Emerging Strategies For Cardio-Renal Protection Beyond Raas Blockade: Emphasis On Non-Diabetic Ckd And Resistant Hypertension, Fahad S. Alrashidi
Saudi Medical Journal
Non-diabetic chronic kidney disease (ND-CKD) complicated by resistant hypertension remains a high-risk phenotype even when renin–angiotensin system blockade is optimized. This review synthesizes contemporary evidence for cardio-renal protection beyond traditional renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibition (RAASi), with emphasis on mechanisms, clinical trial data, and pragmatic sequencing. Sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors provide hemodynamic and tubular benefits that translate into renal and heart failure risk reduction in many patients with ND-CKD. Non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonism (MRA) like finerenone targets inflammatory and fibrotic signaling and may add incremental benefit when potassium is proactively managed. The GLP-1 receptor agonists offer cardiometabolic advantages with emerging kidney signals, …

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project involved the development, expert appraisal, and implementation of an evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for chronic prostatitis management in adult male patients at a private outpatient clinic. The practice problem was persistent symptom burden from reliance on antibiotic monotherapy without adjunctive therapies, contributing to recurrent symptoms and decreased quality of life. The purpose was to develop and implement a standardized CPG to improve symptom outcomes and support antimicrobial stewardship. The project question was: In adult male patients with chronic prostatitis, how does a standardized CPG incorporating adjunctive ozone therapy and structured symptom monitoring, …

RNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is a key regulator of gene expression during early embryogenesis. Using SAC-seq (m6A-selective allyl chemical labeling and sequencing), an antibody-independent m6A profiling method, we generated the first single-nucleotide-resolution m6A map of bovine oocytes and preimplantation embryos. We observed both coordinated and uncoupled relationships between m6A modification and expression of protein-coding and noncoding genes. Integrative analysis of the transcriptome, m6A epitranscriptome, and translatome revealed dynamic m6A remodeling, particularly in ribosomal protein genes. Functional interrogation of a specific m6A site within the RPL12 transcript demonstrated that loss of this modification reduces protein synthesis, disrupts translation-related gene expression, impairs zygotic …

Mental Health Self-Perceptions And Resource Utilization In Undergraduate Students At Binghamton University, Nicole J. Dreznin, Sarah Marcus
Binghamton University Undergraduate Journal
Undergraduate students face increasing rates of mental health challenges, however discrepancies in mental health literacy and utilization of resources may exist across student populations. This study examined the perceptions of mental health in undergraduate students at Binghamton University and if they differed among STEM vs non-STEM, man vs. women, and first-generation vs. continuing generation undergraduate students. A 20-question survey, containing 5 demographic questions and 15 mental health related questions was distributed through Qualtrics to 9 undergraduate classes. The available response choices were based on the Likert scale. A total of 1266 students participated. Chi square tests of independence were done …

Aim: Despite the intimate link between cerebral blood flow (CBF) alterations and Parkinson's disease (PD) pathogenesis and cognitive decline, the precise pathophysiological mechanisms driving this relationship remain elusive. This study seeks to correlate changes in CBF with regional gene expression to advance mechanistic understanding of the disease.
Methods: CBF group differences were first determined from ASL data in 53 PD and 40 healthy controls (HC) and subsequently correlated with cognitive scores (Dataset 1). A coordinate-based meta-analysis of published literature provided a second set of CBF differences (Dataset 2). Transcriptomic data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas were then correlated with …

Mammography is a critical preventative health tool that enables early detection of breast cancer and improves the likelihood of successful treatment. In Utah, screening behaviors are shaped by access to care, personal perceptions, healthcare experiences, and broader social and structural factors. Understanding both measurable trends and attitudes toward preventative care provides essential context for improving screening rates. Together, these factors influence how, when, and whether Utah women utilize mammography services, ultimately impacting early detection outcomes across the state.
