A Comparative Study Of The 5- And 3-Meal Plans In Six Convalescent Hospitals In San Bernardino County, Donna J. Meek

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

A study comparing the 3- and 5-meal plans of food service, as used in long-stay geriatric units in San Bernardino County, have been compared. Three homes utilizing the 5-meal plan and three utilizing the 3-meal plan, to serve as controls, were chosen. A random sample of ten patients from each home was observed for three days to find the daily average nutrients in the foods served, eaten, and wasted. Two Attempted Investigations Into The Complexities Of Staphylococcal Disease, Harriet M. Sands Jun 1966

Two Attempted Investigations Into The Complexities Of Staphylococcal Disease, Harriet M. Sands

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Two investigations were attempted to add insight into the multiple problems related to staphylococcal infections. A comparison study was made of the hospital expenses of a group of hospitalized patients whose apparently clean surgical wounds developed staphylococci, and a comparable group whose surgical wounds healed without infection.

A review of approximately one hundred medical records for the pilot study revealed three instances of staphylococcal infection in apparently clean surgical wounds. The three patients required 239 days of hospitalization at a total hospital cost of $13,702.11. The three comparable patients whose surgical wounds remained clean required 27 days hospitalization at a …

Evaluation Of An Inservice Training Program For Psychiatric Attendants, Homer D. Green Mar 1966

Evaluation Of An Inservice Training Program For Psychiatric Attendants, Homer D. Green

Masters Theses

Introduction

From the time that hospitals were established to care for the mentally ill, a shortage of professional personnel has existed. To a limited extent this shortage has been partially alleviated by the use of non-professional psychiatric help (attendants, aides, nursing assistants, technicians) with varying amounts of training and responsibilities. For over fifty years a continuous effect has been made to improve the quality and quantity of care given to the mental patients in both private and public mental hospitals (Robinson, 1964). Following World War II, increased emphasis has been placed on the training and status of the attendant engaged …
