Diagnostic Ultrasonography, Joseph H. Holmes
Diagnostic Ultrasonography, Joseph H. Holmes
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
It was the development of radar and sonar during the last World War which made the ultrasonic techniques I am going to talk about possible. Following the War, Dr. K. T. Dussik had the idea that, if one directed ultrasonic waves into the body, one might obtain echoes reflected from tissue surfaces in the same way that the Navy received echo information reflected from the submarine's hull. When he did this, he did get reflected echoes from within the body, and this opened the door for other investigators to demonstrate how this echo information could be made useful in diagnostic …
Continuing Education For What?, George E. Miller
Continuing Education For What?, George E. Miller
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
Continuing education should mean continuing self-education, not continuing instruction. If this desirable goal is to be accomplished, there must be movement away from the content model, which encourages dependence upon teachers, to a process model, which demands a significant measure of self-reliance--a shift away from preoccupation with courses and methods, toward an augmented concern for educational diagnosis and individualized therapy. It does not mean an immediate abandonment of present program forms, but it is likely to be accompanied by a slow erosion of the faith which presently supports them.

Oxygen Tension: Direct Observations On The Critical Level For The Brain, Frans F. Jӧbsis
Oxygen Tension: Direct Observations On The Critical Level For The Brain, Frans F. Jӧbsis
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
In this lecture I want to address myself to the questions: What is the lowest oxygen tension compatible with adequate function, and what are the factors that set this limit? Much of the background to the material present here has been reviewed extensively in the not too distant past (Jӧbsis '64), and I will take the liberty of letting that article provide most of the detailed justification of my remarks today. [Includes discussion.]

Worms In Sheep. 2. Seasonal Variations In Worm Burdens, R W. Butler
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
The first article in this series described the worms which commonly infest sheep in Western Australia and the symptoms caused by heavy infestations.
This article outlines the effects of seasonal changes on worm burdens in sheep.
AS a basis for planning a worm control programme it is essential to have information on the seasonal changes in worm burdens and on the factors which control these.
In this article, the more important of these are considered.
Poison Plants Of Western Australia : The Toxic Species Of The Genera Gastrolobium And Oxylobium. 1. Characteristics Of The Group, T E H Aplin
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
THE toxic species of the genera Gastrolobium and Oxylobium are a unique group of poison plants which have caused considerable economic loss to stock-raisers in Western Australia ever since the early days of settlement.
These plants are widely distributed over the agricultural areas of the south-west, and, with the opening up of large tracts of land for stock-raising, the danger is as high as it has even been.

Nebraska Beef Cattle Reports
Oral feeding of stilbestrol or implanting with stilbestrol or Synovex has resulted in increased weight gain and efficiency of gain for cattle fed finishing rations.
Combining oral feeding or stilbestrol with implanting did not give increased performance above that obtained from oral stilbestrol alone in two tests. Implanting cattle fed oral stilbestrol at the start of the feeding program with either stilbestrol or Synovex gave a similar pattern of performance to that obtained from oral stilbestrol alone.

We, as seniors, are now rapidly approaching graduation and are beginning to plan our future lives and endeavors after receiving our degrees. Several are planning to continue their education in pharmacy or related fields, but the majority will enter the profession at the retail level. In whatever direction we decide to embark, let us hope we can remember the many things which our professors have tried to teach us. Probably the most important ideal set forth by the faculty is the ethical standards we all must follow, for without ethics we cannot truly call pharmacy a profession. It is up …
