Senolytic drugs, of the class of polyphenolic flavonoids, have attracted attention for a wide variety of medical applications for which they may be delivered topically, orally, and/or intravenously. However, due to their hydrophobicity and sensitivity to light and oxygen, they have been proven difficult to package and deliver. Here we report a synthesis method for encapsulated fisetin using lecithin-chitosan ionic gelation with a recently reported surfactant that is an alternative to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-containing compounds. Called “Savie” for a contraction of its components, sarcosine-Vitamin E, this surfactant allows for production of sub-100 nm nanoparticles that are bench stable for at …

The Lower Passaic River (LPR), located within the New York/New Jersey Harbor Estuarine System, has experienced long-term industrial activities, resulting in elevated concentrations of trace metals in sediment and water. This study aims to assess the bioaccumulation behavior, potential human health risks, and sources of copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and mercury (Hg) in the LPR. Trace metal concentrations were measured in water, sediment, and seven edible aquatic species. Data were analyzed using statistical approaches, and evaluated by bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) and human health risk assessments based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) guidelines. Results showed that Hg exhibited the highest …

Retaining The Herd: Habitat Restoration Efforts Increase Patch Retention Times In Mule Deer, Jack Rasmussen
Browse all Datasets
Across much of their range, and the State of Utah, mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) populations have been declining. Declines in herd numbers can be attributed to alterations to historic habitats through the introduction of exotic annual grasses and the encroachment of pinyon-juniper forests on sagebrush ecosystems, changing resource availability. To combat habitat alterations, the Utah Department of Natural Resources has implemented various habitat restoration treatments through the Watershed Restoration Initiative , broadly to remove exotic species and decrease pinyon juniper woodland encroachment. We investigated how mule deer patch retention times differ on eight different habitat restoration treatment types during summer …

Several machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods have been used to predict the presence of species in classification problems. Another set of methods, called reinforcement learning (RL), has been used in training agents to perform various tasks, but not in predicting species distribution. Culex pipiens (Diptera: Culicidae), commonly known as the common house mosquito, is a globally distributed species prevalent in temperate and subtropical regions. They serve as a primary vector for West Nile Virus (WNV), a mosquito-borne pathogen that affects humans and other animals. The study objective is to compare the performance of logistic regression, random forest …

Postmortem Vitreous Humor As An Alternative Matrix To Peripheral Blood For Benzodiazepine Detection, Sara Bussey
Postmortem Vitreous Humor As An Alternative Matrix To Peripheral Blood For Benzodiazepine Detection, Sara Bussey
Honors Theses
Benzodiazepines are commonly prescribed secondary drugs of abuse that cause Central Nervous System depression through the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid. While not commonly fatal on their own, benzodiazepines have a minor risk for physical dependence and abuse. They also can have cumulative effects with other medications that can lead to overdose situations; thus, they are considered secondary drugs of abuse. While peripheral blood is considered the standard for xenobiotic detection in postmortem forensic toxicology, it is important to consider the validity of alternative matrices that could be analyzed in the event that blood was not available due to circumstances like …

Correcting Class Imbalance Through Synthetic Training Data And 3d Modeling For Carabid Pitfall Trap Sampling, Blair Mirka
Geography ETDs
Crowdsourced biodiversity data provide an accessible foundation for large-scale ecological monitoring, but class imbalance limits automated species identification, particularly for rare taxa. This research explores the use of synthetic training data generated from 3D models of carabid beetle museum specimens to improve detection and classification performance for underrepresented species in crowdsourced datasets. High-resolution 3D models were created to simulate variation in lighting, orientation, and background. These synthetic images were incorporated into convolutional neural network training datasets at varying synthetic-to-real ratios to assess their impact on classification accuracy. Models were evaluated using controlled pitfall-trap imagery to examine the influence of scene …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems face significant challenges in processing and analyzing datasets characterized by high degrees of uncertainty, ambiguity, and indeterminacy, which are prevalent features in complex real-world scenarios. To address this limitation, this study introduces a novel neutrosophic graded Jordan–bialgebra framework. This framework strategically integrates the inherent structural properties of Jordan–Bialgebras with the advanced capability of Neutrosophic Graded Structures to simultaneously model degrees of truth, indeterminacy, and falsehood. The primary objective of this study is to establish a rigorous algebraic foundation that enables AI models to perform a more robust and comprehensive analysis of data containing incomplete or …

Comprehensive Risk Evaluation Framework For Reducing Errors In Critical Airport Systems, Arshad Hameed, Muhammad Umer Farooq
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Airports are intricate systems that are subject to a number of operational hazards that might impair safety and cause service interruptions. There is a dearth of thorough approaches designed specifically for airport operations, despite a wealth of research on risk management in several industries. In order to anticipate and prevent breakdowns in vital airport systems, we offer a thorough risk assessment approach that combines quantitative evaluation and human factor analysis. This study uses the decision-making methodology such as MARCOS method to rank the alternatives. The criteria weights are computed in this study. This study uses six criteria and 14 alternatives.

Evaluating Solar Energy Challenges And Strategies To Overcome Challenges Under Neutrosophic Decision Making Methodology, Ahmed A El-Douh, Mina Samir Shenouda
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Because of its reliance on fossil fuels and fast population expansion, the nation confronts severe socioeconomic problems that can result in political instability, environmental damage, health issues, and economic instability. A switch to clean energy is now necessary as a result of these problems widening the gap between supply and demand for energy. To close this gap, photovoltaic (PV) technology holds great potential. In order to reduce bias and handle ambiguity while assessing solar energy (SE) issues and regulations, this study offers a decision-making process in a single valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) environment. The neutrosophic set is used to overcome …

Integrated Neutrosophic Set For Assessing The Route Options In Overweight Complex Transportation Planning Scenarios, Muhammad Abid, Tayyaba Akhtar, Harshit Bhatt
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Due to improvements in lifting and transportation technology that enable the long-distance movement of heavy loads, overweight and oversized transport (O&OT) has emerged as one of the most important aspects of project logistics. This kind of transportation operation, also known as abnormal transportation, is heavily influenced by external variables like weather, traffic density, and legal regulations, as well as technical factors like the load’s weight and geometry, road surface, axle load limitations, slope, and ground strength. Decision-Makers (DMs) and practitioners who plan and carry out operations without giving these variables and factors enough thought may cause operational delays, significant hazards, …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
This study proposes a methodological framework for Evaluation of Integrating Smart Technologies into Business Ecosystems. We use the decision-making process to deal with different criteria and alternatives. The decision-making process is used under the neutrosophic set to overcome uncertainty information. Neutrosophic set has three membership functions such as truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. These functions are used to overcome vague information. The average method is used to compute the criteria weights. The COBRA method is used to rank the alternatives based on different alternatives. This study uses 8 criteria and 15 alternatives to be evaluated to show the best option.

Augmented Reality-Assisted E-Module On Temperature Andheat Content (Emarks), Tetri Sabrina, Ika Mustika Sari, Dedi Sasmita
Jurnal Pendidikan Sains
Temperature and heat content (calor) material in physics often involves concepts and phenomena that are difficult to observe directly or are abstract (such as energy transfer, particle movement, and changes in state). EMARKS (AR-based E-modules) are important because Augmented Reality (AR) allows the visualization of these abstract concepts in the form of interactive 3D models in the user's real environment. This helps students understand the concepts more concretely and easily. The development of E-modules is an innovation in learning media that is relevant to the demands of the digital era and the needs of modern students. The use of advanced …

Witnessing A Wounded World: A Theology Of Ecological Trauma, Timothy A. Middleton
Theology
A crucial intervention at the intersection of ecotheology and trauma theology
We are in the midst of a global ecological crisis. At times, the scale of the suffering involved can be hard to fully comprehend. The whole planetary ecosystem feels out of kilter. Meanwhile, trauma theorists, and society at large, have become increasingly aware of the incidence of trauma in a growing variety of contexts. In Witnessing a Wounded World, Timothy Middleton asks what might be gained by viewing ecological suffering through the lens of trauma.
By bringing concepts and methodologies from trauma theology to bear on questions that …

Elucidating The Relationship Between Water Quality And Antibiotic Resistance Of Rainwater Microbes Across Western Humboldt County, Theo P. Murphy, Eve Wendley, Justice Laskowski, Tyler Paredes
Humboldt Journal of Microbiology
Limited studies have been conducted regarding the fecal contamination and microbial dispersal through rainwater, with no known studies investigating the potential connection between antibiotic resistant microbes and water quality in rainwater. This study seeks to identify the presence of a correlation between water quality and incidence of antibiotic resistance in rainwater microbes. We hypothesize that there will be a correlation between these two variables. We additionally anticipate a high incidence of fecal contamination across rural and urban collection sites alike, with fecal contamination being more prevalent in rural areas than urban locals. To determine water quality, we measured the concentration …

Determining The 17f(Α,P)20ne Reaction Rate For Application In Type I X-Ray Bursts, William Braverman
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The 17F(α, p)20Ne reaction has been identified as an alternate pathway for breakout from the hot-CNO cycle that can be important in some X-ray burst scenarios. The 17F(α, p)20Ne reaction rate was previously determined through a parameterized exponential S-factor with a large enhancement from thermally-excited states based on statistical models with large uncertainties. We have measured the time-inverse 20Ne(p,α)17F cross section at center-of-mass energies ranging from 5.50 to 7.10 MeV using an activation method with a proton beam on a neon gas cell. Coincident detections of 511-keV γ-rays, resulting from electron-positron …
