A Critical Health Survey Of The College Of The Pacific Campus From 1936 To 1940 With Particular Emphasis On The Personal And Group Health Facilities, Thomas David Wilson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

To be able to participate fully in the great adventure of life requires a high degree of physical and mental well-being. In order to acquire this high state of efficiency, each new individual must adjust himself to his environment, to his friends, and to his prevailing economic status. This, of course, requires the aid and knowledge required by those who have gone before, and any new know ledge which can readily be applicable to our present situation. The new born child must have the best of care and guidance from its mother and others in order to make the proper …

Modern Non-Metallic Denture Base Materials, Melvin E. Goldman Jun 1939

Modern Non-Metallic Denture Base Materials, Melvin E. Goldman

Bachelors’ Theses

Prosthetic dentistry, as far back as the archeologists have traced, had its beginning among the ancient Egyptians and Phoenicians. The ruins of the Eutruscan civilization, a civilization expert in gold working, disclosed several comparatively ingenious devices for the replacement of lost natural teeth with artificial ones. This, however, is ancient history and the complexity of the subject makes it necessary that we confine ourselves to modern prosthesis.

Endocrinodontia, John Milton Goldberg Jun 1939

Endocrinodontia, John Milton Goldberg

Bachelors’ Theses

Endocrinology is the science dealing with the internal secretions and their physiological and pathological relations. The internal secretions are elaborated from their respective glands into the blood or lymph stream without a duct, and are thus called endocrine or ductless glands. The internal secretions or hormones are consequently never seen directly, thus, only their effects can be studied. The endocrine glands have the responsibility of coordinating the speed with which every cell in the body performs its duty. They are able to sense any change of environment and they react immediately by sending out hormones to that organ which require …

Immediate Denture Service, Nathan Allen Shapiro Jun 1939

Immediate Denture Service, Nathan Allen Shapiro

Bachelors’ Theses

Immediate full denture service in the sense here considered, that is, in the meaning generally applied to it in the dental literature, consists of constructing one or both artificial full dentures before the natural teeth are removed and preparing the mouth surgically so that one or both dentures can be inserted at the same sitting that the teeth are extracted. The patient is spared the embarrassement always associated with an edentulous period. He is never seen without teeth. If the work is skillfully done, few people need know that the natural teeth have been lost. This service expresses the highest …

Status Of Dentistry In Year 1890, Harry James Pearsall May 1939

Status Of Dentistry In Year 1890, Harry James Pearsall

Bachelors’ Theses

It is in little things that we show our real character; so it is in the minuteness of our manipulations as dentists that we leave our marks for our good or bad workmanship. To the casual observer, our general character may be accepted as far above the average; but many of us are so loose in little things, so careless and uncultured in our everyday language, tastes, and mannerisms, if not really repulsive in many things observable to our intimate friends and patrons, that, if it were not for their charity, we should repel them. And so in our dental …

Calcium Metabolism And Teeth, Adam Victor Walmus May 1939

Calcium Metabolism And Teeth, Adam Victor Walmus

Bachelors’ Theses

The development of teeth occurs with the rest of the body and not as a separate unit. The calcium which the teeth or bones receive is present in food in both organic and inorganic form. In all probability, the organic must be converted to the inorganic form in the alimentary tract prior to being absorbed in the upper regions of the small intestine.

Factors Concerned In The Etiology Of Malocclusions And Irregularities Of The Jaws, Vincent Stile Jan 1939

Factors Concerned In The Etiology Of Malocclusions And Irregularities Of The Jaws, Vincent Stile

Bachelors’ Theses

Where, when and. how malocclusions started, we do not know, but evidence establishes the fact that from time immemorial animals as well as every race of mankind have been afflicted with malocclusions. Knowledge of the cause, treatment, and prevention of malocclusions and caries have been the chief interest of dental science. Far more advancement has been made and far simpler is the study of dental caries than that of irregularities of the teeth and jaws. Irregularities of the positions of the teeth and the resulting malocclusions, as in every pathological condition, is essentially a problem of growth and development and …

A Manual For Hog Raisers, W. J. Loeffel Oct 1938

A Manual For Hog Raisers, W. J. Loeffel

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Hogs are one of Nebraska's principal sources of agricultural income. The popularity of the pig is doubtless due largely to his efficiency as a meat producer. He uses less feed to make a given gain than either the steer or the sheep. On being slaughtered, the pig dresses out a higher percentage of meat than either of the other two meat animals. Since pork is generally fatter than beef or lamb, it has a higher energy value. Pork lends itself to curing processes and, as cured meat and lard, occupies an important place in the world's commerce. Processing aids in …
