The contributory chapters of the thesis start in Chapter 2 with the perspective building of the novel methodology followed throughout this research involving psychophysics on …

Communication As Layered Architecture: Core Processing And Empathic Modulation, Griselda Poe Feb 2026

Communication As Layered Architecture: Core Processing And Empathic Modulation, Griselda Poe

Publications and Research

This paper proposes a structural re-description of communication by separating Core processing from its social interface. Using the developmental sequence of Large Language Models (LLMs) as an external reference point, a layered architecture is identified, consisting of a foundational Core processing layer and a subsequent Empathic modulation layer.

The investigation begins with the observation that empathic signaling can obstruct rather than facilitate interaction for certain individuals. By examining the emergence of Base AI—Core processing prior to empathic adjustment—it is demonstrated that coherent, constraint-preserving interaction is possible without affective resonance.

Through this framework, existing cognitive theories and observed "deficits" are repositioned. …

The Feelit System: Application Content-Aware Perspectives And Challenges On Understanding User Likes In Social Network Posts, Konstantinos Theocharidis, Hady W. Lauw, Panagiotis Karras

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In a series of our prior works, we study influence and subscription maximization problems in social networks that are based on posts having influential content; as content we consider a set of features where each feature corresponds to a specific social network page, whereas influence and subscription relate to gaining the postlike and subscription-to-brand page of targeted users, respectively; subscription is conceptually achieved as repetitive influence on users. So, both influence and subscription depend on content that gains the likes of users; however, to be realistic, modeling and estimating such likes is a complex problem that has not been adequately …

A Note On Modeling Prejudice, Alan Lockard, Edwin Harcourt Jan 2026

A Note On Modeling Prejudice, Alan Lockard, Edwin Harcourt

Journal of Humanistic Mathematics

We model prejudice in the context of an iterated prisoner’s dilemma tournament. Prejudice here is defined as the inability to distinguish amongst members of an identifiable group. We run a computer simulation where agents of one of two groups with defined strategies are randomly matched against each other. The agents either cooperate with or defect against the agent they are matched with. Our focus is on agents who play an unprejudiced version of the Tit-for-Tat strategy (cooperate with any player in the first encounter, and then apply the same strategy [defect or cooperate] that the opposing player played against them …

A Just Balance And The Teaching And Learning Of Mathematics, Marshall Gordon Jan 2026

A Just Balance And The Teaching And Learning Of Mathematics, Marshall Gordon

Journal of Humanistic Mathematics

Society’s response to the question of what is worth sharing and how it best can be provided as conceived by the educational establishment shapes the education of every individual in school. As the classroom experience is a commitment to the future of society, it is good and just for society to support the educational development of each person in order that all can participate productively. In this way a “just balance” is established. In the particular case of educating students in mathematics, however, there is apparently an unjust balance, for despite the considerable time and effort students and teachers in …

Exploring The Dynamics Of Romantic Relationships Through The Lens Of Prem Rog, Umang Jain, Dheeraj Sharma, Pranay Goswami, Kuldeep Malik Jan 2026

Exploring The Dynamics Of Romantic Relationships Through The Lens Of Prem Rog, Umang Jain, Dheeraj Sharma, Pranay Goswami, Kuldeep Malik

Journal of Humanistic Mathematics

Romantic relationships are dynamic events that begin, grow, and frequently remain for a long time in a stagnant or fluctuating state until possibly dissipating. Although they are unquestionably the most significant dynamic events in our lives, dynamic systems theory has only recently included them in its formal framework. Without a mathematical model, it would be impossible to analyze and comprehend the dynamics because, in general, love stories are too brief to allow things to stabilize and are affected by the ups and downs of the surrounding community. In this paper, we set up models made up of four ordinary differential …

Agentic Intelligence Under Constraint: Energy, Context, And The Expansion Of Exchange, Nick Loghmani Jan 2026

Agentic Intelligence Under Constraint: Energy, Context, And The Expansion Of Exchange, Nick Loghmani

iSchool - All Scholarship

Recent advances in agentic artificial intelligence have been driven primarily by scale: larger models, increased data, and expanding computational resources. However, rising energy costs, inference latency, and hardware constraints increasingly challenge this trajectory. This paper argues that intelligence—biological or artificial—does not primarily scale through raw computational expansion, but through the management of exchange under constraint. Drawing on cognitive science, systems theory, and prior work on exchange-based models of intelligence, the paper proposes a theoretical framework in which agentic intelligence scales through context management, proceduralization, and the assembly of reusable units of exchange. Unlike approaches that focus solely on model compression …

Pythagorean Neutrosophic Mathematical Modelling, M. Kavitha, R. Irene Hepzibah

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Survey-based assessments often suffer from ambiguity, inconsistency, and uncertainty, which weaken the reliability of decision-making outcomes. To address these challenges, this study proposes a novel decision-support framework for data fuzzification, ranking, and agility measurement using Pythagorean Neutrosophic Fuzzy Sets (PNFS). The proposed method offers three major advantages: (i) enhanced ability to capture high levels of indeterminacy compared with classical fuzzy and intuitionistic models, (ii) improved ranking accuracy through a newly developed score function and ranking algorithm, and (iii) greater robustness in scenarios involving conflicting, incomplete, or imprecise expert judgments. The framework includes a refined Pythagorean Neutrosophic fuzzification technique, mathematically supported …
