Lived Experiences, Perceptions, And Caregiving Trajectories Of Family Caregivers Of Youth With Substance Use Disorders (Suds) In Zambia, Ireen Manase Kabembo
Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)
There is unequivocal evidence that family caregivers contribute to healthcare systems worldwide by providing care for persons with chronic illnesses in the home setting. his study explores the lived experiences, perceptions, and caregiving trajectories of 30 family caregivers of youth aged 16-24 diagnosed with Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) in Zambia. Data was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, a caregiving timeline, and participant observation and analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Guided by the integrated theoretical framework of positioning theory and the theory of caregiving dynamics, this study offers a new lens for understanding caregiver’s experiences regarding caregiver identity, self-perceptions, interpersonal relationships, …

Impact Of Preceptorship And Mentoring On New Nurse Resilience, Dianna Marie Lundrigan Garza
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Healthcare organizations continue to have difficulties retaining healthcare staff. Administrations spend significant amounts of time and money to incentivize new nurses to join their organizations with mixed results for both acute and long-term care units. Preceptorship or mentorship has been identified as having an impact on increasing positivity and resilience in new nurses. This paper examined prior research to identify trends and patterns in findings regarding this topic. Research of databases was conducted to identify common topics regarding resilience and retention of new nurses. Data supported having preceptors who receive training in teaching methods, communication, and support of new nurses. …
The Pause: Impacting Moral Distress In Our Caregivers, An Integrative Review, Bethany Corinne Furman
The Pause: Impacting Moral Distress In Our Caregivers, An Integrative Review, Bethany Corinne Furman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Moral distress is endemic to healthcare in the emerging post-covid era. Moral distress is defined as the knowledge of the correct or ethical action but the repeated inability to act in that manner. First studied in nursing, it has been found in nearly every facet of healthcare and is strongly associated with clinician burnout, intent to leave position, and behaviors that can in turn compromise patient safety. Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses experience moral distress at higher rates than other subspecialties. Prevention of and recovery from moral distress is complex, but various forms of debriefing have long been suggested to …
Implementation Of A Nursing Care Bundle For Hospitalized Patients Receiving End-Of-Life Care, Klaire Thomason
Implementation Of A Nursing Care Bundle For Hospitalized Patients Receiving End-Of-Life Care, Klaire Thomason
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A significant number of patients die in the hospital. Family-centered nursing care interventions are critically important to help ease the physical, social, spiritual, and emotional symptoms that patients may experience at the end of life. Despite the importance of the nurse’s role in delivering comprehensive end-of-life care, many nurses lack the knowledge and confidence necessary to implement evidence-based interventions. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing care bundle on increasing nurses’ self-perceived ability to deliver high-quality end-of-life care to patients in the inpatient setting. For this pilot study, an evidence-based Comfort Care Nursing Bundle …

The Future Of Nursing Leadership: Incorporating E-Learned Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Pathways With A Precautionary Focus On Patient-Centered-Care, Jamie Anne Marcus Dr., Bonnette Villalba Webb
FDLA Journal
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a data-driven mathematical process that incorporates machine-based-logic, usually in the form of algorithms. Education, training, and competencies are now conducted through virtual reality, robotics, simulation, and technology learning-based-platforms by healthcare organizations. This represents a significant change in the future of nursing practice. The adaptability of technology-based-learning platforms can impact the quality and efficiency of learning for some of the workforce population. Nurses' perception of technology and AI-driven nursing practice may vary based on generational orientation and can be a potential barrier to learning, practicing, and adaptability of this framework. The forging of well-trained resilient nurse leaders …
Relationship Between Health Education Systems Incorporated Admission Assessment Scores And Student Completion Of A Baccalaureate Nursing Program, Colleen Peace
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Math, reading, and vocabulary comprehension are important skills needed to ensure nursing students have a solid foundation on which to develop critical thinking skills to complete a nursing program. One of the common preadmission standardized tests is the Health Education Systems Incorporated Admission Assessment (HESI A2), but little research had been conducted to determine whether there is a correlation between the score on the HESI A2 and readiness to master nursing courses at the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) level and completion of the BSN program. The purposes of this quantitative retrospective study, guided by Jeffreys’s nursing undergraduate retention …
Decreasing Anxiety During Nursing Skills Evaluation In First-Semester Nursing Students, Terri Davis
Decreasing Anxiety During Nursing Skills Evaluation In First-Semester Nursing Students, Terri Davis
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Nursing students experience moderate to severe anxiety related to the rigor of nursing programs. Anxiety often leads to poor performance on exams and skills evaluations. When anxiety is not limited, it can contribute to nursing students being unable to progress in the nursing program and high attrition rates. The National League of Nursing (2021) estimates the attrition rate for nursing students in the United States at 20%. Attrition rates for associate degree programs are even greater and estimated to be around 50% (Kubec, 2017, as cited in Priode et al., 2020). This DNP quality improvement project looks to examine the …

The Effectiveness Of Pressure Injury Prevention Through Educational Intervention Within The Long-Term Care Setting, Ashley Nunley
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The prevalence of pressure injuries, particularly in older adults, continues to be disturbingly high, especially in those suffering from chronic diseases and frailty, bringing a higher awareness of applied preventive and therapeutic measures (Jaul et al., 2019). In long-term care nurses, will an educational, evidenced-based pressure ulcer prevention program impact health outcomes by increasing nurses’ knowledge, compared to no intervention over four weeks? The Pieper-Zulkowski Pressure Ulcer/Injuries Knowledge Test was used to evaluate the nurse's pressure injury knowledge pre- and post-educational intervention. The paired t-test was used to analyze the pre-and post-test data from the educational intervention. This DNP project …

Abstract
Migraine headaches are ranked as one of the highest disabling conditions in the United States. Women who are in the perimenopausal transition phase have a higher prevalence of disabling migraines that can result in a decreased quality of life, loss of income, decreased productivity, and a higher risk for emotional difficulties. The gap in practice is the lack of education on complementary alternative medicine (CAM) and the use of a migraine diary to recognize individual symptoms as a substitute or cotherapy with pharmacologic treatments. The purpose of this scholarly project was to improve clinical practice and outcomes for perimenopausal …
