Mayo Dental Morphology, Val K. Artress
Mayo Dental Morphology, Val K. Artress
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The Mayo Indian of Sonora, Mexico, was selected for a study of dental morphology. The objectives of the investigation were to determine the extent to which the Mayo conformed to the four criteria of the Mongoloid dental master pattern, and to compare eight other specific tooth morphologic characteristics with like studies on Mongoloid and non-Mongoloid peoples. Plaster casts were made on a sample of forty-one Mayos.
The results of the study indicate that Mayos exhibit a 46 percent frequency of shovel-shape maxillary incisors, classifying "moderate shovel" and "shovel" together. The maxillary central-lateral width difference of 1.5 mm is small compared …
The Extent To Which Patients Follow Their Low-Cholesterol Diets, Beverly Jo Peterson
The Extent To Which Patients Follow Their Low-Cholesterol Diets, Beverly Jo Peterson
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This exploratory study was conducted to discover to what extent patients follow their low-cholesterol diets. If they did not, the reasons were investigated. It was hoped that the findings would aid in defining areas of instruction which need greater emphasis when patients receive instruction concerning a low-cholesterol diet.
An interview guide was used as a data gathering tool. The dietitians at one private teaching hospital recorded all dietary prescriptions sent to them during the specified period and ten physicians were contacted for permission to include their patients in the study. The patients were then contacted by telephone and the interviews …
The Affect Of Activities In The Intensive Care Unit On Patients, Dorothy Millholland Mottweiler
The Affect Of Activities In The Intensive Care Unit On Patients, Dorothy Millholland Mottweiler
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a relationship between what the patient can see and hear of on-going activities in the intensive care unit and patient stress. The descriptive survey method was used. A checklist was developed from several sources in literature. Data were collected by observation of individual patients in two intensive care units and by recording their behavior on the checklist. Recording of stress signs was done for five minute intervals every thirty minutes for eight hours, making sixteen intervals for every eight hour period. Nineteen separate patient observations of eight hour …

A Comparative Population Study Of Small Vertebrates In The Uranium Areas Of The Upper Colorado River Basin Of Utah, Wilmer W. Tanner
A Comparative Population Study Of Small Vertebrates In The Uranium Areas Of The Upper Colorado River Basin Of Utah, Wilmer W. Tanner
Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series
This paper constitutes a terminal report to the United States Atomic Energy Commission for contract AT(11-1)819. It provides not only a faunistic and floristic study of areas having a high and low surface radiation, but also includes a consideration of their general ecology. Major emphasis is placed on the variation of the external characteristics of the small vertebrates of these areas with a statistical analysis of those characters examined in the lizards. The study was conducted in southeastern Utah (Tanner 1963, see map) from October 1959 through 1964, and was conducted as a test of the variation effects of natural …

The Relationship Between Personality As Measured By The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory And Interest As Measured By The Kuder Preference Record, Robert Glen Knudsen
The Relationship Between Personality As Measured By The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory And Interest As Measured By The Kuder Preference Record, Robert Glen Knudsen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Counselors frequently use batteries of psychological tests in helping students to select appropriate educational and occupational choices. The task of interpreting scores on a battery of tests to students is not at any time a simple undertaking. The trend toward emphasis on the importance of the relationship among the various scores in a battery of tests, has further complicated test interpretation.
Vocational choice theories suggest an interrelationship between vocational interests and personality characteristics. They further suggest that different educational majors and occupations require different types of vocational interest and personality characteristics. Two tests, The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (hereafter referred …
A Cephalometric Comparison Of The Chamula, Mayo And Navajo Indians, Norman C. Bunker
A Cephalometric Comparison Of The Chamula, Mayo And Navajo Indians, Norman C. Bunker
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Lateral head x-rays were obtained on selected samples of 24 Chamula, 29 Mayo and 39 Navajo Indians for cephalometric comparison.
Cephalometric evaluation was carried out by means of the Bjork analysis. Mean values for each of the Indian groups were determined and compared with each other and with the mean values of a group of Swedish conscripts studied by Bjork. The mean values were statistically analyzed and and subjected to the Student's "t" test to determine the significant levels of differences.
Results revealed that in comparing the three Indian groups significant differences do appear. They are few and general concordance …
Sound Communication In The Uinta Ground Squirrel, Donna Mae Balph
Sound Communication In The Uinta Ground Squirrel, Donna Mae Balph
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Numerous investigators have studied sound communication in animals in recent years. Most of these studies have been on birds, insects, or cetaceans, particularly the dolphin. Most of the studies on terrestrial mammals have been of the natural history type, and the authors have given an orthographic rendition of any sounds produced by that particular species. Few definitive studies have been done. There have been a few attempts to determine cause and function of sounds in mammals (Arvola, lImen, and Koponen, 1962; Bartholomew and Collias, 1962; Rowell and Hinde, 1962; Andrew, 1963).
No quantitative studies on sound communication in Citellus have …
Pesticide Residues, J. William Cook, Sidney Williams
Pesticide Residues, J. William Cook, Sidney Williams
United States Food and Drug Administration: Publications
METHODOLOGY for residue analysis has advanced rapidly during the current review period, from November 1962 through October 1964. Notable progress has been made in the development and refinement of methods of analysis by which any or all of a large number of pesticide residue chemicals can be detected and measured in one general operation. This is of particular significance because great interest has developed-outside the scientific community as well as within - in the possible presence of pesticide chemicals in all parts of our environment, including man himself. Only by the use of improved methodology will it be possible to …

Physiological Basis Of The Radioisotope Renogram, Louis D. Homer, Hermes A. Kontos, Joseph Magee, Malcolm E. Turner, James Oates Iii, Alton Sharpe Jr.
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
A model elucidating the relationships between blood radioactivity, the renogram curve, and urine radioactivity, as a function of time, is derived. Estimation procedures have been devised which use the data from three curves at once to estimate parameters common to the three curves, and which also estimate parameters unique to the individual curves. A program has been written for the RPC 4000 computer to perform the estimation. It was found that some model in which six different exponential parameters could be justified instead of the two proposed by the model could provide a significantly better fit of the data (P < .001), but that the fit under the hypothesis was still quite good.
