Instrumental Support: A Conceptual Analysis, Beth E. Schultz, Cynthia F. Corbett Phd, Rn, Faan, Ronda G. Hughes

Publications

The aim of this paper was to use the Walker and Avant method of concept analysis to evaluate the concept of instrumental support in the context of hospital to home care transitions. Findings from this concept analysis suggest three defining attributes of instrumental support: informal support providers, tangible support, and unmet personal needs. Antecedents identified: a strong and supportive social network, an independently functioning adult, an illness resulting in hospitalization, a change in functional status, and the patient being discharged home from the hospital. Consequences of not having adequate instrumental support: unsuccessful recovery at home, increased risk for hospital readmission, …

INTRODUCTION: Behavioural interventions in early life appear to show some effect in reducing childhood overweight and obesity. However, uncertainty remains regarding their overall effectiveness, and whether effectiveness differs among key subgroups. These evidence gaps have prompted an increase in very early childhood obesity prevention trials worldwide. Combining the individual participant data (IPD) from these trials will enhance statistical power to determine overall effectiveness and enable examination of individual and trial-level subgroups. We present a protocol for a systematic review with IPD meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of obesity prevention interventions commencing antenatally or in the first year after birth, and …

Introduction: Quality antenatal care is a window of opportunity for improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. Numerous studies have shown a positive effect of women empowerment on improved coverage of maternal and reproductive health services, including antenatal care (ANC). However, there is scarce evidence on the association between women's empowerment and improved ANC services both in terms of coverage and quality. Addressing this gap, this paper examines the relationship between multi-dimensional measures of women empowerment on utilization of quality ANC (service coverage and consultation) in Pakistan.
Methods: We used Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2017-18 (PDHS) data which comprises of 6,602 …

The Importance Of Skin-To-Skin Initiated In The Operating Room, Katina Miller Jan 2022

The Importance Of Skin-To-Skin Initiated In The Operating Room, Katina Miller

Master of Science in Nursing Theses and Projects

The benefits of skin-to-skin contact has been well documented for both infants and mothers. Out of all the different modes of delivery a pregnant patient can have, skin-to-skin contact is performed the least amount for mothers who delivery via cesarean section compared to mothers who have a vaginal delivery. All mothers, should they choose, should be allowed to have skin-to-skin contact with their infant in the operating room. This project was designed to increase skin-to-skin contact between a mother and their infant shortly after birth via cesarean section at least 75% of the time. Education was conducted during team huddles …

The purpose of this project is to implement education about the detrimental factors and consequences patients may suffer once placed in physical restraints and improve the use of alternative measures to physical restraints. This project will be evaluated by acute care …

A Day In The Life Of A Hospital Bedside Nurse: A Different Look At Nurse Stressors, Angela R. Higdon Jan 2022

A Day In The Life Of A Hospital Bedside Nurse: A Different Look At Nurse Stressors, Angela R. Higdon

Master of Science in Nursing Theses and Projects

This project is intended to be an example of the affects on the nursing work environment after years of technological advancement, healthcare reform, and process improvement. The bedside nurse work environment is riddled with a multitude of interruptions, intricate processes, and complicated documentation to prove quality care and compliance to regulatory agencies and for tracking purposes. These demands are significant as nurses are continuously reprioritizing work to meet the needs of the patient while also meeting the organizational and regulatory demands. The demands on nurses often lead to delays in patient care and sometimes omission of certain less acute patient …
