Play Patterns Of A Group Of Nursery School Children, Diane Kesler Shrier
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
[From the Purpose] The purpose of the present study is threefold: 1. To determine the typical pattern of spontaneous play for a group of twenty-five four year old nursery school children with regard to the relative amounts of time spent alone, with their peers, and with adults. 2. To define the existence and nature of correlations between each of the following: Alone and Peer; Peer and Adult; and Alone and Adult. One would predict, on the basis of previous studies already mentioned, a negative correlation both for Peer and Adult and for Alone and Peer. One would not anticipate a …

Areas Of Knowledge And Skills Essential To Occupational Therapists In Clinical Psychiatry --A Critical Study Of 395 Performance Examples, Elizabeth A. Boles
Masters Theses
Introduction
Occupational therapy, an allied medical discipline, has experienced rapid growth in the slightly more than forty years of its existence. The impetus given to this field through the training of World War I reconstruction aides, the forerunners of professional occupational therapists, has been described by Willard and Spackman.1 These authors state that the inauguration of the first collegiate training program took place at Milwaukee Downer College in 1913. By 1921 a national professional organization had been formed,2 and by 1938 four schools of occupational therapy had been accredited, based on standards set up by the American Medical …

Survey Of Concepts Held By Bedside Nurses Relative To The Prevention Of Pressure Sores, Joan Winifred Sommer
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This study was concerned with the problem of determining what understandings the bedside nurse has of the principles involved in the prevention of pressure sores. Since pressure sores are still a problem in nursing care, a study such as this was needed to ascertain the knowledge of the bedside nurse relative to their prevention. The immediate purpose of the study was to determine the concepts held by bedside nurses by asking them to state what they did to prevent pressure sores. The long range purpose was to contribute to better in-service education through the use of information gained in the …

An Evaluation Of Two Cleansing Techniques Used On Female Catheterization, Fern Iva Potter
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The Problem: This study was designed to ascertain which of two pre-catheterization cleansing procedures now in common use for the female patient is more effective in producing an area relatively free of microorganisms.
The Need: Indications of need for the study were: (1) an increasing body of literature linking catheterization with frequent urinary tract infections, many of which are "silent" but have extremely serious sequelae; (2) lack of uniformity in defining adequate pre-catheterization cleansing; and (3) absence of any recorded research to determine an adequate cleansing technique.
Method: The experimental method of research was used to collect data on one …
