Two Causes Of Reduced Profit From Pigs, G A L Ward Jan 1969

Two Causes Of Reduced Profit From Pigs, G A L Ward

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

LOSS of condition in a pig affects profits more severely than slow rate of growth.

Two common symptoms, scouring and itching, cause weight loss and are followed by a period of reduced weight gain.

Coccidiosis In Lambs On The South Coast, A J. Hadlow Jan 1969

Coccidiosis In Lambs On The South Coast, A J. Hadlow

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Outbreaks of coccidiosis among autumn-born lambs on the south coast have approached epidemic proportions this year.

Similar outbreaks are likely among late winter-spring born lambs. This article describes the disease and suggests measures for prevention and treatment.

Practical Disease Prevention In The Pig Herd, R B. Richards Jan 1969

Practical Disease Prevention In The Pig Herd, R B. Richards

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

DISEASES cause loss in pig production through mortality, poor growth rate and reduced food conversion efficiency.

The cost of drugs and expert advice causes further economic loss, and the dangers to public health and to other livestock in a community are serious and often-neglected considerations.

Pig Husbandry Research In Western Australia, N W. Godfrey Jan 1969

Pig Husbandry Research In Western Australia, N W. Godfrey

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

IN the past it has not been possible to undertake research work with pigs on any appreciable scale in Western Australia.

A small herd has been maintained at Denmark Research Station for some years as a demonstration side-line unit, run in conjunction with the dairy herd.

A number of very useful trials have been carried out with the Denmark herd, but its size has limited the comprehensiveness of the type of research work that could be undertaken.

Aerospace Nursing: Implications For Baccalaureate Nursing Education, Diane Wentworth

Honors Projects

Through the efforts of pers ons representing a wide variety of scientific disciplines, achievements have been made and are planned in space exploration. Medical personnel represent one scientific discipline which has contributed to the space program since its inception. As early as 1918, the United States army, recognizing a need for more information about flight conditions, established the Medical Research Laboratory of Air Service.

Relationship Between Sleep Deprivation And Postpartum Depression, Janet Wagner Jan 1969

Relationship Between Sleep Deprivation And Postpartum Depression, Janet Wagner

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Postpartum depression was thought to be an important component of maternity blues and was the factor explored in this study. Sleep was hypothesized as a factor affecting either the occurrence or severity of postpartum depression. Hence, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep deprivation and postpartum depression.

Twenty patients were interviewed one to three weeks prior to their expected dates of delivery. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Depression scale was administered during the interview and each patient kept a record of her hours of sleep during the following week. Each patient again kept a record …

Primiparae's Identification Of Critical Incidents During First Postpartum Month And Their Evaluations Of Subsequent Nursing Intervention, Jane M. Erwin Jan 1969

Primiparae's Identification Of Critical Incidents During First Postpartum Month And Their Evaluations Of Subsequent Nursing Intervention, Jane M. Erwin

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate (1) what physical care critical incidents primiparae experience while providing mother-infant care during the first postpartum month and (2) what evaluations mothers give to nursing intervention applied to such critical incidents.

Six mothers who met the criteria of selection were visited four or five times. The first visit was made in the hospital to obtain background information of the mother's preparation for maternal and infant care. The second through the fourth visits were made in the home in order to record physical care critical incidents that they ex perienced while caring …

The Preparation Of Coordination Compounds Of Rhodium (Iii) And Glutamic Acid And Substituted Glutamic Acids, Herman William Kalberer

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The father of coordination chemistry was Alfred Werner (1866- 1919). Werner's theory was largely responsible for the renewed interest in, and rapid growth of, inorganic chemistry around the turn of the century. He postulated that there were two types of valence, primary and secondary, which correspond, in modern terminology, to oxidation state and coordination number. The primary valences must be either negative ions, neutral molecules or, occasionally even, positive ions (11). He also postulated that the secondary valences are directed in space about the central ion, not only in the solid state, but also when the complex is in solution. …
