A Framework For Pre-Pages Generator And Visualiser For Journal Publishing Systems: A Case Study, Karrthik Nadarajan, Jiaheng Lu

Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering

In the domain of academic publishing, publishers must establish an efficient editorial workflow for managing their publication schedule while producing quality content, as these two processes will ultimately provide a good experience to readers. Many independent publishers utilizing Open Journal Systems (OJS) rely on a manual compilation of "pre-pages" (front matter), including the Issue Cover, the Editorial Board List, and the Table of Contents (TOC), through a manual workflow that is labourintensive and prone to formatting and metadata errors. This study presents a web-based Pre-Pages Generator and Visualiser that automates the pre-publishing process, developed using Python and the Streamlit framework. …

Valuation Methods And Their Relevance In Achieving Marine Protected Areas Targets: A Systematic Review, Jacob Ankamah, Stephen Hynes, Daragh O'Leary

Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics

The prolific human-induced pressures on marine ecosystems leading to negative externalities such as beach erosion, biodiversity loss, and climate change are matters of global concern. Marine protected areas (MPAs) have emerged as a tool to conserve marine biodiversity and support human livelihoods. This paper reviews the global research landscape, the evolution of concepts and the relevance of valuation techniques related to the assessment of the contribution of MPAs to societal welfare. The review indicates that less than 3% of the wider MPA literature explores the economic valuation of MPA designation. Of those, there is an obvious preference for non-market-based methods …

The Digital Responsibility Index: Quantifying Perceived Multi-Layered Responsibility In Cybersecurity, Mircea Ţălu Oct 2026

The Digital Responsibility Index: Quantifying Perceived Multi-Layered Responsibility In Cybersecurity, Mircea Ţălu

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

In the evolving digital landscape, cybersecurity responsibility extends beyond technical safeguards to include individual behavior, organizational governance, and societal impact. This study introduces the Digital Responsibility Index (DRI), a novel metric that quantifies multi-layered accountability across four domains: technical, individual, organizational, and societal. Data were collected through scenario-based Likert-scale surveys with 120 cybersecurity professionals, supplemented by semi-structured interviews with senior leaders. Results reveal that while technical and organizational responsibilities are consistently prioritized, individual and societal accountability remain under-recognized. Leadership engagement significantly enhances responsibility scores across all layers. The proposed DRI framework provides a measurable and potentially actionable basis for assessing …

On Graphs With Chromatic Number And Maximum Degree Both Equal To Nine, Rachel Galindo, Jessica Mcdonald Oct 2026

On Graphs With Chromatic Number And Maximum Degree Both Equal To Nine, Rachel Galindo, Jessica Mcdonald

Theory & Applications of Graphs

An equivalent version of the Borodin-Kostochka Conjecture, due to Cranston and Rabern, says that any graph with $\chi = \Delta = 9$ contains $K_3 \lor E_6$ as a subgraph. Here we prove several results in support of this conjecture, where vertex-criticality and forbidden substructure conditions get us either close or all the way to containing $K_3 \lor E_6$.

How Water Banking Can Help Refill The Great Salt Lake, Avery Truman, Kendall Becker, Matthew Behrens, Sarah Null, Matt Yost, Scott Hotaling Oct 2026

How Water Banking Can Help Refill The Great Salt Lake, Avery Truman, Kendall Becker, Matthew Behrens, Sarah Null, Matt Yost, Scott Hotaling

All Current Publications

Concern about low water levels in the Great Salt Lake has contributed to the development of water markets in Utah. Water markets enable the voluntary transfer of water or water rights from right holders to other people or entities in exchange for compensation. In general, these transfers are more likely to occur if a water rights holder can make more money by selling their water (or water rights) to another user rather than using it themselves. Willingness to engage in water transfers also depends on the ease of transactions, confidence in the water market, and confidence in the ability to …

Are Lagrangians Involving Fractional Derivatives Physically Viable?, Nicola Fabiano Oct 2026

Are Lagrangians Involving Fractional Derivatives Physically Viable?, Nicola Fabiano

Turkish Journal of Physics

The recent trend of incorporating fractional derivatives into Lagrangians prompts a critical assessment of their physical viability. This work analyzes such theories through the lenses of classical mechanics and quantum field theory (QFT), revealing profound foundational issues. While the nonlocal nature of fractional operators circumvents Ostrogradsky's theorem, it introduces more severe problems. Classically, these include a complicated variational principle and the violation of energy conservation due to broken time-translation symmetry. In QFT, the pathologies are fatal: the propagator violates the K\"all\'en--Lehmann spectral representation, leading to acausal propagation, ghost states, complex poles, and a loss of unitarity. We conclude that Lagrangians …

Electron-Loss And Electron-Capture Cross Sections In  H + H₂⁺ Collisions, Saed J. Al Atawneh, Oqlah Al-Refai, Mohammed Abu-Seileek, Feras Afaneh Oct 2026

Electron-Loss And Electron-Capture Cross Sections In  H + H₂⁺ Collisions, Saed J. Al Atawneh, Oqlah Al-Refai, Mohammed Abu-Seileek, Feras Afaneh

Turkish Journal of Physics

We investigate projectile electron-loss, target electron-loss, and target electron capture in H + H₂⁺ collisions using classical trajectory Monte Carlo (CTMC) and quantum-corrected classical trajectory Monte Carlo (QCTMC) methods within a fully four-body model. Energy-dependent cross sections are reported for all three channels. For projectile electron-loss, we additionally analyze impact-parameter-dependent probabilities and representative trajectories. The QCTMC method incorporates Heisenberg corrections, improving accuracy at low impact energies. Projectile and target electron-loss cross sections peak at intermediate energies and exhibit good agreement with H + H₂⁺ data at high energies. At low to intermediate energies, projectile electron-loss exceeds target electron-loss because the …

Nonlinear Mode Crossing And Spontaneous Frequency Comb Generation In Driven Magnetic Nanodisks, Hasan Pi̇şki̇n Oct 2026

Nonlinear Mode Crossing And Spontaneous Frequency Comb Generation In Driven Magnetic Nanodisks, Hasan Pi̇şki̇n

Turkish Journal of Physics

Nonlinear magnetization dynamics in confined nanostructures provide a rich platform for fundamental studies and advanced spintronic applications. Here, we investigate the driven dynamics of a perpendicularly magnetized permalloy nanodisk using high-resolution micromagnetic simulations. In the linear regime, geometric confinement quantizes the uniform precession into discrete radial standing spin-wave (SSW) modes. As the excitation amplitude increases, the fundamental Kittel mode exhibits a pronounced nonlinear frequency shift relative to the higher-order SSW modes, ultimately leading to a critical mode crossing associated with nonlinear resonance overlap and the breakdown of modal orthogonality. Time-domain analysis reveals that strong mode hybridization governs the ensuing dynamics, …

Microscopic Study Of Β-Decay And Stellar Weak Rates In Neutron-Rich Scandium Isotopes, Wajeeha Khalid, Jameel-Un Nabi, Maria Ramzan Oct 2026

Microscopic Study Of Β-Decay And Stellar Weak Rates In Neutron-Rich Scandium Isotopes, Wajeeha Khalid, Jameel-Un Nabi, Maria Ramzan

Turkish Journal of Physics

This study provides a critical investigation of the β-decay characteristics of neutron-rich scandium isotopes (53-65Sc) using the proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation (pn-QRPA) model. The theoretical framework allows for a microscopic understanding of spin-isospin excitation modes that are essential for examining weak interaction phenomena. Charge-changing Gamow-Teller (GT) strength distributions were calculated and found to agree well with existing experimental results, thereby confirming the model's capacity to accurately represent the nuclear configuration of these isotopes. The computed β-decay half-lives and corresponding log ft values exhibit good agreement with experimental data, further validating the GT strength distributions and reinforcing the consistency of …

Comparison Of Umbral Dot Physical Properties In Developed And Undeveloped Sunspots, Muhammed Ali̇ Çalişir, Ali̇ Kilçik, Vasyl Yurchyshyn

Turkish Journal of Physics

Sunspots are cool regions where the magnetic field is significantly stronger than in the surrounding photosphere, and their darkest central regions are known as the umbra. Umbral dots (UDs) are small, bright features within the umbra that represent convective motions partially suppressed by strong magnetic fields. In this study, high-resolution images from the Goode Solar Telescope (GST) at Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) were used to analyze four sunspots at different evolutionary stages, including two developed and two undeveloped sunspots. The physical properties of UDs, including brightness, diameter, eccentricity, lifetime, and dynamic velocity, were measured and compared across these sunspots …

Stress–Strain Behavior Of The High-Entropy Cantor Alloy Crmnfeconi Using A Deep Neural Network Potential, Nguyen Le Hoai Phuong, Le Huu Nghia, Huynh Khanh Van, Vo Khuong Dien, Nguyen Thanh Tien

Turkish Journal of Physics

Machine learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) provide an efficient approach to large-scale molecular dynamics simulations of high-entropy alloys. In this work, an MLIP trained on AIMD data was developed for the CrMnFeCoNi Cantor alloy and validated against DFT calculations. In addition, we compared MLIP results with those obtained using the classical modified embedded atom method (MEAM)-based interatomic potential for the CrMnFeCoNi Cantor alloy. The model achieved energy and force RMSEs of 7.39 x 10-6 meV/atom and 4.46 x 10-3 eV/A, respectively. Tensile simulations demonstrated that the MLIP accurately reproduced the stress–strain response, elastic constants, and deformation mechanisms observed in DFT calculations. …

Spacer-Mediated Gold Nanocube Arrays For Edge-Localized Excitonic Enhancement In Monolayer Mos2, Abdullah Efe Yildiz, Emre Ozan Polat

Turkish Journal of Physics

Plasmonic nanostructures offer an effective route for enhancing light-matter interaction in atomically thin semiconductors, whose optical response is intrinsically limited by their subnanometer active thickness. Here, we numerically investigate excitonic enhancement in monolayer (ML) Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) coupled to size-tuned gold (Au) nanocube arrays separated by thin aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) spacer layers. By varying the nanocube side length, the localized surface plasmon resonance is tuned across the visible spectral range to modulate the A- and B-excitonic transitions of monolayer MoS2.We show that the nanocube-size-dependent spectral redshift can be further controlled through the spacer material and …

Theoretical Construction Of Light Hexaquarks And Their Substantiation By Seven-Dimensional Representation Of Su(2) Group, Mayank Joshi, Shuchi Bisht, Navjot Hothi, Manish Bisht

Turkish Journal of Physics

This manuscript presents a theoretical approach to constructing light hexaquarks using up and down quarks. These light exotic hexaquarks are shown to exhibit a seven-dimensional representation of the SU(2) isospin group. Additionally, the isospin septuplet is developed along with the quintet, triplet, and singlet representations for these light exotic hexaquarks. These particles are essentially mesonic in nature and also satisfy the requirements of the Kronecker product. Furthermore, the physical characteristics and weights of the respective states are intrinsically provided for these light hexaquarks.

Extensive Glacier Loss In The Coterminous United States, Andrew G. Fountain, Bryce Glenn, Christopher Mcneil, Brian Menounos Oct 2026

Extensive Glacier Loss In The Coterminous United States, Andrew G. Fountain, Bryce Glenn, Christopher Mcneil, Brian Menounos

Geology Faculty Publications and Presentations

Glaciers populate the mountain ranges of the western conterminous United States and despite their importance to alpine hydrology, their area and volume change have never been comprehensively evaluated. Our study shows that since the mid-twentieth century about one-quarter of the glaciers have disappeared and the overall area and volume are reduced by one-third. The pattern of glacier shrinkage suggests most glaciers in the conterminous United States are largely maintained by local topographic influences due to their small size. These results improve our understanding of evolving high alpine hydrology and importance to ecosystem processes.

Wrf Cold-Pool Sensitivities Relevant To Winter Ozone Modelling In The Uinta Basin, John Lawson, Michael J. Davies, Loknath Dhar, Seth N. Lyman

Bingham Research Center

Cold-pool structure controls the confinement of wintertime ozone and its precursors in Utah’s Uinta Basin. Previous studies have documented difficulty capturing stable cold pools in meteorological models, complicating air quality simulations when pollutants disperse too readily. Herein, we evaluate the meteorology behind one such high-ozone event on 2 February 2013 with Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) simulations; the chemistry is not simulated. We test the sensitivity to Global Forecast System (GFS) or North American Mesoscale (NAM) forcing, domain feedback, boundary-layer and surface-layer schemes, slope-aware radiation, and terrain datasets (fine versus coarse). Across five hourly samples, GFS-driven runs were warmer at …

A Narrative-Driven, Socratic Instructional Framework For Teaching Adversarial Cognition In Cybersecurity, Joshua K. Goossen Oct 2026

A Narrative-Driven, Socratic Instructional Framework For Teaching Adversarial Cognition In Cybersecurity, Joshua K. Goossen

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

The Socratic method has demonstrated, in studies across law, medicine, and nursing, that dialectic structured questioning improves expert reasoning. Cybersecurity currently teaches tools and techniques but lacks Socratic dialogic leaving graduates underprepared for novel scenarios requiring cross-domain reasoning. Because law, medicine and nursing cultivate similar reasoning as security there is principled reason to expect reasoning benefits could transfer to security students. This paper argues that the correspondence warrants investigation. Investigation requires a named, teachable reasoning target analogous to clinical reasoning and we specify that target as adversarial cognition, a framework integrating adversary features, system architecture, implementation logic, governance structure, human …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Sustainability education on college campuses can leverage interdisciplinary collaborations between facilities services, sustainability offices, environmental studies researchers, and students to provide hands-on opportunities for place-based learning. In an effort led by student researchers that could be replicated in academic practice at other academic institutions, we collaborated across campus groups to improve campus landscaping and turfgrass management. Turfgrass is an ideal cover for high-traffic areas and recreation, but is energy intensive to maintain, inefficient at carbon sequestration, and requires fertilizing which contributes to nutrient pollution. Here, we outline a student-led research effort that combined experiential learning, using a college campus as …

Geometric Puzzles On A Circular Track: A Recreational Introduction To Quantization, Sayandip Pandit, Amit Priyadarshi, Mrinal Kanti Roychowdhury

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

Imagine a circular running track with several water stations placed around it. If only a few stations may remain open, or if a few new stations may be built, where should they be located so that runners travel the shortest possible distance to reach one? This simple question leads to a collection of recreational geometry puzzles involving distance, symmetry, optimization, Voronoi regions, and quantization. Quantization is the mathematical problem of replacing a large collection of points by a smaller set of representative points while minimizing the approximation error. Using only elementary mathematics, we investigate several configurations of points on a …

"Making The Familiar Strange": The Ecocentric Power Of Climate Fantasy, John Cook Oct 2026

"Making The Familiar Strange": The Ecocentric Power Of Climate Fantasy, John Cook

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

Contributing to the failure to address climate change is a lack of public imagination, both in perceiving the threat of climate change and conceptualizing solutions. Climate fiction engages readers on an emotional level and speculative fiction in particular can invent alternative worlds illustrating different ways of thinking and living. Fantasy fiction is uniquely suited as a form of climate fiction, with its immersive, subversive qualities, prioritization of the nonhuman, and a tendency towards sprawling, multiple-volume epic series. This paper explores two categories of climate fantasy themes. One category is recovery—regaining a clear view of the natural world. The other is …
