The Common Intestinal Roundworm Of Swine, H. M. Martin Jul 1931

The Common Intestinal Roundworm Of Swine, H. M. Martin

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

The large intestinal roundworm of pigs is a very common parasite, and is probably present in every hog raising district of Nebraska. Until the last few years the true nature of this parasite was unknown. Little did we realize the actual harm done by this worm; but through the scientific investigations of Stewart, Ransom, and others we now know that this parasite causes heavier losses to the breeder and feeder of swine than any other now common in Nebraska.

Diet In Relation To The Teeth, Gordon Adolph Peterson Jun 1931

Diet In Relation To The Teeth, Gordon Adolph Peterson

Bachelors’ Theses

It should, be fully appreciated, by all, that the process of enamel development in the teeth, their eruption and nutrition is a part of the development of the osseous system, and is affected by the same factors that influence bone growth. If a tooth is poorly made, the best that can be done for its preservation is frequent repair.

Diseases Of The Maxillary Sinus And Their Diagnosis, Carl A. Rohrbach Jun 1931

Diseases Of The Maxillary Sinus And Their Diagnosis, Carl A. Rohrbach

Bachelors’ Theses

Before discussing the maxillary sinus as to abnormal conditions, it would be best to first review the normal conditions and relationships.

The maxillary sinus occupies the body o:r the maxilla, and is situated lateral to the lower half of the nasal cavity, below the orbit, and in front or the intra-temporal fossa. lts average size is about 35 m.m. in height, 30 m.m. in antero-posterior depth, and 25 m.m. in mesio-distal depth. It is shaped like a pyramid. The deepest part is above the bicuspid and molar teeth, and its opening is on the medial wall. There are usually two …

Can Pyorrhoea Be Cured?, Albert Richard Moeder Jun 1931

Can Pyorrhoea Be Cured?, Albert Richard Moeder

Bachelors’ Theses

Pyorrhoea is one of the best known and commonest diseases in civilization. A certain dental company is advertising that four out of five are infected by this disease. This company has been lenient in their accusation, as men who are ardent students of pyorrhoea state specifically that 90 per cent of the world’s population have it in some form or other or have symptoms which would eventually turn into pyorrhoea. Knowing this and knowing also the results and unnecessary pain and discomforts that are produced, every individual should respect and fear this disease accordingly.

Root Canal Fillings, Conrad Erwing Mietus Jun 1931

Root Canal Fillings, Conrad Erwing Mietus

Bachelors’ Theses

The great problem facing the dental profession in obtaining successful root canal fillings is resolved into two problems:

1. That of removing the dental pulp aseptically and preparing aseptic areas for the reception of the filling material.

2. The selection and adaptation of materials which will effectively seal the apex without irritation to the underlying structures and the periapical tissues. The property of excluding moisture and bacteria must also be carefully considered.

Why such qualifications are necessary, for the success of a root filling, is self explanatory when the principal function of the dental pulp is considered. It is a …

Apicoectomy, Lloyd Otto Pilling Jun 1931

Apicoectomy, Lloyd Otto Pilling

Bachelors’ Theses

The dental mind has for many years been applied to the study of prevention of dental diseases, and with certain limitations preventive dentistry is an accomplished fact in the present day. In spite of all the preventive dentistry that can be accomplished during the next twenty-five years, the profession at large will still be constantly occupied with curative and reparative work in the mouths of people who did not come under the influence of compulsory dentistry as children, or who were personally neglectful of their mouths and teeth after reaching adolescence.

Porcelain Dental Art, Milton G. Teske Jun 1931

Porcelain Dental Art, Milton G. Teske

Bachelors’ Theses

Porcelain dental art is that art of which is meant the actual working of the material porcelain , from the mixing of the body and colors to the final baking. It involves the making by the dentist of partial crowns (including inlays) and entire crowns of porcelain. It is in some degree , a return to the old vogue, when the dentist made the porcelain teeth which he mounted for his patients, but the present practice is upon a much higher plane, in which the artistic is one of the principle features.

Elimination Of Pain In Cavity Preparation, Albert N. Weinzierl Jun 1931

Elimination Of Pain In Cavity Preparation, Albert N. Weinzierl

Bachelors’ Theses

It is pain and fear of pain that vacates the dental chair. We may use every means at our command to gain our objective with nothing but mediocre success so long as the spectre of pain confronts the patient. In spite of the fact that people of today are more dental minded, the percentage of adequately cared for mouths is negligible. Various reasons have been offered as to why the dental profession fails to attract a larger and more earnest clientele. The lack of dental prestige, the lack of appreciation by the laity of the vital importance of mouth care …

Hemorrhage Following Extractions, Hyman Soref Jun 1931

Hemorrhage Following Extractions, Hyman Soref

Bachelors’ Theses

Hemorrhage, or the discharge of blood from a ruptured blood vessel during life, constitutes one of the normal results of every operation of tooth extraction. In the majority of cases its control is simple, as it ceases within a short time and need be no cause for alarm. In exceptional cases, however, the discharge may be prolonged and excessive and cause, not only great anxiety to the dentist, but also much mental stress and a condition of extreme physical exhaustion to the patient. In such cases it must be regarded as a very serious complication necessitating prompt and exceptional treatment. …

The Pulpless Tooth, John Saggio Jun 1931

The Pulpless Tooth, John Saggio

Bachelors’ Theses

The pulpless tooth has been a topic of long discussion in the dental profession. From the maze of arguments that have been given certain concepts, have been accepted. To begin with, it is commonly believed that the periapical infection, if allowed to persist, will sooner or later lead to a breaking down of the patient’s general health. It is also generally accepted that, biologically, the pulpless tooth is not a dead tooth, in the sense that it becomes a foreign body. The greater part of the dental profession also believe that an exposed, non-infected pulp may be so treated that …

Alveolomerotomy In Relation To Bridge And Denture Restorations And Periodontoclasia, Raymond J. Stingle Jun 1931

Alveolomerotomy In Relation To Bridge And Denture Restorations And Periodontoclasia, Raymond J. Stingle

Bachelors’ Theses

The progress made "by the dental practitioners in the past few years has led to the demand for a more exact method of ridge preparation by the oral surgeon. In the past, ’’alveolectomy” was the term applied to the operation of excising or cutting away any portion of the alveolar process, therefore "alveolomerotomy” has been suggested

The Nutrition Of The Enamel, Alvin Herbert Grunewald Jun 1931

The Nutrition Of The Enamel, Alvin Herbert Grunewald

Bachelors’ Theses

Probably no other subject has been so thoroughly discussed and has had such a small amount of actual experimental work done upon it, as the question of whether the enamel does or does not receive nourishment once it is fully formed...

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Functions, Louis J. Schmidt Jan 1931

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Functions, Louis J. Schmidt

Bachelors’ Theses

In arranging this thesis an attempt has been made to show that by virtue of its embryology, anatomy and histology, the spleen is the better enabled to carry out its alleged functions. The discussion here presented is confined to a story of the functions of the mammalian spleen alone. The similarities in the reactions of the spleen in the various mammalia is quite evident. Experimentation and observations were carried out on the lower mammalia while only the reactions of the splenectomized humans could be observed.
