The Effects Of Selected Aspects Of A Directed Studies Experience On Nursing Performance, Trudy M. Crawford
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Pretest and posttest questionnaires were designed and administered to a nonrandom sample of 29 senior nursing students, enrolled in a directed studies experience at a selected institution. The questionnaires gathered data which, through testing with the Analysis of Variance, attempted to predict the effects of selected aspects of a directed studies experience on nursing students' perceived ability to complete nursing behaviors. The independent variables were selected aspects of the directed studies experience including participation in nursing activities, satisfaction with amount of participation in nursing activities, understanding of professional role, and satisfaction with the directed studies experience as_ a whole. Effects Of Interpersonal Problem-Solving Training With Chronic Aftercare Patients On Problem-Solving Component Skills And Effectiveness Of Solutions, David J. Hansen, Janet S. St. Lawrence, Karen A. Christoff
Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications
Seven chronic psychiatric patients who were enrolled in a partial-hospitalization program and had difficulty solving interpersonal problems received group skills training. A multiple-baseline design was used to demonstrate training effectiveness through improved problem solving on trained situations and through skill generalization to novel, untrained situations. Maintenance of the training was evaluated after 1 month and 4 months. Social validation was accomplished by comparing the problem-solving competency of the patient sample with skills demonstrated by “normal” nonpsychiatric persons in their community.

The Relationship Between Social Support, Coping Style, And Emotional Status Among Individuals With Cancer, Undergoing Chemotherapy, Dina I. Hamati
The Relationship Between Social Support, Coping Style, And Emotional Status Among Individuals With Cancer, Undergoing Chemotherapy, Dina I. Hamati
Masters Theses
A cross section descriptive study was conducted to examine the relationship between social support, coping style, and emotional status among individuals with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. A questionnaire schedule consisting of social support, coping style, and emotional status was administered to subjects during their office visits to an oncologist. No significant relationships were found between social support, coping style, and emotional status. A significant correlation was found between those patients who had more affection, affirmation, and aid from their support system and the amount of guilt experienced by those patients (p = .05).

Analyse De 89 Accidents Du Travail Survenus En Forêt, Esther Cloutier, Lucie Laflamme

The Incidence Of Postoperative Retching And Vomiting In The Adult Patient Undergoing Abdominal Surgery Following Intraoperative Administration Of Droperidol, Gary L. Miller
Theses and Dissertations
The complication of postoperative nausea and vomiting is still one of the most common today. The potential for secondary complications associated with retching and vomiting such as aspiration pneumonitis strain of suture line with possible hemorrhage, and potential fluid and electrolyte imbalance makes prevention of retching and vomiting a primary concern in the management of the postoperative patient.
The use of antiemetic drugs to prevent or control postoperative nausea and vomiting is a long-standing practice. Droperidol, an antiemetic, routinely used since being introduced in 1963, has been found to be successful in treating postoperative nausea and vomiting. This study examines …

Body Composition And Its Outcomes And Management In Multiple Sclerosis: Narrative Review, H W Van Landuyt, J Boelaert, P Piot, L Verbist
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Background: There is emerging interest in obesity and its prevalence, outcomes, and management in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Body mass index (BMI) is the traditional marker of obesity in MS, whereas body composition, inclusive of specific body tissue compartments (e.g., fat, bone, and muscle), is often overlooked despite its relevance.
Objective: This narrative review (a) underscored the use and utility of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) as an accurate and reliable measure of body composition; (b) thematically analyzed and synthesized the current evidence regarding body composition (using DEXA); and (c) determined gaps to be addressed in future research.
Methods: The …
The Effects Of Language Processing Strategies Upon Reading Comprehension, Kathy Ann Kirby
The Effects Of Language Processing Strategies Upon Reading Comprehension, Kathy Ann Kirby
Masters Theses
In 1975, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act was passed providing educational services for children with exceptionalities. Learning disabilities was one of those exceptionalities whose definition used a language disorder as its major criteria for the identification and classification of a specific learning disabilities. The inclusion of language disorders within its definition brought about greater interest in language and the understanding of language development, acquisition and processing and how these aspects related with academic learning, particularly with reading.
The purpose of this study was to address the issue of language processing strategies in the remediating of language deficits and …
