Diet In Relation To The Teeth, Gordon Adolph Peterson Jun 1931

Diet In Relation To The Teeth, Gordon Adolph Peterson

Bachelors’ Theses

It should, be fully appreciated, by all, that the process of enamel development in the teeth, their eruption and nutrition is a part of the development of the osseous system, and is affected by the same factors that influence bone growth. If a tooth is poorly made, the best that can be done for its preservation is frequent repair.

Diseases Of The Maxillary Sinus And Their Diagnosis, Carl A. Rohrbach Jun 1931

Diseases Of The Maxillary Sinus And Their Diagnosis, Carl A. Rohrbach

Bachelors’ Theses

Before discussing the maxillary sinus as to abnormal conditions, it would be best to first review the normal conditions and relationships.

The maxillary sinus occupies the body o:r the maxilla, and is situated lateral to the lower half of the nasal cavity, below the orbit, and in front or the intra-temporal fossa. lts average size is about 35 m.m. in height, 30 m.m. in antero-posterior depth, and 25 m.m. in mesio-distal depth. It is shaped like a pyramid. The deepest part is above the bicuspid and molar teeth, and its opening is on the medial wall. There are usually two …

Can Pyorrhoea Be Cured?, Albert Richard Moeder Jun 1931

Can Pyorrhoea Be Cured?, Albert Richard Moeder

Bachelors’ Theses

Pyorrhoea is one of the best known and commonest diseases in civilization. A certain dental company is advertising that four out of five are infected by this disease. This company has been lenient in their accusation, as men who are ardent students of pyorrhoea state specifically that 90 per cent of the world’s population have it in some form or other or have symptoms which would eventually turn into pyorrhoea. Knowing this and knowing also the results and unnecessary pain and discomforts that are produced, every individual should respect and fear this disease accordingly.

Oral Sepsis In Its Relation To Systemic Diseases, W. F. Neuschafer Jun 1931

Oral Sepsis In Its Relation To Systemic Diseases, W. F. Neuschafer

Bachelors’ Theses

The discovery of a relationship between ill health and defective teeth is by no means recent. It has received casual mention.in the older literature and has been independently recognized, perhaps for centuries, by practitioners of medicine and dentistry. The subject has not received the prominence it deserves, however, previous to the past decade. The earlier idea of such a relation was, however, limited largely to acute generalized infection from a wound, or surgical sepsis. Rarely a clinician had a wider conception of the possible effects of a local infection.

Elimination Of Pain In Cavity Preparation, Albert N. Weinzierl Jun 1931

Elimination Of Pain In Cavity Preparation, Albert N. Weinzierl

Bachelors’ Theses

It is pain and fear of pain that vacates the dental chair. We may use every means at our command to gain our objective with nothing but mediocre success so long as the spectre of pain confronts the patient. In spite of the fact that people of today are more dental minded, the percentage of adequately cared for mouths is negligible. Various reasons have been offered as to why the dental profession fails to attract a larger and more earnest clientele. The lack of dental prestige, the lack of appreciation by the laity of the vital importance of mouth care …

Pre-Natal Diet And Infant Feeding, Frank J. Ryan Jun 1931

Pre-Natal Diet And Infant Feeding, Frank J. Ryan

Bachelors’ Theses

The times, when it was necessary for every expectant mother to sacrifice her teeth in order to supply her child with calcium, are past. Women today, who are pregnant, can live as normally and as healthily as those women who are not pregnant. This is made possible by the extensive research and investigation of diets and qualifications of foods.

Gold Inlay, Herbert A. Rotchford Jun 1931

Gold Inlay, Herbert A. Rotchford

Bachelors’ Theses

The gold inlay restoration has been used in dentistry for many years, the first ones being m~de by making a matrix of platinum or gold of about thirty-six to forty gauge in thickness, and then melting pure gold or solder of gold into the matrix. Many of these inlays are still doing good service after thirty to forty years of service. A great deal of skill and ingenuity was manifested in making many of these inlays, some of which were made hollow to afford better retention and to acquire a smaller amount of gold in the construction. In 1907 Dr. …

Alveolomerotomy In Relation To Bridge And Denture Restorations And Periodontoclasia, Raymond J. Stingle Jun 1931

Alveolomerotomy In Relation To Bridge And Denture Restorations And Periodontoclasia, Raymond J. Stingle

Bachelors’ Theses

The progress made "by the dental practitioners in the past few years has led to the demand for a more exact method of ridge preparation by the oral surgeon. In the past, ’’alveolectomy” was the term applied to the operation of excising or cutting away any portion of the alveolar process, therefore "alveolomerotomy” has been suggested

Certain Cultural Characteristics Of Digitalis Pupurea, (Linne) With A Proposed Chemical Assay, Clark W, Eidsmoe

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Since its introduction into modern medicine digitalis has occupied a very important position in our material medica. Its widespread use as a remedy in conditions of failing heart, and its effectiveness as a diuretic in certain dropsical conditions have gained for it a reputation which is equaled by few other drugs. The opinion of pharmacologiate and physicians as to its mode of action and its field of clinical usefulness has been revised a number of times, and there is much diversity of teaching as to its use in special ailments. Among some workers there is a tendency to restrict its …

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Functions, Louis J. Schmidt Jan 1931

The Spleen Considered With Special Reference To Its Functions, Louis J. Schmidt

Bachelors’ Theses

In arranging this thesis an attempt has been made to show that by virtue of its embryology, anatomy and histology, the spleen is the better enabled to carry out its alleged functions. The discussion here presented is confined to a story of the functions of the mammalian spleen alone. The similarities in the reactions of the spleen in the various mammalia is quite evident. Experimentation and observations were carried out on the lower mammalia while only the reactions of the splenectomized humans could be observed.

Vincent’S Disease The Causes Manifestations Results & Treatment, Frederick J. Schneider Jun 1930

Vincent’S Disease The Causes Manifestations Results & Treatment, Frederick J. Schneider

Bachelors’ Theses

Vincent’s infection is a disease of the soft tissues of the oral cavity. It was not until the last decade or two that Vincent’s disease was accorded the prominence which it merits. The incidence of this disease during the World’s War as an epidemic and the large number of cases occuring since then has brought this disease to the attention of the medical and dental profession. Today Vincent’s infection is encountered quite frequently and, in view of the fact that it is a cause of temporary and often prolonged invalidism, its causes, manifestations, results and treatment are constantly undergoing scientific …

Disease In Connection With Dentition, Lowell Meyer Jun 1930

Disease In Connection With Dentition, Lowell Meyer

Bachelors’ Theses

In order to appreciate fully the large field included in the word disease which might be included in this thesis, the word must first be defined. It is of French derivation, being coined from the two words, des or negative, plus aise or ease. Going further, Dorland’s medical dictionary further defines it as any departure from a state of health. More specifically it is a definite morbid process having a characteristic train of symptoms. It may effect the whole body and any of its parts, and its etiology, pathology, and prognosis may be known or unknown.

The History Of Gold Foil, George Edmund Williams Jun 1930

The History Of Gold Foil, George Edmund Williams

Bachelors’ Theses

Just when gold foil was first used is a matter of some conjecture. All historians differ in their views and it is so with the historians of dentistry. According to Dr. J. A. Taylor, it is said that Egyptian mummies exist, showing evidences of gold fillings, but at present their whereabouts are unknown. The History of Dental Surgery, Vol. 1, by Chas. R.E. Koch, cites the above incident also and further states that this gold leaf may either have fallen into the cavities or that it was placed there, similar to a gold foil filling. These statements however cannot be …

X-Ray And Its Interpretation, Sol V. Stern Jun 1930

X-Ray And Its Interpretation, Sol V. Stern

Bachelors’ Theses

The application of the x-ray as a means of diagnosis or pathological conditions about the teeth and jaws is a method that has achieved a position or the utmost importance in recent years. Its value has long been recognized by the surgeon in the diagnosis of grosser surgical lesions of the maxillary bones, such as fractures, tumors, impacted teeth and the like. Until recent, however, the dentist in general practice rarely found it necessary to resort to investigation by means of the x-ray. At the present time, to those who are familiar with its advantages, the constant employment of this …

The Modern Trend Of Prosthetics, Arlo M. Rahrig Jun 1930

The Modern Trend Of Prosthetics, Arlo M. Rahrig

Bachelors’ Theses

This is a short discussion on the technique of denture construction which is being employed by the most prominent and successful prosthetists of today. Since it is annoying to have a technical investigation misinterpreted because of lack of uniformly applied terms, there is a necessity to annex concise definitions to the technique. Thus a strenuous effort will be made to closely adhere to the original meaning of standard terms and to modify these or add to them as little as possible when they are comprehensive. In the past it was customary to include into an articulator technique many bombastic theories …
