Chlorination Of Ditolylethane, John Joseph Hawkins Jun 1947

Chlorination Of Ditolylethane, John Joseph Hawkins

Bachelors’ Theses

At present, research into suitable dielectric media has led to investigations in the field of organic fluorides. These fluorides must be synthesized and the corresponding chlorides of various organic compounds offer a starting point for the synthesis. Substitution fluorination is to be at tempted in a specially constructed pressure bomb using various catalysts and fluorinating agents with the organic chlorides. Among other organic chlorides chosen to be used in the pres sure bomb, ditolylethane, chlorinated to various degrees, was chosen as one of the trial reagents. Ditolylethane had been received into the department in a crude form with very limited …

Studies On The Validity Of Swine Erysipelas Culture-Vaccines, L. Van Es, J. F. Olney, I. C. Blore

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

In countries where vaccination against swine erysipelas has been practiced during the last half century, there is a consensus among veterinarians that the best results are obtained when the live culture-vaccine is not only fresh and highly virulent but is endowed also with a good capacity for growth on artificial culture media. Apparently avirulent culture-vaccines are apt to engender only a transitory immunity or fail altogether. The problem presented by undesirable culture-vaccines was deemed to be of such importance to the swine industry that this Station undertook a series of experiments, to determine what influences might be accountable for the …

The Effect Of Adrenaline Injection On Glycogenolysis And Glycogenesis In Rat Livers, Virginia Mary Zingsheim Feb 1945

The Effect Of Adrenaline Injection On Glycogenolysis And Glycogenesis In Rat Livers, Virginia Mary Zingsheim

Bachelors’ Theses

Present day knowledge concerning the liver is derived from many sources and the accumulation of many methods of investigation. Sugar, which is needed by the body for energy, is stored in the liver as glycogen. Claude Bernard (26), an eminent physiologist, was the first to suspect that carbohydrates were stored in the liver. Faulty glycogen synthesis and hydrolysis results in one of our most widespread diseases, diabetes. Thus, many biochemists and physiologists have tried to find the mechanism of the process, and the primary and secondary facts which affect glycogenesis and glycogenolysis. Although the chemical secretions and hormones of such …

A Study Of Speech Deviations Of The Elementary School Children Of The Shasta County Schools, School Year 1941-1942, Ocea H. Mcmurry Jan 1944

A Study Of Speech Deviations Of The Elementary School Children Of The Shasta County Schools, School Year 1941-1942, Ocea H. Mcmurry

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Since the 1930's Speech Correction has become an accepted and established part of the curriculum of many of the large, progressive public school systems of the United States, along with marked progress in the other field of Speech. For some years, speech magazines have been publishing tabulations of speech surveys made in thee city school systems. However, there is a notable lack of speech surveys made of country school districts; because there is little being done for rural, speech-handicapped child.

In September 1937, a speech-correction, speech-improvement program was established to reach every school child in a 1 California rural country. …

American Hospital Association Letter, Madison Reaber Aug 1943

American Hospital Association Letter, Madison Reaber

IWU Digitized Nursing Archives

This letter, written on August 18, 1943, by the American Hospital Association (AHA), was sent to hospital administrators to stress the urgent need for more nurses during World War II. It explains how there was a serious nursing shortage and encourages hospitals to help with recruitment efforts for the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, a program created under the Bolton Act. The AHA, along with the Catholic Hospital Association and the American Protestant Hospital Association, wanted hospitals to serve as information centers where potential nursing students could learn more about the program. The letter makes it clear that training more …
