>Mechanical properties of polymer composites with dispersed nanoparticles (CDNP) depend on interaction between the nanoparticles and the polymer matrix. Strength of polymer composites significantly decreases when there is no interaction between dispersed nanoparticles and the polymer. This limits the application of functional polymer composites with dispersed nanoparticles. In this study, CDNP based on ED-20 epoxy resin with dispersed copper oxide nanoparticles was obtained. These nanoparticles were synthesized in epoxy resin before curing: the nanoparticles were obtained by decomposition of copper hydroxide by heating its solution in ED-20 resin. The kinetics of copper oxide nanoparticles formation in CDNP samples were studied using two …

Evaluation Of Photochemically Cross-Linked Collagen/Gold Nanoparticle Composites As Potential Skin Tissue Scaffolds, Evri̇m Meri̇ç Yelkuvan, Özge Erdemli̇, Bengi̇ Yilmaz, Ömer Aktürk

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Collagen type I is the main structural unit in skin tissue and is therefore used preferentially in skin tissue scaffolds. However, collagen-based 3D scaffolds have weak aqueous stability and degradation profiles in their uncross-linked states and chemical cross-linking reagents arise toxicity concerns, which generally restrict the spectrum of their biomedical applicability. Here, the research goal is to photochemically cross-link collagen type I with rose bengal (RB) when subjected to green laser light and to investigate the effect of silk sericin-capped gold nanoparticles (S-AuNP) when incorporated into scaffolds on the cross-linking process and thus on the scaffold properties. All the collagen …

A Fused Data Based Real-Time Collision Warning System For Ferries In The Yangtze River, Xiaojia Liu, Ke Zhang, Han Xue, Yingtang Li

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

The risks for ferries in the Yangtze River are relatively high, as they frequently cross the main traffic flows, leading to more intersections with other upwards and downwards ships. Although some studies have developed many models to assess collision risks in the Yangtze River, collision warning studies on ferries are scant. Meanwhile, most of the current collision studies evaluate risk based on AIS data, which are incapable of providing real-time ship information as they are discrete-time series data. In this work, fused data combining radar and AIS data are applied in a real-time ship collision warning model to assess the …

Reviving Knowledges Through Play And Resistance: The Case Of Navajo Conceptions Of Space, Daniel Ness, Richard D. Sawyer Nov 2022

Reviving Knowledges Through Play And Resistance: The Case Of Navajo Conceptions Of Space, Daniel Ness, Richard D. Sawyer

Northwest Journal of Teacher Education

The authors explore a possible cause of epistemicidal predispositions of the dominant Eurocentric curricula. They posit that one way to determine a plausible contributing factor of this increasing devastation is to consider epistemicide through the lens of intellectual development. To do this, the authors examine parallel patterns of behavior in the domains of developmental and cognitive psychology. The authors then discuss an alternative framework to the Western conception of space within formal K-12 education by presenting the Navajo conception of space and play. Throughout the paper, the authors argue that all students—and especially those living in poverty in commercially constructed, …
