A Study Of The Religious Behavior Of The Graduates Of A Selected School Of Nursing, Louise Maybelle Brown Apr 1958

A Study Of The Religious Behavior Of The Graduates Of A Selected School Of Nursing, Louise Maybelle Brown

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

This was a study of the religious behavior of the nurses who have graduated from a selected school of nursing. The purposes of the study were (1) to obtain information as to what the graduates of the selected school have been and are doing relative to their everyday religious behavior and practices, and (2) to ascertain to what extent, if any, this school of nursing has influenced the every-day religious behavior and practices of the graduates. Religious behavior was defined as that behavior which can be observed in public and private religious activities such as Bible study, prayer, church attendance …

Some Properties Of Compactifications, Melvin Henriksen, John R. Isbell Mar 1958

Some Properties Of Compactifications, Melvin Henriksen, John R. Isbell

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

A compactification of a topological space X is a compact (Hausdorff) space containing a dense subspace homeomorphic with X. Since only completely regular spaces have compactifications, all spaces mentioned here will be completely regular unless the contrary is assumed explicitly. This paper is a study of properties of the sets of points which may be added to a space in compactifying it.

Investigation Of The Geometric Effects Connected With The U-Effect-Iii, Anthony Edward Hoffman Jan 1958

Investigation Of The Geometric Effects Connected With The U-Effect-Iii, Anthony Edward Hoffman

Masters Theses

"Statement of Problem: The investigation reported herein is of the dependence of the voltage output due to the U-Effect-III upon the geometry of the tube. The geometry of the tube is defined to include the inner diameter of the tube as well as the size and number of the mercury and electrolyte drops. The previous experimental study of the effect did not include an investigation of the effects of the geometry of the tube, as defined above, on the voltage output. It seems that information as to the dependence of the output voltage on the geometry of the tube would …

An Application Of Cathodic Sputtering To The Etching Of Metallographic Specimens, Robert Ruch Jan 1958

An Application Of Cathodic Sputtering To The Etching Of Metallographic Specimens, Robert Ruch

Masters Theses

"The U. S. Bureau of Mines at Rolla, Missouri has for some years been conducting research on manganese-copper alloys. The study of the physical metallurgy of these alloys -- dissimilar metal couples -- has always been complicated by the difficulty of satisfactorily etching this material. It was felt that by introducing a new etching technique, cathodic bombardment, satisfactory etching might be accomplished. On this basis the following research program was proposed:

1) To survey the present state of art of cathodic etching, etching by means of cathodic sputtering;

2) To design and construct suitable equipment for the experimental study of …

A Proposal For Emphasizing Modern Mathematics In Elementary Algebra, Betty Sayre Grubb Jan 1958

A Proposal For Emphasizing Modern Mathematics In Elementary Algebra, Betty Sayre Grubb

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

For the past fifty years educators and mathematicians have urged that we change our approach to mathematics. The need for change or modernization of teaching mathematics is at least as great now as it ever was. The body of mathematical content vital to the pursuit of both pure and applied mathematics is growing continually. At the same time the demand for people trained in mathematics, including its newer developments, is growing. The only solution would appear to be the integration of these new ideas, as extensively as possible by each teacher, into all levels of training in mathematics. This thesis …

Physics, Chapter 46: Nuclear Reactions, Henry Semat, Robert Katz

Robert Katz Publications

One of the most important developments of twentieth-century physics was the formulation of the special theory of relativity. This theory was an outgrowth of the failure of all attempts to show that the motion of the source of light relative to the observer had any effect on the speed of light. It is impossible to account for these experimental findings of Michelson and Morley, and others, on the basis of classical mechanics and electromagnetic theory. In 1905, Albert Einstein put forth the suggestion that all experimental findings would be clarified if it were assumed that the speed of light is …

A Kinetic Study Of The Base Catalyzed Esterification Of Acetic Anhydride With Ethyl Alcohol Using A High Frequency Oscillometer, William E. Lowery

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It is the purpose of this investigation to determine the feasibility of using a 120 megacycle oscillometer for kinetic studies in non-aqueous solutions by studying the reaction rate of the base catalyzed esterification of acetic anhydride.

When a liquid flows through a pipe in such a way that it completely fills the pipe, and as much liquid enters one end of the pipe as leaves the other end of the pipe in the same time, then the liquid is said to flow at a steady rate. At any point of the pipe, the flow of the liquid does not change with time. The path of any particle of liquid as it moves through the pipe is called a streamline. We can map the flow of liquid through the pipe by drawing a series of …

A Study Of Attitudes Influencing Indonesian Seventh-Day Adventist Youth To Enter Nursing, Wilma L. Leazer Jan 1958

A Study Of Attitudes Influencing Indonesian Seventh-Day Adventist Youth To Enter Nursing, Wilma L. Leazer

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

In this study a survey was made of the attitudes of Indonesian Seventh-day Adventists toward nursing. This was done for the purpose of discovering why there is a shortage of women applicants to the Seventh-day Adventist nursing school in Bandung, Java. The study was accomplished through the use of questionnaires administered to four selected groups in two geographic areas of Indonesia, and revealed attitudes of two adult groups and two student group. One hundred and twenty-one persons responded to the questionnaires.

The survey indicated that Indonesian Seventh-day Adventists seem to be highly enthusiastic about nursing and believe it is a …

Local Connectedness In The Stone-Cech Compactification, Melvin Henriksen, John R. Isbell Dec 1957

Local Connectedness In The Stone-Cech Compactification, Melvin Henriksen, John R. Isbell

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

This is a study of when and where the Stone-Čech compactification of a completely regular space may be locally connected. As to when, Banaschewski [1] has given strong necessary conditions for βX to be locally connected, and Wallace [19] has given necessary and sufficient conditions in case X is normal. We show below that Banaschewski's necessary conditions are also sufficient and may be restated as follows: βX is locally connected if and only if X is locally connected and pseudo-compact (Corollary 2.5). Moreover, the requirement that βX be locally connected is so strong that it implies that every completely regular …

Industrial Wastes: Bio-Assays For Control Of Industrial Effluents, Croswell Henderson, Clarence M. Tarzwell Sep 1957

Industrial Wastes: Bio-Assays For Control Of Industrial Effluents, Croswell Henderson, Clarence M. Tarzwell

United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications

Waste effluents from many industries are toxic to fish and other aquatic life. The control or treatment of these wastes for safe release into receiving waters presents a problem of consider able magnitude.

Much effort has been expended by some industries to solve this problem, primarily through chemical analysis for possible toxic components and then generally by a search of the literature to find out how toxic a particular component may be. Unfortunately, this approach has not been successful, nor can it be expected to be productive of satisfactory answers.

A Study Of Cholesterol And Lecithin Blood Levels In Rh Sensitized Women Treated With Rh Hapten, Franklyn Lewis Jul 1957

A Study Of Cholesterol And Lecithin Blood Levels In Rh Sensitized Women Treated With Rh Hapten, Franklyn Lewis

Masters Theses

The Problem And Its Background

Introduction

Perhaps one of the most popular subjects, and a subject which has been discussed a great deal by the layman is that of Rh and Rh incompatibilities.

Landsteiner1 discovered the Rh property of human blood by means of immune sera prepared with the blood of rhesus monkeys. He was assisted in this work by Wiener2, who states that the Rh property was found to be present in about 85% of white individuals, and independent of the blood groups and M-N type. It is these individuals who are referred to as Rh …

A Study Of The Charles-Mission Canyon Contact, David H. Dahlem Jun 1957

A Study Of The Charles-Mission Canyon Contact, David H. Dahlem

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

This study is an attempt to define criteria for picking the Charles-Mission Canyon contact from well-cuttings logs, electric logs and radio-active logs; and all findings are discussed, whether positive or negative. Correlation by electric log was successful from the Cut Bank area to the Cedar Creek anticline but sample logs from the same wells do not agree. The conclusions reached is the point to the unreliability of the sample logs based on well-outtings data.
