An Attempt To Increase The Permeability And Porosity Of The Cut Bank Oil Sand By Treatment With Various Reagents, Donald H. Johnson May 1943

An Attempt To Increase The Permeability And Porosity Of The Cut Bank Oil Sand By Treatment With Various Reagents, Donald H. Johnson

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The purpose of this investigation was to attempt to find some means of increasing the effective porosity and permeability of the producing sands of the Cut Bank Oil Field, with the hope that thereby the ultimate recovery of petroleum from this field may be increased. Although the percentage increase in production thus effected would undoubtedly be small, it would represent a substantial volume of petroleum in view of the great quantity of oil and gas present in this field.

A Cytolocical Study Of The 4th Chromosome Of Eyeless Drosophila, Joyce Ruth Soelch May 1943

A Cytolocical Study Of The 4th Chromosome Of Eyeless Drosophila, Joyce Ruth Soelch

Bachelors’ Theses

In Drosophila Melanogaster the recessive gene for eyeless and its normal allelomorph, which cause in general a redaction of the size of the eye in the adult fly, are situated in the small 4th chromosome. The purpose of this experiment was to make a Cyto- logical study and comparison of the 4th chromosomes of the eyeless Drosophila and the normal plus or wild type to determine whether this recessive gene, located on the 4th chromosome, results in a difference in the number, size, formation, or location of bands.

Permeability And Porosity Studies Of The Cut Bank Oil Sand, Wesley Edward Davis Apr 1943

Permeability And Porosity Studies Of The Cut Bank Oil Sand, Wesley Edward Davis

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

In studying the Cut Bank field and its numerous wells, it is found that dry holes are surrounded by producing wells, and also that the field as a whole is very irregular; water, oil, and gas zones in many cases following no definite pattern. In some instances, this phenomenon may be due to the lensing and thinning of the producing sands, but it is evident that this is not the only factor. Therefore, the controlling factors must be porosity and permeability.

Concrete And Cement Surface Coatings, Gabriel J. Popovich May 1941

Concrete And Cement Surface Coatings, Gabriel J. Popovich

Bachelors’ Theses

It has been with difficulty that precise information of any kind regarding the surface coating of concrete and cement finishes had been found. In fact, there was limited information to be found after 1930. Having but a short time to conduct any research, it was impossible to delve too deeply into this branch of the thesis. It is sincerely hoped that in the very near future a more thorough, extensive and comprehensive study can be made on this subject. The purpose of this thesis is to determine the best composition of concrete and the best surface coating for it and …

Solubilities Of Glycerides, Alois L. Wagner May 1941

Solubilities Of Glycerides, Alois L. Wagner

Bachelors’ Theses

The mono, di, and triglycerides have many uses in industry; each of these glycerides has a specific purpose, if not directly, then as an intermediary compound .in the synthesis of a glycerol derivative. In order to obtain the highest efficiency in a synthesis, or as a matter of fact, in any phase of chemistry, the production of a homogeneous result demands the use of pure uniform constituents.

A Study Of The Effect Of Various Organic Polar Groupings On Inhibiting The Corrosion Of Steel By Sulfuric Acid, Frank H. Stockhausen Jun 1940

A Study Of The Effect Of Various Organic Polar Groupings On Inhibiting The Corrosion Of Steel By Sulfuric Acid, Frank H. Stockhausen

Bachelors’ Theses

Much has been written on the testing of organic compounds to inhibit the sulfuric acid corrosion in the pickling of steel. For the most part, however, this has been confined to work either on commercial inhibitors which are usually coal tar derivatives of unknown composition, or upon complex amines or sulfonates with little attention paid to comparing the types of polar linkages. The emphasis has been placed on the complexity of molecular structure rather than a thorough analysis of what structure really means in inhibiting action.

The Separation And Identification Of The Solid Linseed Oil Fatty Acids By Fractional Crystallization Of Acetone, Albert J. Schlaeger May 1940

The Separation And Identification Of The Solid Linseed Oil Fatty Acids By Fractional Crystallization Of Acetone, Albert J. Schlaeger

Bachelors’ Theses

It Is surprising to note in the literature that oils and fats like linseed, tung, tea seed, soya bean and other oils although employed in the arts for many centuries still have their exact composition unknown. The fatty acids composing most of our common fats and oils are recognized but many of their properties still remain to be known. Up to the lat fifteen years the examination of oils was concerned only with the purity of a sample and with crude methods only rough compositions were calculated.

An Attempt To Correlate Certain Physical And Chemical Properties Of Various Commercial Animal Glues, Robert C. Andersen Jan 1940

An Attempt To Correlate Certain Physical And Chemical Properties Of Various Commercial Animal Glues, Robert C. Andersen

Bachelors’ Theses

The manufacture and use of glue involves many important industries, and up to recent times we, in America, have lost much by our old "rule of thumb" and traditional methods for testing glues. In recent times much work has been done on a strictly scientific basis to explain the actions of glue from both a colloidal and a physicochemical aspect.

This thesis is concerned in particular with the possibility of coordinating the different properties exhibited by the accepted glue tests so that a definite criterion might be postulated for a high-grade animal glue. This task, however, proved extremely difficult, for …

Fermentation Of Sugar Acids By Bacteria, Gordon B. Robbins, Keith H. Lewis Aug 1939

Fermentation Of Sugar Acids By Bacteria, Gordon B. Robbins, Keith H. Lewis

Department of Chemistry: Faculty Publications

Bacterial fermentation of the sugar acids has received little attention in comparison with the wide-spread use of the common aldoses and sugar alcohols. These acids, and especially their sodium salts, are well suited to bacteriological techniques because of their solubility and heat stability, yet their usefulness for investigating the relationship of chemical structure to biological utilization has only recently been recognized. Their application to systematic differentiation of bacteria has also been neglected.

Kendall, Bly and Haner (1923) concluded from a study of three monocarboxylic acids and three dicarboxylic acids that these compounds possessed little value for the differentiation of bacterial …

Remedial Work On The Division Of Decimals, M. Thomasine Schwind Jul 1939

Remedial Work On The Division Of Decimals, M. Thomasine Schwind

Bachelors’ Theses

The important element in remedial strategy is the reduction of the necessity for it. Prevent more, so as to have to cure less! In all learning and especially in the processes of arithmetic, our attack must be based upon a four-fold basis. Each is affected by the other three. Initial learning, maintenance, measurement and remedial work are the four components of efficiency. before remedial work can be carried out efficient testing must be done.

Viscosity Of Ethyl Cellulose In Various Binary Mixtures, Frank L. Tinetti May 1939

Viscosity Of Ethyl Cellulose In Various Binary Mixtures, Frank L. Tinetti

Bachelors’ Theses

Viscosity is that property of a fluid by which it resists continuous deformation, especially characteristic of thick liquids. It is also variously defined as the resistance experienced by one portion of a liquid in moving over another portion, or the "internal friction" of the liquid. This property is the reciprocal of "fluidity", which is the measure of the tendency of a liquid to flow.

A Study Of The Viscosity Of Gelatines, Mary Anthony Keller Aug 1938

A Study Of The Viscosity Of Gelatines, Mary Anthony Keller

Bachelors’ Theses

Only a casual perusal of the literature treating of enzymes impresses one with the importance of the subject. How could the process of digestion be carried on without the action of enzymes? The tanning industry is primarily concerned with so-called bates, which are enzymes. Other industrial ope.rations, such as brewing, the manufacture of glue, petroleum refining, the production of rubber and starch, are likewise largely dependent on enzymatic action. Another phase of enzyme activity turns to the prevention of disease and medical diagnosis.

Substrates are of no less importance. The present work is not so much a study of -enzymatic …
