Building on those detailed studies, this paper distills the most important findings into a concise, practical, and actionable framework to guide where in-situ gel treatments should be applied, how they should be designed, and how their outcomes can be evaluated. The proposed workflow guides engineers through five integrated stages: screening appropriate gel types, designing formulation and injection strategies, predicting field response, evaluating treatment performance, and conducting iterative refinement with feedback loops to adjust designs based on observed outcomes. The framework …
Gamma Belief Functions And Fuzzy Sets And Application To Combining Predictive Models, Liping Liu
Gamma Belief Functions And Fuzzy Sets And Application To Combining Predictive Models, Liping Liu
University Research
Extending classic finite frameworks to continuous settings, this paper proposes the concept of gamma belief functions and gamma fuzzy sets. It shows that both the combination of gamma belief functions and the intersection of gamma fuzzy sets remain within the gamma family, enabling their application in combining gamma probability judgments in decision making and gamma regression models in ensemble learning. Using both simulated and real datasets, and under both constant and varying dispersion assumptions, experimental results show that the combined gamma regression models closely approximate the reference models learned from the full datasets, aligning with the objectives of bootstrapping. Notably, …

We report the detection of a set of new near-infrared emission features between 3.5 and 5.2 μm in JWST/NIRSpec observations of Tc 1, the planetary nebula known for displaying the cleanest and most prominent mid-infrared cosmic fullerene spectrum. These broad features share the same spatial distribution as the well-known C60 and C70 mid-infrared emission bands, peaking in an asymmetric ring approximately 5″–6″ from the central star. Through comparison with new anharmonic quantum chemical calculations, we demonstrate that these features arise from C60 combination bands, marking their first detection in an astrophysical environment. The total energy radiated …

Tuning Ion Mobility And Molecular Confinement In High-Performance Polymer Electrolytes For Energy Storage, Ezzeldien Yousef Muhammed Yousef
Theses and Dissertations
This research addresses the critical energy density limitations of aqueous supercapacitors, which are traditionally constrained by the narrow electrochemical stability window (ESW) of water 1.23 V. By employing two distinct molecular engineering strategies, this study developed high-performance electrolyte systems that significantly extend voltage stability and thermal resilience.
The first system, CsBr@PAM/HA, utilizes a polyacrylamide and hyaluronic acid hydrogel matrix. This system exploits the chaotropic nature of Cs+ ions to disrupt the aqueous hydrogen-bonding network, enhancing ionic conductivity to 104 mS cm-1. Through systematic salt screening, CsBr was identified as the optimal electrolyte, enabling a stable 2.0 V …

Engineering Nanoelectrocatalytic Systems For Co2 And Nitrate Conversion Into Value-Added Chemicals, Abdelrahman Mohamed Abdelmohsen
Theses and Dissertations
The thesis addresses two major related environmental crises: nitrate pollution of water systems and the ever-increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Both challenges are closely linked to anthropogenic disturbance of nitrogen and carbon cycles and require sustainable, energy efficient mitigation techniques. In this study, we investigate electrochemical conversion routes as a unified approach to convert these pollutants into value-added compounds: ammonia (NH3) via nitrate reduction (NO3-RR) and ethylene (C2H4) via carbon dioxide reduction (CO2RR). The first half of this work deals with the design and engineering of Cu-Zn alloy electrocatalysts for efficient NO3-RR. Tuning the alloy composition and surface nanostructure …

Examining The Impact Of The Palisades And Eaton Fires On Air Quality In Los Angeles, Ryan Edward Glenn
Examining The Impact Of The Palisades And Eaton Fires On Air Quality In Los Angeles, Ryan Edward Glenn
Earth Sciences Undergraduate Senior Theses
Wildland-urban-interface (WUI) fires in the US are increasing in frequency and intensity with disproportionately large impacts on air quality and human health. In January 2025, the Palisades and Eaton wildfires swept across the Los Angeles Basin, burning residential areas and destroying vegetation. Despite their significance, WUI fires remain understudied compared to wildland fires, especially in regard to emissions composition. Here, I utilize a combination of field samples, modeling, and remotely-sensed datasets to survey the emissions profiles and variations during the 2025 Palisades and Eaton wildfires. I find that 75.1% of Los Angeles County was exposed to surface PM2.5 rated ‘unhealthy’ …
Beyond The Best Prompt: A Coverage View Of Multilingual Reasoning, Harshiv Mistry
Beyond The Best Prompt: A Coverage View Of Multilingual Reasoning, Harshiv Mistry
University Honors Theses
Multilingual LLMs reason more accurately in English than in other languages, and recent work links part of this gap to reasoning behavior: native-language traces contain fewer cognitive behaviors (verification, backtracking, subgoal setting, backward chaining) that support effective problem solving. We test whether prompting for these behaviors at inference time narrows the gap, across seven conditions varying chain-of-thought, instruction and reasoning language, and cognitive-behavior descriptions, on two models, three languages. We find that English-scaffolded reasoning is the strongest single strategy on both models, closing the Hindi gap on Qwen, though the explicit scaffold's value over plain chain-of-thought is model-dependent. Beyond aggregate …
Effects Of Fine Sediment On The Productivity Of Stream Ecosystems In The Pacific Northwest, Veena I. Davis
Effects Of Fine Sediment On The Productivity Of Stream Ecosystems In The Pacific Northwest, Veena I. Davis
University Honors Theses
Salmon are important to the culture, ecosystem and economy of the Pacific Northwest. However, populations have declined significantly since European colonization. Salmon require specific conditions for each life stage and are highly sensitive to environmental stressors. Excess fine sediment is a leading form of pollution as it degrades salmon spawning habitat and the benthos upon which their main food source, stream insects, live. To evaluate the effect of sediment pollution on food availability for salmon smolt, we conducted an experiment estimating the amount of stream insect biomass and calories lost due to sediment pollution. We counted insects on substrate samples …

Assessing Spatial Distribution Of Plausible Earthquake-Triggered Landslides Relative To Ca. 1000 Ybp Earthquake On The Gales Creek Fault, Jacqueline Rheingans
University Honors Theses
Modern coseismic landslides cluster near the surface trace of the fault that ruptured, suggesting that clustering of paleolandslides may record information about paleoearthquakes. This study documents the pattern of prehistoric landslides near the Gales Creek Fault (GCF), northwest Oregon, to assess whether it reflects an independently known paleoearthquake. The GCF is located northwest of Portland through the Cascadia fore-arc basin where landslides are often triggered by intense rainfall during the wet season or potentially by seismic shaking on the megathrust or on crustal faults. In order to understand how a seismic event on the GCF will impact landslide distribution I …

Custom Sbc Gps Tracking And Geocaching Carputer Software Development And Implementation, Joshua A. Davis
University Honors Theses
This thesis argues that hardware-integrated capstone projects develop software engineering skills that traditional coursework cannot replicate. A team of eight developers built a GPS tracking system on a Raspberry Pi 4 over two academic terms, integrating real-time position streaming, the APRS amateur radio protocol for network-independent location sharing, and PostGIS spatial queries for "new road" detection. The system implements SmartBeaconing for adaptive GPS data reduction, achieving approximately 80% storage savings while preserving route fidelity. The project exposed challenges absent from classroom assignments: hardware debugging without stack traces, cross-layer integration failures, and coordination overhead when deploying to unfamiliar architecture; demonstrating that …

Analysis Of Social Media Trends For Political Election Predictions, Wong Jing Hong, Lew Sook Ling, Tan Li Tao
Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering
The traditional opinion polls are losing the capability to forecast election results because of the biasness in the sampling and the slowness in updating the polls. Although social media has a lot of real-time data, it has a considerable number of drawbacks, such as noise and demographic bias. This paper shows a new end-to-end forecasting pipeline, which is evaluated on a corpus of 1.75 million tweets related to the 2020 election in the U.S. Our approach adopts a dual-path sentiment extracted (VADER & RoBERTa) for a better accuracy and a new state level feature engineering to fix data bias. This …

Present wellness monitoring systems primarily emphasize single-modality metrics, neglecting the intricate, interdependent interactions among cardiac, neural, and behavioral regulatory systems. This paper introduces a machine learning framework that implements heart–brain–body coherence as a dynamic, longitudinally evaluated wellness metric. In contrast to previous simulation-based studies that utilized independently generated, cross-sectional data categorized by deterministic IF-THEN rules, the current study adopts a longitudinal simulation design featuring 80 virtual subjects monitored across 30 consecutive daily profiles (N=2,400 records). This design incorporates physiologically realistic inter-variable correlations and probabilistic coherence labelling derived from a continuous risk-scoring function. The subject-level train/test split (56 training subjects, 1,680 …

Many computer networks in operation today currently use both IPv4 and IPv6 stacks. On the other hand, there is a transition towards IPv6-only networks as a result of the limited availability of IPv4 addresses. The primary protocol for link-local IPv6 communication is the Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP). Regrettably, its insecure design and basic scope-based security mechanisms make the local network susceptible to insider threats. The Internet Engineering Task Force’s recommended security mechanism for NDP, which is Secure Neighbor Discovery (SEND), is well documented but complex and unsuitable for resource-constrained devices and networks. Trust-ND was positioned as an alternative to SEND …
