From Anatomy To Safe Action: The A2d And Scope-D Frameworks For Teaching Clinical Reasoning And Referral Communication In Physical Therapist Education, Arvie Vitente, Pamela Taylor, Christopher Dela Rosa, Art Lubinski
Philippine Journal of Physical Therapy
Introduction. Physical therapist learners may accurately recall anatomy yet struggle to translate it into testable hypotheses, recognize discordant findings, select proportionate actions, and communicate uncertainty within scope. Existing frameworks address clinical reasoning or structured communication, but limited guidance connects anatomy-based hypothesis testing directly to patient-centered referral communication when findings do not fit. This theory piece pairs Anatomy-to-Decision (A2D) with SCOPE-D to address that curricular gap.
Methods. Integrative conceptual design drew on literature concerning physical therapist clinical reasoning, illness scripts, cognitive load, dual-process reasoning, hypothesis-oriented patient management, safety screening, and communication of diagnostic uncertainty. These foundations were translated into features intended …

Effect Of Head Coverings On Directional Microphone Performance In Modern Hearing Aids: A Kemar-Based Laboratory Evaluation, Zahra Fekri, Mariam Mohamad, Ayasakanta Rout
Faculty Scholarship
Background/Objectives: Directional microphones are an established hearing aid technology for improving speech understanding in background noise. Although researchers have examined the influence of hair, spectacles, and earmold venting on directional performance, no systematic work has addressed head coverings, which people wear worldwide for cultural, religious, occupational, and personal reasons. This study determined whether a cotton head covering alters the directivity index (DI) of highest-level receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids. Methods: A Knowles Electronics Manikin for Acoustic Research (KEMAR) was positioned in a double-walled, sound-treated booth, and DI was measured for omnidirectional and fixed directional microphone settings, with and without a two-layer …

Implementation Of A Standardized Social Determinants Of Health Screening And Documentation Workflow In Primary Care, Callistus Eze Okereh
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The completed quality-improvement project addressed inconsistent screening and incomplete electronic health record (EHR) documentation of low-income, limited family support, and transportation barriers in a primary care clinic. The nursing practice problem can disrupt access, adherence, chronic disease management, and continuity of care. The practice-focused question examined whether an ADDIE-based education program would improve social determinants of health (SDOH) screening, EHR documentation, staff knowledge and confidence, and referral or follow-up documentation during a 6- to 8-week period. The project purpose was to develop, implement, and evaluate a role-based education program and standardized workflow for clinic staff. Evidence sources were drawn from …
Implementation Of A Standardized Protocol To Improve Provider Documentation And Initiation Of Guideline-Concordant Hypertension Follow-Up Within 14 Days In Primary Care, Stella Williams
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Hypertension is a major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, yet timely follow-up after elevated blood pressure (BP) readings is not consistently documented in primary care. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project evaluated whether a standardized hypertension screening follow-up protocol improved provider initiation or documentation of guideline-concordant follow-up within 14 days. The faculty-approved PICOT population was primary care providers in a primary care clinic; we used eligible electronic health record (EHR) encounters as the analytic records to observe provider performance. We used a quantitative pre/post design and retrospectively reviewed 30 eligible EHR encounters: 15 pre-implementation …

Objective
Medicaid recipients in rural populations experience higher rates of food insecurity. Produce prescription (PRx) programs subsidize the cost of fruits and vegetables (F/V) and may improve health outcomes. This study was designed to test whether a PRx program using a community supported agriculture (CSA) model would improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare utilization among rural Medicaid patients with/at risk of chronic illnesses. Methods
A federally qualified health center referred patients to a food bank, which delivered CSA boxes with produce to them for six months. A total of 136 participants completed the baseline survey, and 73 participants completed the …Ceftaroline Pharmacokinetics On Ecmo, A Pediatric Case Report., Kathryn Pavia, Ashton Bellamy, Alaina Burns, Allison Scott, Ethan A. Hidden Patterns: Revealing The Noise Exposure Habits Of College Musicians Throughout The Year, Maya Vallejo
Holster Scholar Projects
College musicians face elevated risk for noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) due to extensive rehearsal, headphone use, and performance activity, yet most objective sound-exposure studies rely on personal dosimeters that capture only brief windows (1–3 weeks) during the academic year, and overlook headphone-specific exposure. This study leveraged historical Apple Watch and AirPods sound data from participants in the ongoing AMI study (Skoe lab, University of Connecticut) to compare environmental and headphone noise exposure between academic-year and academic-break periods in college-age lifelong, former, and non-musicians. Sound levels (dBA) were calculated using duration-weighted, log-power averaging to account for the logarithmic nature of decibels. …
