Spectrophotometric And Microbiological Determination Of The Stability Of Sodium Ampicillin As Affected By Ph, Enrico Frank Raffanti Jan 1972

Spectrophotometric And Microbiological Determination Of The Stability Of Sodium Ampicillin As Affected By Ph, Enrico Frank Raffanti

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The specific purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of pH on the stability of ampicillin sodium for injection. Then, to correlate this information, a pH profile may be established to predict chemical stability with ampicillin sodium alone or when other drugs may be included in the admixture. With a pH profile the pharmacist could predict the length of time after which more than a 10 percent loss of activity would occur. Stability measurements were to be accomplished through a microbiological assay after adding ampicillin sodium to different buffer solutions. At the end of four hours, eight hours, …

Aspects Of The Oculomotor System Of Callinectes Sapidus, Antoinette Steinacker Jan 1972

Aspects Of The Oculomotor System Of Callinectes Sapidus, Antoinette Steinacker

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

An isolated perfused preparation was developed for the study of several aspects of the oculomotor system of the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus. The system for eyestalk rotation was investigated on an extracellular level. Two antagonistic pairs of muscles under visual and statocyst control were found to be responsible for stabilization and rotation of the eyestalk. The primary sensory input to the muscles appears to be from the statocysts, with both static position sense and dynamic acceleration components influencing the motor response. Two sensory feedback systems from mechanoreceptive hairs were found which influence the response of the eye stalks to statocyst …

Patient Participation, Encounter, And Methadone-Reinforcement In The Treatment Of Heroin Addicts, Stephen James Lynch Jan 1972

Patient Participation, Encounter, And Methadone-Reinforcement In The Treatment Of Heroin Addicts, Stephen James Lynch

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Tho present thesis represents a summary or research done by the author (and others) that was conducted with heroin addicts and drug abusers undergoing behavioral and pharmacological therapy at Stockton State Hospital, Stockton, California.

From June 1970 to December 1970 the Research Department of Stockton State Hospital, in conjunction with the Drug Abuse Program at Stockton State Hospital, conducted research investigating a number of difference facets relating to inpatient programs for heroin addicts undergoing methadone maintenance and drug abusers. These facets included the investigation and evaluation of (a) motivational factors; affecting the voluntary participation of inpatient heroin addicts and drug …

Perspectives In Hospital Pharmacy Design Based On Functional Requirements, Robert Kenneth Overend Jan 1972

Perspectives In Hospital Pharmacy Design Based On Functional Requirements, Robert Kenneth Overend

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It is significant that the separation of pharmacy from medicine occurred for the first time in institutions under ecclesiastic authority which were devoted to the care of the sick. In this period of history, there was little division between the church and state; therefore, business did not play any part in the overall health care scheme. The prime consideration was the delivery of the highest quality of pharmaceutical and medical services. This was best accomplished by a division of labor between the expert in the medical treatment and the expert in the selection, preservation and prepagation of medicinals. In other …

Pharmacologic Investigation Of The Anti-Inflammatory Activity Of Cryogenine And Selected Benzoquinolizine Derivatives, Louis Decato Jan 1972

Pharmacologic Investigation Of The Anti-Inflammatory Activity Of Cryogenine And Selected Benzoquinolizine Derivatives, Louis Decato

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It has become apparent in recent years that many centrally active agents possess potential anti-inflammatory capabilities. The central or peripheral mechanisms of action for these agents have not been delineated nor has their clinical efficacy baan established or refuted. The centrally active drugs, cryogenine and tetrabenazine (a benzoquinolizine derivative), previously have been shown in this laboratory to inhibit certain models of induced inflammation. The present study in rats verifies the anti-inflammatory properties of cryogenic and established that a structurally related series of benzoquinolizine derivatives possessed the capability of inhibiting both exudative (carrageenan-induced pedal edema) and proliferative (cotton pellet granuloma) models …
