Confirmative Evaluation: New Cipp Evaluation Model, Tia L. Finney

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Struggling trainees often require a substantial investment of time, effort, and resources from medical educators. An emergent challenge involves developing effective ways to accurately identify struggling students and better understand the primary causal factors underlying their poor performance. Identifying the potential reasons for poor performance in medical school is a key first step in developing suitable remediation plans. The SOM Modified Program is a remediation program that aims to ensure academic success for medical students. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of modifying the CIPP evaluation model by adding a confirmative evaluation step to the model. …

Jmasm 54: A Comparison Of Four Different Estimation Approaches For Prognostic Survival Oral Cancer Model, Wan Muhamad Amir, Muhammad Azeem, Masitah Hayati Harun, Zalila Ali, Mohamad Shafiq

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Four types of estimation approaches for prognostic survival oral cancer model building are considered via a SAS algorithm: Efron’s Method, Exact Method, Breslow’s Method, and Discrete Method. Each method is illustrated separately and compared according to their coefficient parameter. An approach is considered by adding a bootstrapping technique for each handling ties method and a complete SAS algorithm is supplied for each proposed method, including methods for handling ties.

Bayesian Analysis Of Extended Cox Model With Time-Varying Covariates Using Bootstrap Prior, Oyebayo R. Olaniran, Mohd Asrul A. Abdullah

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A new Bayesian estimation procedure for extended cox model with time varying covariate was presented. The prior was determined using bootstrapping technique within the framework of parametric empirical Bayes. The efficiency of the proposed method was observed using Monte Carlo simulation of extended Cox model with time varying covariates under varying scenarios. Validity of the proposed method was also ascertained using real life data set of Stanford heart transplant. Comparison of the proposed method with its competitor established appreciable supremacy of the method.

Modeling Insurance Claims Using Flexible Skewed And Mixture Probability Distributions, Aaron J. Leinwander, Mohammad A. Aziz Jun 2018

Modeling Insurance Claims Using Flexible Skewed And Mixture Probability Distributions, Aaron J. Leinwander, Mohammad A. Aziz

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The normal distribution comes as a first choice when fitting real data, but it may not be suitable if the assumed distribution deviates from normality. Flexible skewed distributions are capable of including skewness and taking into account multimodality. They may be applied to find appropriate distributions for describing the claim amounts in insurance. The objective is to model insurance claims using a set of flexible skewed and mixture probability distributions, and to test how well they fit the claims. Results indicate the skew-t distribution and alpha-skew Laplace distribution are able to describe unimodal claims accurately, whereas scale mixture of …

Inferential Procedures For Log Logistic Distribution With Doubly Interval Censored Data, Yue Fang Loh, Jayanthi Arasan, Habshah Midi, M. R. Abu Bakar Dec 2017

Inferential Procedures For Log Logistic Distribution With Doubly Interval Censored Data, Yue Fang Loh, Jayanthi Arasan, Habshah Midi, M. R. Abu Bakar

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The log logistic model with doubly interval censored data is examined. Three methods of constructing confidence interval estimates for the parameter of the model were compared and discussed. The results of the coverage probability study indicated that the Wald outperformed the likelihood ratio and jackknife inferential procedures.

A Comparison Of Different Methods Of Zero-Inflated Data Analysis And An Application In Health Surveys, Si Yang, Lisa L. Harlow, Gavino Puggioni, Colleen A. Redding May 2017

A Comparison Of Different Methods Of Zero-Inflated Data Analysis And An Application In Health Surveys, Si Yang, Lisa L. Harlow, Gavino Puggioni, Colleen A. Redding

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The performance of several models under different conditions of zero-inflation and dispersion are evaluated. Results from simulated and real data showed that the zero-altered or zero-inflated negative binomial model were preferred over others (e.g., ordinary least-squares regression with log-transformed outcome, Poisson model) when data have excessive zeros and over-dispersion.

Comparison Of Some Multivariate Nonparametric Tests In Profile Analysis To Repeated Measurements, Mehrdad Vossoughi, Shila Shahvali, Erfan Sadeghi Nov 2016

Comparison Of Some Multivariate Nonparametric Tests In Profile Analysis To Repeated Measurements, Mehrdad Vossoughi, Shila Shahvali, Erfan Sadeghi

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Through Monte Carlo simulations, the performance of six multivariate nonparametric tests for testing the hypothesis of parallelism in profile analysis was studied. In conclusion, the tests based on ranks were as efficient as Hotelling's T2 under multivariate normal distribution. For the heavy tailed distribution, the tests based on signs performed best.
