Nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reactions are one of the most widely used reaction classes in pharmaceutical production today, used for example to produce nitroaryl amine intermediates. In comparison to the traditional SNAr pathway, the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of hydrogen (NASH) provides a greener alternative in pharmaceutical production by using cheaper starting materials, eliminating more hazardous solvents, and reducing toxic waste.

Synthesis And Charge Transport Characterization Of 9,9'-Bifluorenylidene-Based Conjugated Molecules For Single-Molecule Conductance, Zach Moughamian, Jahnavi Badiganti, Jinjia Xu
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Molecular electronics explores the use of individual molecules as functional components in nanoscale electronic devices. In this project, fluorenone-based π-conjugated molecules including 9,9'-bifluorenylidene-S and triphenylamine-substituted derivatives were synthesized to investigate structure-property relationships relevant to molecular charge transport. The synthesized compounds were obtained in 13% and 27% yield respectively. ¹H NMR spectroscopy confirms characteristic aromatic resonances in the 7-9 ppm region consistent with the conjugated framework. UV–Vis spectroscopy reveals absorption maxima at 459 nm and 470 nm, indicating extended π-conjugation and donor-acceptor effects. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction confirms the structure of 9,9'-bifluorenylidene-S, which crystallizes in the monoclinic system (space group P2₁/c). In …

Enantioselectivity Of The Photochemical Continuous-Flow Isomerization Of Humulones, Gregory M. Giovine, Trevor Smith, Bruce Hamper
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Humulones, the primary natural product present in the historically significant hop flower, represent a largely unexplored candidate for structure-based pharmaceutical design. Showing promising biological activity as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent, humulones are of interest both for their bioactive properties and for their long-established tolerability and natural abundance. Humulones undergo a characteristic isomerization reaction, where the six-membered substituted phloroglucinol ring contracts to a five-membered ring isohumulone, under a variety of conditions, including those enabled by brewing conditions (thermal, metal-catalyzed) and by exposure to UV light. Optimization of the photocatalyzed isomerization of n-humulone to n-isohumulone in flow conditions resulted in a …

Academics need both an overarching policy on Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) use in teaching and learning, yet agency in its application across various disciplines. Clarity on the use of the technology for both students and staff is therefore a challenge and characterised by uncertainty given how its application is still unfamiliar. This research examines the organisational context in which Gen AI is being embraced and was conducted by the digital teaching support functions within an Irish university. Students and staff were surveyed (n=1,746) on various aspects of digital use within their education and workplace, including Gen AI. …

Assessment Of Inter-Observer Variability In Delineating High-Risk Clinical Target Volumes And Organs At Risk In Cervical Cancer Brachytherapy, Atumaini A. Makoba, Julius S. Chiuyo, Innocent J. Lugendo
Tanzania Journal of Science
Achieving precise target volume delineation during cervical cancer treatment poses challenges due to several reasons, including difficulties in establishing the precise geometrical location of the gross target volume. Inter-observer variability in contouring anatomical structures poses a critical challenge to treatment consistency, delineation, and dosimetry accuracy. Volumetric and dosimetric records of 20 patients treated with gynecologic high-dose rate brachytherapy were analyzed to assess the interobserver variability between oncologists. Three radiation oncologists independently examined the organs at risk and high-risk critical organs on 20 computed tomography scans. The volumetric and dosimetric relationship between the contours delineated by radiation oncologists was described using …

Tanzania Journal of Science
The need for sustainable, non-food drilling fluid additives has prompted the feasibility assessment of acetylated Icacina trichantha tuber starch as a viscosity modifier and fluid loss control agent in water-based muds. Native starch was acetylated to obtain two derivatives (Degree of Substitution DS = 0.38 and 0.68) and characterized using FTIR, swelling power, and physicochemical analyses. Drilling mud performance was assessed through rheology, gel strength, filtration loss, sorptivity, and model fitting. Acetylation improved swelling and reduced gelatinization temperature. The optimal formulation, Mud-ITO-ACS2 (DS = 0.68), exhibited the most favorable performance, combining low plastic viscosity (6 cP vs 9 cP for …

A Data-Driven Neutrosophic Multi-Criteria Intelligent System For Functional Disability Severity Assessment, Ehab Abdel Aziz Al-Beblawi, Mirna Samy, Abduallah Gamal
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Functional disability assessment is a multidimensional problem because individuals may experience different levels of difficulty across daily activities such as walking, standing, dressing, eating, grasping objects, and social participation. This paper proposes NIFDA, a data-driven neutrosophic multi-criteria intelligent system for functional disability severity assessment. The proposed framework represents each functional response through three components: confirmed limitation, indeterminacy, and preserved functional ability. This allows the model to handle valid responses, uncertain information, and missing or non-informative data without forcing them into a single crisp score. To reduce dependence on subjective expert weighting, NIFDA derives criterion weights objectively using a hybrid CRITIC–MEREC …

A Neutrosophic Memory-Integrity Calculus For Contradiction-Preserving Persistent Ai Agents, Rana Muhammad Zulqarnain, Saalam Ali
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Persistent AI agents increasingly convert interaction histories into long-lived memory, making memory transformation not retrieval alone—a central reliability problem. NMIC (Neutrosophic Memory-Integrity Calculus) formalizes the integrity of write, merge, consolidation, revision, and retrieval operations over persistent memory. Each proposition is represented through an evidence ledger carrying independent truth, indeterminacy, and falsity degrees together with reliability, provenance, temporal validity, contextual applicability, and inter-evidence dependence. A dependence-normalized hazard aggregation preserves simultaneous support and opposition while making the resulting state invariant to exact evidence duplication. Pure consolidation is governed by five integrity conditions: no support invention, no opposition invention, no manufactured certainty, contradiction …

Neutrosophic Indeterminacy-Transport Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks For Structured Uncertainty, Hafiz Muhammd Bilal, Kiran Naz, Anjum Ijaz
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs) replace fixed node activations with learnable univariate edge functions, but standard KAN inference treats two equal-valued features identically even when one is accompanied by an explicit quality warning. NIT-KAN introduces a neutrosophic indeterminacy-transport mechanism for this setting. Each node carries an indeterminacy state in [0, 1]; a monotone gate g(I)=(1-I)α attenuates uncertain evidence on the predictive path, while a sensitivity-weighted transport rule carries indeterminacy through the underlying KAN computation. A terminal audit maps signed evidence to truth-support, falsity-support, and conflict-augmented indeterminacy without interpreting these quantities as class probabilities. We …

Neutrokoopman: Channel-Preserving Koopman Spectral Analysis Of Nonlinear Dynamics With Truth, Indeterminacy, And Falsity Evidence, Ahmed Samy, Mohamed M. Abdelhafeez, K Venkatachalam, Mohamed Abouhawwash
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Modern dynamical systems increasingly operate with evidence that is not merely noisy but incomplete, contradictory, or only partially trustworthy. Conventional Koopman methods represent nonlinear dynamics through linear evolution of observables, while robust and adaptive variants address parameter and model uncertainty. They do not, however, preserve the semantic distinction between support, indeterminacy, and counter-support when those conditions are compressed into a single uncertainty variable. This paper develops NeutroKoopman, a channel-preserving Koopman framework in which the physical state is augmented by a single-valued neutrosophic evidence state νt = ( Tt,It,Ft ). Deterministic and Markovian formulations are …

Exact Solution Structure And Dynamic Preservation In A Nonstandard Finite-Difference Formulation Of The Sir Model, Ramsha Shafqat, Wutiphol Sintunavarat
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
A new nonstandard finite difference method is developed for discretizing the classical Susceptible--Infected--Removed (SIR) epidemic model. In the proposed approach, the first derivatives in the continuous SIR system are replaced by two carefully constructed nonstandard denominator functions, yielding a dynamically consistent discrete model with improved numerical stability while preserving consistency with the original continuous system. It is proved that the proposed scheme preserves the fundamental dynamical properties and qualitative behavior of the continuous SIR model, including positivity and the long-term dynamics of the population classes. Moreover, the resulting discrete system admits explicit analytical solutions, providing further insight into the model …

Neural Network-Based Analysis Of Heroin Epidemic Models With Modified Fractional Operators, M. A. El-Shorbagy, Sedat Pak, Mati Ur Rahman, Hossam A. Nabwey
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
Heroin and synthetic narcotic abuse have become a major global concern, posing challenges to individuals, families, and communities. Their widespread availability and low cost have intensified the crisis. This study investigates a heroin transmission model using the modified Atangana--Baleanu--Caputo (mABC) fractional operator, with emphasis on non-zero solutions. Series solutions are derived by combining the Laplace transform with the Adomian decomposition method to address nonlinear components. Qualitative analysis is conducted through fixed-point theory, while stability is assessed using the T-Picard method. Numerical simulations explore the effects of different fractional orders and transmission parameters on the system. The study incorporates a deep …

Detecting and classifying insect pests is a critical challenge in agricultural pest management, as infestations can reduce crop yield and quality. This study introduces JPNet, a convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture that uses multi-layer feature fusion to detect and classify insect pests affecting jute crops. The architecture integrates complementary feature representations extracted at different network depths, preserving fine-grained visual characteristics alongside high-level semantic information. JPNet is evaluated on the JutePest dataset, which comprises approximately 6,460 RGB images spanning 17 pest classes. Preprocessing and data augmentation—including resizing, normalization, rotation, shifting, zooming, and flipping—improve the consistency and diversity of the training data. …

Pattern Formation And Diffusion-Driven Instability Of A Modified Lengyel-Epstein Model, Müge Meyvacı, Hüseyin Merdan, Yafia Radouane
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
We consider a modified Lengyel-Epstein model that is covered by a system of reaction-diffusion equations and investigate the sufficient conditions on parameters of the model at which the diffusion-driven instability occurs. We perform numerical simulations to support and extend the theoretical findings. Analytical results and numerical simulations show that the modified Lengyel-Epstein system with positive initial and non-flux boundary conditions presents Turing patterns under some conditions on its parameters.

Bifurcation Dynamics Of A Harvested Predator-Prey Model, Hala H. Emam, Mohamed F. Abouelenein, Mona Anis, M. Y. Hamada, F. A. Atia, H. El-Metwally
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
In ecosystems, the harvesting effect is essential to preserving the relationships between prey and predator. This work examines a model of predator-prey in discrete time with harvesting. The Jacobian matrix's eigenvalues are calculated for the associated fixed points. We examine the dynamical and qualitative analysis of this model, look into the criteria for stability and bifurcation, and analyze analytical results that show the rich dynamics and complexity of this model. We give sufficient circumstances for the Period-doubling at the interior equilibrium point by employing the harvesting effect. The discrete system's chaos control is carried out, and the outcomes are supported …

The resilience of wildlife networks hinges on the adaptability and stability of complex predator-prey interactions. Mathematical modelling offers a crucial approach for examining and optimizing these dynamics under biological invasions and environmental pressures. This systematic literature review (SLR) employs a bibliometric analysis approach to synthesize global research on mathematical models applied to predator-prey network optimization, with an emphasis on their ecological implications, computational approaches, and modelling strategies. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), 50 peer- reviewed studies (2000–2025) were analyzed using the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The study identifies classical models, such as the …

Modelling Acute Haemorrhagic Conjunctivitis In East Africa: An Integrated Approach To Transmission Dynamics And Outbreak Response Strategies, Geofrey Wingi Sikazwe
Tanzania Journal of Science
Acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) poses a significant global health risk, with the potential for rapid spread during outbreaks. For instance, a localized outbreak in Yunnan Province, China, recorded infection rates of up to 48%, illustrating how transmission can intensify under favourable epidemiological and environmental conditions. Existing mathematical models of AHC transmission overlook seasonal variations, a critical factor in epidemic spread. This study combines species distribution models (SDMs) and epidemiological modelling to analyse key drivers of AHC in East Africa. We use the SEIR type (Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Recovered - incorporating waning immunity) framework with temperature-dependent infectivity rate as the key driver of an …

The removal of synthetic dyes from wastewater remains an urgent environmental concern due to their persistence and toxicity. This study evaluates cellulose from Hura crepitans (HC) and its acid-modified form (AHC) for the adsorption of phenol red (PR) dye from aqueous solutions. The adsorbents were characterized using FTIR to identify functional groups responsible for dye binding, XRD to determine the crystalline structure, SEM to examine surface morphology, and BET/BJH analyses to measure surface area and pore distribution. Acid modification enhanced surface roughness, porosity, and the abundance of active functional sites, leading to improved adsorption efficiency. Optimal conditions were pH 9.0 …
