Geology Of The South Half Of The Meramec Spring Quadrangle, Missouri, Howard Joseph Yorston Jan 1954

Geology Of The South Half Of The Meramec Spring Quadrangle, Missouri, Howard Joseph Yorston

Masters Theses

"This report is a continuation of the work initiated by Mueller in his mapping of the north half of the Meramec Spring Quadrangle. The completion of this work provides not only a geologic map of the whole quadrangle but also completes the mapping of the geology of a strip of quadrangles extending from Rolla to the Mississippi River. In addition to being a step closer to the goal of complete geologic coverage for the state, this work will be of value to those concerned with the prediction of depths of wells drilled in search for water, which in view of …

A Syllabus For A Course In Analytical Projective Geometry, Herbert Richard Warne

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Projective geometry: a boundless domain of countless fields where reals and imaginaries, finites and infinities, enter on equal terms, where the spirit delights in the artistic balance and symmeric interplay of a kind of conceptual and logical counterpoint, - an enchanted realm where thought is double and flows throughout in parallel stream.

Free Energy And Entropy Of Translation Tables, Paul W. Gilles, Gordon A. Gallup Dec 1953

Free Energy And Entropy Of Translation Tables, Paul W. Gilles, Gordon A. Gallup

Gordon Gallup Publications

In the statistical calculation of the thermodynamic properties of ideal gases the translational contribution is calculated from the Sackur-Tetrode equation, S = R1n (2π MkT)3/2 ÷ (h3 N5/2) V + 5/2 R in which S is the entropy of one mole of a gas of molecular weight M, at absolute temperature T, and volume V expressed in cubic centimeters; k is Boltzmann's constant; h is Planck's constant; N is Avogadro's number; and R is the molal gas constant expressed in the same units as those desired for S, usually cal deg1 mole1.

Studies In Quantitative Paleontology. Iii. An Application Of Sequential Analysis To The Comparison Of Growth Stages And Growth Series, Benjamin H. Burma

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications

Detailed directions for carrying out a comparison of characters of fossils by a sequential analysis are given. The method is adapted to comparison at a single growth stage and to the comparison of growth series. The method has the advantage of, in general, requiring fewer specimens than the classical methods of comparison.

A Colorimetric Coulometer, Clayton C. Roth Aug 1953

A Colorimetric Coulometer, Clayton C. Roth

Master's Theses

In the study of many electrochemical processes, such as, surface adsorption on electrodes, a simple, rapid, and relatively accurate coulometer that will measure .01 to 1.0 coulombs, would be extremely useful. This project was commenced to investigate the feasibility of an entirely different approach for coulometric analysis for application in this range.

This new type of coulometer utilizes a colorimeter for determining the amount of coulombs passed through coulometer cell. Consequently, any electrode process which of its own nature is color-producing, or a process which, in turn, can actuate a color indicator, is a potential reaction for this colorimetric couloumeter.

On The Continuity Of The Real Roots Of An Algebraic Equation, Melvin Henriksen, John R. Isbell Jun 1953

On The Continuity Of The Real Roots Of An Algebraic Equation, Melvin Henriksen, John R. Isbell

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

It is well known that the root of an algebraic equation is a continuous multiple-valued function of its coefficients [5, p. 3]. However, it is not necessarily true that a root can be given by a continuous single-valued function. A complete solution of this problem has long been known in the case where the coefficients are themselves polynomials in a complex variable [3, chap. V]. For most purposes the concept of the Riemann surface enables one to bypass the problem. However, in the study of the ideal structure of rings of continuous functions, the general problem must be met directly. …

The Construction And Operation Of A Universal Specimen Mount With Protective Lead Shield For The Purpose Of Determining Pole Figures Using The Schulz-Decker Transmission Technique, Richard L. Fausner Jun 1953

The Construction And Operation Of A Universal Specimen Mount With Protective Lead Shield For The Purpose Of Determining Pole Figures Using The Schulz-Decker Transmission Technique, Richard L. Fausner

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

It was the purpose of this study to construct a universal mount, to construct a protective lead shield, to operate the instrument, and to provide a pole figure using the transmission method of Schulz and Decker. There are at present several lengthy x-ray methods of determining the grain orientation of metals. These methods are mainly photographic. In order to provide a rapid means of obtaining the necessary information concerning the grain orientation of a metal, a universal mount was constructed.

The Indium-Mercury Constitutional Diagram, Bert E. Lake May 1953

The Indium-Mercury Constitutional Diagram, Bert E. Lake

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Whenever metals differ greatly in electropositivity, intermetallic compounds are likely to form in preference to solid solutions. 21ercury and indium show a considerable difference in electropositivity. This would indicate that intermetallic compounds may play an important role in the constitutional diagram for the mercury-indium system.
