Relationship Between Sleep Deprivation And Postpartum Depression, Janet Wagner
Relationship Between Sleep Deprivation And Postpartum Depression, Janet Wagner
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Postpartum depression was thought to be an important component of maternity blues and was the factor explored in this study. Sleep was hypothesized as a factor affecting either the occurrence or severity of postpartum depression. Hence, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep deprivation and postpartum depression.
Twenty patients were interviewed one to three weeks prior to their expected dates of delivery. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Depression scale was administered during the interview and each patient kept a record of her hours of sleep during the following week. Each patient again kept a record …
A Geochemical Study Of The Maquoketa Formation In Pike County, Missouri, John Siegfried Trapp
A Geochemical Study Of The Maquoketa Formation In Pike County, Missouri, John Siegfried Trapp
Masters Theses
"Statistical interpretation of geochemical data was used to determine the environment of deposition of the Maquoketa Formation in Pike County, Missouri. A cyclic sequence was noted which can be best explained by cyclic climatic changes. During the study it was found that elemental relationships which would be expected in a freshly deposited sediment can be found in core samples. In samples from outcrops and quarry faces these relationships have been destroyed. As these elemental relationships reflect mineralogical relationships, serious doubts have arisen as to the validity of petrographic studies of samples taken from outcrops. This study indicates weathering may be …
A Study Of Factors Which May Influence Attitudes Of Lds Teen-Agers Toward Family Home Evening, Don Leroy Miller
A Study Of Factors Which May Influence Attitudes Of Lds Teen-Agers Toward Family Home Evening, Don Leroy Miller
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to attitudes of teenagers toward the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hypotheses involving the relationships of certain factors to attitudes toward home evening were tested.
A cluster sample of twenty-three ninth grade classes was selected and data were gathered through use of a questionnaire. Statistics used in analysis of data included the Pearsonian product moment correlation coefficient, and analysis of variance. Responses to open-end questions were content analyzed by three independent judges.
Findings suggest that perceived participation by teenagers in planning and …

Usu Telemetering Precipitation Gage Network, C. Earl Israelsen, Don L. Griffin
Reports
A network of telemetering precipitation gages is operating in the mountainous areas of northern Utah, western Wyoming, and southern Idaho as part of the Wasatch Weather Modification Project. Approximately 40 individual gages collected and reported data during the 1968-69 winter season from distances up to 130 miles. In addition to the remotely located gages, the system includes an Automatic Readout Console (ARC) at the Utah Water Research Laboratory that is connected by a cable to a translator on top of Mt. Logan. The ARC is the control center for the network, interrogating in a predetermined programmed sequence the remote telemetry …

Radiative Lifetime Of The B¹Σ⁺ And B³Σ⁺ States Of Carbon Monoxide, John Robert Rogers
Radiative Lifetime Of The B¹Σ⁺ And B³Σ⁺ States Of Carbon Monoxide, John Robert Rogers
Doctoral Dissertations
"The radiative lifetimes of the B¹Σ⁺ and b³Σ⁺ excited states of carbon monoxide were measured at six different pressures: 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 125 microns of Hg. The lifetimes were obtained by observation of the radiative decay of the (0,0), (0,1), (0,2), and (1,1) bands of the Angstrom system and the radiative decay of the (0,1), (0,2), (0,3), and (0,4) bands of the Third Positive system. No pressure dependence of the lifetimes was observed for either system. The average lifetime of the v' = 0 vibrational level of the B¹Σ⁺ state was found to be 24.4 x 10⁻⁹ …
The Background Concentrations Of Copper, Lead, And Zinc In Streams Of The "New Lead Belt", Missouri, Nicholas Howard Tibbs
The Background Concentrations Of Copper, Lead, And Zinc In Streams Of The "New Lead Belt", Missouri, Nicholas Howard Tibbs
Masters Theses
"This study was initiated to determine the background concentrations of copper, lead, and zinc in the streams of the Viburnum Trend or New Lead Belt of southeast Missouri. Analytical methods were developed for atomic adsorption spectroscopy. These methods initially consisted of coextraction of cooper, lead, and zinc using the APDC/MIBK system, and finally of extraction of copper by APDC/MIBK and direct analysis of lead and zinc using the newly developed "Sampling Boat" technique. The data obtained from these analyses were arranged in histograms and critically analyzed. The background concentrations were established to be 4-6 ppb for all three elements. Methods …

Stratigraphy And Economic Geology Of Uranium-Bearing Sediments In The Poison Spider District, Natrona County, Wyoming, Carlos Enrique Reijenstein D'Acierno
Masters Theses
"Geologic, stratigraphic, and mineralogic characteristics of the Eocene Wind River and Oligocene White River Formations were determined for the southern portion of the Poison Spider District, Natrona County, Wyoming. Sieve analysis and heavy mineral techniques were used to recognize stratigraphic units, determine their environment of deposition, obtain a better knowledge of the grain size distribution, and to identify a possible source area for the sediments. Particular emphasis was concentrated on the evaluation and interpretation of the available geophysical data (gamma ray and resistivity logs), and geological information which had led to the establishment of several relationships between the local geology …
Ionic Transport In Potassium Chloride, Robert Fuller, Charles L. Marquardt, Michael H. Reilly, John C. Wells Jr.
Ionic Transport In Potassium Chloride, Robert Fuller, Charles L. Marquardt, Michael H. Reilly, John C. Wells Jr.
Robert G. Fuller Publications
The electrical conductivity and chlorine ion diffusion in KC1 and KCl:SrC12 single crystals have been analyzed by least-squares methods, using as a model a perfect crystal perturbed by five defects: isolated anion vacancies, isolated cation vacancies, divalent cation impurities, divalent cation-impurity-cation-vacancy complexes, and vacancy pairs. The transport equations were derived from this five-defect model using a simple theory for noninteracting particles, except for the nearest-neighbor binding to form complexes and vacancy pairs, and using the same theory including long-range Coulomb interactions between the isolated defects. This latter theory yielded the better description of the experimental results. However, the analyses …

Rotational Excitation Of Polar Molecules By Electrons, Marvin H. Mittleman, Jerry Peacher, Balazs F. Rozsnyai
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
Rotational excitation of polar molecules is calculated in the approximation that the electron transit time is short compared with rotational periods with the result of an E-1 behavior of the cross section. Diffusion cross sections are calculated for Δl=0,1,2. Significant corrections to the Born approximation are obtained for large dipole moments. The range (in energy) of applicability of the result is discussed in terms of the energy dependence of the corrections, and a novel energy dependence of these corrections is encountered and explained.

Precision Measurement Of The Electronic G Factors Of The Alkali Metals, Paul A. Vanden Bout, Erol Aygun, Vernon J. Ehlers, Tuncay Incesu
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
We have measured the ratios of the electronic g factors of Na23, Rb85,87, and Cs133 to that of K39, using the atomic-beam magnetic-resonance technique. The results are gJ(Na23)gJ(K39)=1.0000007 (2), gJ(Rb85,87)gJ(K39)=1.0000182 (2), and gJ(Cs1333)gJ(K39)=1.0001231 (3). These results, combined with the results of other researchers, yield the following absolute g factors for the alkali metals: gJ(Na)=-2.002297 (2), gJ(K)=-2.002295 (2), gJ(Rb)=-2.002332 (2), and gJ(Cs)=-2.002542 (2). These g factors, with the exception of the value for Cs, are in good agreement with theoretical values.

Status Of Starlicide, Philip J. Spear
Status Of Starlicide, Philip J. Spear
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
Starlicide is described as a slow-acting avicide for the control of starlings and blackbirds around livestock and poultry operations. The active ingredient is 3 -chloro-p-toluidine hydrochloride which has been identified by the Denver Re-search Center of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as DRC-1339. A casual review of information about this bird control material suggests the following paradoxes: The use of the chemical in bird control appears to be covered by a patent, but the licensor wishes to remain anonymous. The licensee, which produces and sells the commercial material, seems unwilling to discuss the product. Let me hasten to point …
Significance And Control Of Fungal Diseases Related To Bird Roosts, Robert J. Weeks
Significance And Control Of Fungal Diseases Related To Bird Roosts, Robert J. Weeks
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
Certain fungi have been found frequently as saprophytes in areas containing large amounts of bird excreta. These fungi have the ability to survive, multiply, and cause disease once they have entered a host. Two of these are Crypto-coccus neoformans and Histoplasma capsulatum. Both may easily become airborne and be disseminated throughout an area by the prevailing winds. C. neo-formans is commonly isolated from the excreta of pigeon habitats, and in turn has been associated with clinical cases of cryptococcosis, while blackbird roosts, harboring H. capsulatum, have been responsible for several outbreaks of histoplasmosis. When either of these fungi have become …

When Dr. Jackson called me to speak on the rights of the individual I told him he probably had the wrong person because I am an individual and I believe my company is an organization very prone to say "what is, is and you've got to go on with it." If I'd have heard some of the talks here today before he called me, I wouldn't be here at all, because I'm not sure what individual rights there are left! So let me change this thing around a little bit and state that instead of speaking of the rights of …
New Materials For Bird Control, John W. Degrazio, Philip J. Spear
New Materials For Bird Control, John W. Degrazio, Philip J. Spear
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
A variety of methods is necessary to solve the many bird damage problems that occur in agriculture and other fields of interest. It is apparent that no one method can be used to provide answers for all damage situations; each problem and problem area is unique and requires thorough knowledge and investigation before intelligent measures of bird control can be applied. Thus, basic research in the laboratory and initial field studies are necessary to arrive at the most safe, efficient, and economical method of bird damage control possible for each situa-tion. The use of chemicals for damage control is one …

Concluding Remarks: Fourth Bird Control Seminar, William B. Jackson
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
I had three basic ideas. One: that we were talking about bird management, not bird control. This is a recurrent theme through all four of our conferences I think. We're saying secondly that spot control, taking care of this problem at this place with this specific technique, is important and we need more tools; but we need to look at the larger aspect of the environment, the population, and its relationship—an ecological approach. Thirdly, communication, whether it be with the general public or specific interest groups or among this group of professionals involved in bird management, is important; and we …

A Conservation Department Approach To Environmental Contamination And Surveillance Problems, Leroy J. Korschgen
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
Historically, the Conservation Commission has allied itself with other state, federal, and private agencies that are concerned with control and management of wildlife. It was suggested about a year ago that a Memorandum of Understanding, specifying the policy and procedure for bird control and rat and mouse control by the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife in Missouri, would be desirable. Subsequent discussion with Bureau representatives led to the conclusion that a formal memorandum of understanding was unnecessary. The primary purpose of such documents is to formalize operating procedures in states where the Bureau carries on a continuous control program …

In talking with the panel that has agreed to be with you this morning, we find that almost to a man they feel very strongly there is no "it" in bird control, that a good applicator needs to be well balanced and well rounded, that he needs to know, far more than one approach, that he needs to be able to understand people, biological problems, ecology, eco-nomics, and several other factors. The idea that sometimes comes across in meetings such as this is, and rightly so in some instances, "I have the final answer." Gentlemen, there is no "it" in …

Status Of Bio-Sonics In Pest Bird Control, Gordon W. Boudreau
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
Bioacoustics is defined as the study of biologically significant sounds ori-ginated by animals, and the mechanisms which produce and receive these sounds. Many of these sounds are audible to the human ear but some are above the human hearing range and fall into the ultrasonics class. There are sounds used by animals which are near or below the normal human hearing range in pitch, as in certain fish. Bioacoustics comprises a broad field of investigation and is an area which has only recently been explored. Improvements in electronic audio equipment have provided the impetus which launched recent bioacoustical investigations and …
Chemical Bird Control: Idealism And Reality, James B. Elder
Chemical Bird Control: Idealism And Reality, James B. Elder
Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
Budding wildlife biologists, whether they wind up in research, management or administration, start out with one attribute in common. They are idealists. It is idealism to be sure, that quickly becomes tempered, if not blunted, by the realities of working for worthwhile, even essential conservation goals in an in-different and frequently hostile environment. For some, the conflict of ideals vs reality is too much and they move on to other, probably more lucrative occupations. Still others, blessedly few in number, lose their ideals completely, become apathetic toward wildlife goals and devolve into that most pitiable of human specimens, the bureaucratic …

I'd like to open with a very brief discussion, then call on some selected people with whom I've corresponded earlier, and ask if they will discuss a particular aspect of this total bird problem. I've asked that they keep their comments from three to five minutes. Trying to break the total problem down into its several facets we came up with six arbitrary subtopics. For want of better terms I've called these: population census techniques, chemical repellants, sonic repellants, wetting agents, lethal control techni-ques, and damage evaluation. Your particular problem in your area may be slightly different than in other …
