Jack Kleinsinger Presents Highlights in Jazz

Jack Kleinsinger presents Highlights in Jazz. The concert was held at NYU Loeb Student Center, Eisner and Lubin Auditorium, Monday, February 11th, 1974 at 8:00pm in cooperation with the NYU program board. Jack served as producer and master of ceremonies for the monthly series of concerts. Artists for the Gala First Anniversary concert include Jackie Cain, Roy Kral, Chuck Wayne, Joe Puma, Brooks Kerr, Matthew Gee, and Sam Woodyard. Special guest: Paul Quinichette and Cecil Payne.

The issue of February 8, 1974 included an article about optional admission for students, the RISD student board meeting which discussed optional admission and block planning. The newsletter contained information and calendars related to “singings” and singing conventions in south central Kentucky, area singing groups, musical trends, and features about collectors, churches and enthusiasts as well as advertisements from sponsors. The issue of January 11, 1974 included an article about a fire at the Farnum House dorm and the fact that the fire extinguishers were useless. It was a small fire and no-one was injured. Wintsersession began with many students taking travel courses. The Carr House coffee house was established. Comics, classifieds, and events for RISD students were also mentioned.

As a Senior Scholar pursuing the topic, Verdi's Settings of Shakespeare: From Play to Libretto to Opera, I have endeavoured to study a project relevant to my majors, Music and English. During first semester, I carefully analysed Shakespeare's plays, Macbeth, Othello and Falstaff. The highlight of my project was in January when I travelled to New York City and spent the day working with the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
