Purpose: The current research was conducted to assess KLK3 at molecular and protein level in AB and OKC to shed more light on its role on biologic behaviour of these lesions. Material and methods: 30 paraffin embedded blocks of AB, OKC and Dentigerous Cyst (DC) as a control were included. Immunohistochemical staining technique with KLK3 antibody was applied to all the tissue blocks and RT-PCR KLK3 gene were done for all specimens. Results: The mean area percent of KLK3 expression was significantly greater in AB and OKC compared with DC. According to the current study, presence of significant difference between …

Purpose: Was to compare between the interocclusal record for protrusive movement, the tracing method and the electronic face bow (Arcus Digma) for recording horizontal condylar guidance and their effects on bilateral balanced occlusion. Material and methods: Ten completely edentulous patients with an average age of 55 years old participated in this study. Each patient received upper and lower complete denture, artificial teeth were arranged according to balanced occlusion concept. The horizontal condylar angle was recorded during patient mandibular protrusion of 6mm using the following techniques; interocclusal record, tracer (quick set analyzer) and electronic face bow (Arcus Digma II). Results: The …

Purpose: to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of two biological approaches (Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Technique (SMART) and Hall Technique (HT)) versus the conventional approach for caries management in primary molars. Materials and Methods: A total of 90 healthy children ranging from 4 -8 years old of both sexes, were selected for this study after they met inclusion criteria. The patients were allocated to one of three groups, thirty patients for each group. The follow up periods were 1, 3 and 6 months for clinical evaluation. Periapical radiographs were taken at 1, 3 and 6 months recall visits. Results: …

Comparative Color Stability Assessment Of One- Shaded Structurally-Colored And Conventional Multi-Shaded Resin Composites, Eman Ezz, Doaa El-Sharkawy, Samaa Zaghloul
Al-Azhar Journal of Dentistry
ABSTRACT Purpose: To assess the color stability of one- shaded structurally- colored resin composite compared to conventional multi- shaded one. Subjects and methods: Thirty- two disc- like specimens from one- shaded structurally- colored resin composite (Omnichroma, Tokuyama Dental); Group I, or conventional resin composite (Filtek Z350, 3M ESPE); Group II were prepared, with equal allocation ratio (i.e.: n= 16). Samples were left in coffee then by using spectrophotometry, colors for all specimens were assessed in (CIE) Lab values; before (baseline) and 30 days later. Substitution in the (after - before) equation was performed to obtain the color change (ΔE); to …

Al-Azhar Journal of Dentistry
Purpose: The present study aimed to examine serum cortisol concentrations and salivary immunoglobulin A (S-IgA) levels under psychological stress during the COVID-19 virus threat and its relationship to periodontal condition. Materials and methods: A total of 30 participants who had particularly high scores on the perceived stress scale (PSS) were involved in this study. Psychological stress was assessed via the PSS questionnaire. The Clinical periodontal evaluation included assessment of gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment level (CAL). Biochemical quantification of serum cortisol concentrations and S-IgA levels was performed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays method (ELIZA). Every step …

Al-Azhar Journal of Dentistry
Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the synergistic antimicrobial effects of chitosan with chlorhexidine, silver, and propolis in human saliva. Materials and method: High and low concentrations of chitosan solution were prepared and added to the chlorhexidine solution, silver nitrate, and propolis extract. Antimicrobial testing was performed using colony-forming units (CFU) and disc diffusion tests with chitosan solution in both concentrations as a positive control. Biofilms containing Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) were grown on 56 enamel blocks and subjected to the treatment solutions then diluted and grown on specific S. mutans media for colony counting. …

Staff Matters: I-9 Forms: What Every Employer Needs To Know, Jodi Schafer Sphr, Shrm-Scp
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
The I-9 form, mandated by the federal government, is essential for all employers, including dental practices. It verifies an employee's eligibility to work in the United States and is applicable to all employee types. Employees must provide documents like a Social Security card, passport, or driver's license for inspection within three days of hire. These forms should be retained for one-year post-employment or three years post-hire. Due to COVID-19, virtual document examination is temporarily allowed, extended until July 31, 2023. Non-compliance can result in costly fines, making regular internal audits advisable for practice adherence.
