Insulin Adsorption To Intravenous Delivery Systems, Michael Joseph Zarcone
Insulin Adsorption To Intravenous Delivery Systems, Michael Joseph Zarcone
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Lack of quantitative adsorption data makes it difficult for a physician to determine the actual amount of insulin received by a patient against the amount added to the intravenous infusion system. This project was therefore initiated to determine quantitatively the extent of adsorption that would occur in a clinical setting.
In order to achieve the above aim, varying amounts of carrier insulin containing I-labeled insulin were added to the intravenous infusion delivery system. Using the most commonly utilized mode of delivery and flow rate the tagged insulin solution was allowed to flow through the intravenous delivery system. Both the amount …
Neonatal Septal Lesions And Early Malnutrition: Interactive Effects On Physiology And Behavior, Wail Abdelmajid Bengelloun
Neonatal Septal Lesions And Early Malnutrition: Interactive Effects On Physiology And Behavior, Wail Abdelmajid Bengelloun
Graduate Dissertations and Theses
Transient hypoxia or hypoglycemia in the neonate frequently leads to permanent neural damage. In developing countries, malnutrition is likely to be superimposed upon such damage. Using septal lesions as a tool, we attempted to assess the interaction between neonatal brain damage and subsequent malnutrition.
Half of the offspring of each sex in each of 28 litters of albino rats received lesions restricted to the septum at 24 hours of age. The other half underwent only the hypothermia (anesthesia) phase of the surgical procedure. Following surgery, pups were returned to their mother and left undisturbed until 10 days of age, when …

Obesity And Vegetarianism In Seventh-Day Adventist Women, Charlotte Ann Van Camp Darnell
Obesity And Vegetarianism In Seventh-Day Adventist Women, Charlotte Ann Van Camp Darnell
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This thesis describes a comparative study of 82 vegetarian and 21 non-vegetarian Seventh-day Adventist females ages 25 to 65 to discover if there is a possible correlation between diet and weight. The subjects were chosen by random sampling in the specified target population and were personally interviewed by the use of a questionnaire.
The general linear hypothesis analysis shewed that present age and relative weight at age 25 were significant in terms of present relative weight; however, physical activity and socioeconomic stratum were not significant. Diet, defined as vegetarian or non-vegetarian, was only marginally significant.
Conclusions of this study are …
The Effect Of A Pufa Diet On Human Red Blood Cell Levels Of 2, 3-Dpg, Sandra A. Dassenko
The Effect Of A Pufa Diet On Human Red Blood Cell Levels Of 2, 3-Dpg, Sandra A. Dassenko
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Fasting blood was collected at weekly intervals and the level of 2,3-DPG of the red blood cell was determined in 15 male subjects age 28 to 57 with serum cholesterol levels greater than 250 mg%. A lactovegetarian diet containing no cholesterol, a high level of dietary fiber and a P/S ratio of 4.0 was provided for 28 days.
During the course of the experimental period the 2,3-DPG increased by an average of 0.83> «moles/ml red blood cell which was highly significant (p^.001). This significant increase of 2,3-DPG which relates to an increased oxygen delivery capability of the red blood cells …

Utilization Of Mental Health Services For Children Relative To Social Class. A Pilot Study, H. K. Von Brauchitsch
Utilization Of Mental Health Services For Children Relative To Social Class. A Pilot Study, H. K. Von Brauchitsch
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Two groups of children were selected from those evaluated and treated over a two-year period. The study attempted to contrast the mental health care needs and the health care delivery system of children from the uppermost classes against those of the lowest classes. Very few diagnostic discriminators were found. Prevalence of intellectual dysfunctions In the lower classes and neuroses in the upper classes did not correlate with behavior pattern of "acting out" or "acting in." Autistic psychoses were found almost exclusively among the upper classes; suicidality almost exclusively In the lower classes. Upper class children were more frequently referred by …

The Effect Of Insulin, Fluoride And Methyl Xanthines On The Hypothalamic-Parotid Gland Endocrine Axis, Reagan Ondler
The Effect Of Insulin, Fluoride And Methyl Xanthines On The Hypothalamic-Parotid Gland Endocrine Axis, Reagan Ondler
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of insulin and fluoride on dentinal fluid movement (FM) in high-sucrose fed rats as mediated through the hypothalamic-parotid gland endocrine axis. In conjunction with the fluoride study, the possible involvement of cAMP was examined through the use of several methyl xanthines which are recognized as phosphodiesterase inhibitors.
Twenty-one day old, male Sprague Dawley rats were maintained on a high-sugar diet (62% sucrose) for 8-9 days at which time intravenous or arterial infusions of insulin, fluoride or the methyl xanthines were performed. Additional procedures included collecting plasma from rats which had …
Delegation Of Task Functions By Dietitians To Dietetic Technicians, James Lumsden
Delegation Of Task Functions By Dietitians To Dietetic Technicians, James Lumsden
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Dietetics has been identified as one of the professions in which there is a shortage of qualified personnel. The need to delegate selected task functions to extend professional skills and contain costs has been recognized in many professions faced with a manpower shortage.
This research was done to determine the degree to which dietitians will utilize dietetic technicians in the role proposed by the American Dietetic Association. A questionnaire was the instrument utilized to collect data from the 197 randomly selected hospitals in the continental United States. Task functions identified in the proposed job descriptions for the dietetic technician in …
