon sequestration capacity. Consequently, anthropogenic …
