An Investigation Into The Use Of Hormones And Antibiotics In Animal Feeds, The Control Problem And Public Health Significance, Patsy Price
Student Scholarship
This study investigates the development, regulation, and public health implications of incorporating hormones and antibiotics into animal feeds, a practice that became a major industrial development in the decade leading up to 1958. The research highlights how substances like diethylstilbestrol and various antibiotics were found to dramatically accelerate growth rates and improve feed efficiency in poultry, swine, and cattle. For instance, the use of diethylstilbestrol in fattening steers became widely accepted by 1954 following research showing significant daily weight gains and feed savings. Similarly, nutritional levels of antibiotics were found to enhance growth by checking subclinical infections and improving the …

In this study a curriculum is proposed for the Puerto Cabezas Hospital School of Nursing in Nicaragua which is built upon the requirements of the National School of Nursing and the studymaker's findings about the needs of the people in Nicaragua.
Study was made of available material concerned with cultural, geographical, and environmental background of the people of Nicaragua as it relates to their health condition. Introduction The importance of selecting only foods containing proteins of high nutritive value has been somewhat over-emphasized in the past because of the failure to recognize the possibility of supplementary relationships among proteins that are not of high quality. Hart (11) has wisely suggested that a food should not be relegated to an inferior class because its proteins, when fed alone, are not of high biological value. Sherman (31) has reminded us that with a knowledge of the nutritional chemistry of the proteins of various foods, it becomes relatively easy to utilize their supplementary relationships so that …

Activities Of Graduates Of The New England Sanitarium And Hospital School Of Nursing, Elvie Annette Fildes

This study has been conducted to determine the nursing experience, the advanced educational attainments, and the church and community activities of the graduates of the New England Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing.
In order to secure the data, questionnaires were sent to 184 of the graduates during the 10-year period, 1945 through 1954. Sixty-eight percent responded with the desired information.
Data received from this survey have been presented in this study and compared with the findings of other similar studies.
Participating graduates of the New England Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing are residing in about half of the …
