Hemorrhage Following Extractions, Hyman Soref Jun 1931

Hemorrhage Following Extractions, Hyman Soref

Bachelors’ Theses

Hemorrhage, or the discharge of blood from a ruptured blood vessel during life, constitutes one of the normal results of every operation of tooth extraction. In the majority of cases its control is simple, as it ceases within a short time and need be no cause for alarm. In exceptional cases, however, the discharge may be prolonged and excessive and cause, not only great anxiety to the dentist, but also much mental stress and a condition of extreme physical exhaustion to the patient. In such cases it must be regarded as a very serious complication necessitating prompt and exceptional treatment. …

Alveolomerotomy In Relation To Bridge And Denture Restorations And Periodontoclasia, Raymond J. Stingle Jun 1931

Alveolomerotomy In Relation To Bridge And Denture Restorations And Periodontoclasia, Raymond J. Stingle

Bachelors’ Theses

The progress made "by the dental practitioners in the past few years has led to the demand for a more exact method of ridge preparation by the oral surgeon. In the past, ’’alveolectomy” was the term applied to the operation of excising or cutting away any portion of the alveolar process, therefore "alveolomerotomy” has been suggested

The Spleen As Part Of The Lymphatic And Vascular Systems, Clement Fox Jan 1931

The Spleen As Part Of The Lymphatic And Vascular Systems, Clement Fox

Bachelors’ Theses

A great deal of work has been expended on the study of the functions of the spleen, and the results obtained have, for the most part, been disappointing. Unlike most other organs of the body, the spleen is not easily accessible to study either by means of its physiological effects or by chemical tests to determine its functional activity, and this is especially true in regard to any secretions it may pour out. Since the spleen has no external secretion, and no known internal secretion has as yet been definitely proved the results of its activity cannot easily be studied …

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Functions, Louis J. Schmidt Jan 1931

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Functions, Louis J. Schmidt

Bachelors’ Theses

In arranging this thesis an attempt has been made to show that by virtue of its embryology, anatomy and histology, the spleen is the better enabled to carry out its alleged functions. The discussion here presented is confined to a story of the functions of the mammalian spleen alone. The similarities in the reactions of the spleen in the various mammalia is quite evident. Experimentation and observations were carried out on the lower mammalia while only the reactions of the splenectomized humans could be observed.

Asepsis In Dentistry, Harry Sher Jun 1930

Asepsis In Dentistry, Harry Sher

Bachelors’ Theses

Up to the year 1860 surgery and sepsis were practically synonymous. Surgical procedures, accomplished as they were without the use of antiseptics, could not, of necessity, be done with the greatest of care, for the time element was the chief factor in success. In consequence, infections and diseases, as for example, pyemia, septicemia, erysipelas and hospital gangrene were the rule rather than the exception. Surgery was confined practically to amputations, while thoracic and abdominal operations were almost unknown.

Disease In Connection With Dentition, Lowell Meyer Jun 1930

Disease In Connection With Dentition, Lowell Meyer

Bachelors’ Theses

In order to appreciate fully the large field included in the word disease which might be included in this thesis, the word must first be defined. It is of French derivation, being coined from the two words, des or negative, plus aise or ease. Going further, Dorland’s medical dictionary further defines it as any departure from a state of health. More specifically it is a definite morbid process having a characteristic train of symptoms. It may effect the whole body and any of its parts, and its etiology, pathology, and prognosis may be known or unknown.

Present Situation Of Dentifrices, Raymond A. Patrow Jun 1930

Present Situation Of Dentifrices, Raymond A. Patrow

Bachelors’ Theses

People of today are beginning to realize the importance of oral hygiene and as a result are trying to preserve the tissues in the mouth be keeping them in as healthy condition as possible. It is a known fact that an unclean mouth and tissues of the mouth causes serious conflict in the general health of an individual. Thus preventative measures are taken by the person who values his health in order to maintain healthy conditions of the oral cavity. Because this is true the laity always ask the following question: "What dentifrice should I use that will not harm …

Etiology Of Malocclusion, Chester Strahorn Jun 1930

Etiology Of Malocclusion, Chester Strahorn

Bachelors’ Theses

By those who regard orthodontic treatment in the light of a purely mechanical procedure the etiology of malocclusion is given a position of secondary importance. While not belittling the necessity for thorough treatment, it has been found that some cases under the most careful treatment procedure have been failures. This leads one to suppose that in such conditions the causative factors, whether known or unknown, are still in force. Therefore it is of first importance to the orthodontist to get all possible information which bears on the cause of malocclusion. Medical literature contains much testimony to the effect that all …

The Modern Trend Of Prosthetics, Arlo M. Rahrig Jun 1930

The Modern Trend Of Prosthetics, Arlo M. Rahrig

Bachelors’ Theses

This is a short discussion on the technique of denture construction which is being employed by the most prominent and successful prosthetists of today. Since it is annoying to have a technical investigation misinterpreted because of lack of uniformly applied terms, there is a necessity to annex concise definitions to the technique. Thus a strenuous effort will be made to closely adhere to the original meaning of standard terms and to modify these or add to them as little as possible when they are comprehensive. In the past it was customary to include into an articulator technique many bombastic theories …

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Physiology, Frank A. Dolce Jan 1930

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Physiology, Frank A. Dolce

Bachelors’ Theses

The aim of this essay on the structure and function of the spleen is to bring together in somewhat concise form all the available knowledge concerning this organ up to the present moment. However, time and the difficulty of obtaining valuable articles has limited this essay considerably. The first few pages while not giving a very detailed historical background may be considered quite adequate for the purpose intended. The evolutionary development of the spleen is here considered in broad outline. The microscopic anatomy of the spleen and its function in relation to the blood have been considered in greater detail …
