Patients With Transistor Pacemakers : Their Problems In Adjusting To Daily Living, Miriam L. Moore Jun 1964

Patients With Transistor Pacemakers : Their Problems In Adjusting To Daily Living, Miriam L. Moore

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

It was the purpose of this study to gain greater insights into the problems and needs of patients with artificial pacemakers. The problem was to find out in what ways the pacemaker affected the patients' manner of living and what problems they had had in adjusting to a new way of life.

The method of the study was the descriptive survey; an interview guide was the tool. Seven patients who had been electronically paced for periods of four weeks to two and one half years were interviewed in their homes. The ages of the three men and four women ranged …

The Relationship Of Central Venous Pressure To Hemorrhage In Open Heart Surgery, Mable Reynolds Jun 1964

The Relationship Of Central Venous Pressure To Hemorrhage In Open Heart Surgery, Mable Reynolds

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The problem of this study was to review 100 open heart surgical cases in a selected hospital to determine the changes occurring in central venous pressure in relation to blood loss.

The review of literature revealed that central venous pressure is an important factor in determining immediate postoperative care of open heart surgical patients. If central venous pressure falls below the normal range of 5 to 10 centimeters of water, hemorrhage is suspected. If central venous pressure is elevated between 15 and 20 centimeters of water, cardiac tamponade is suspected.

The descriptive survey method of research was used. Medical records …

A Cephalometric Evaluation Of The Navajo Indian, Robert L. Cole May 1964

A Cephalometric Evaluation Of The Navajo Indian, Robert L. Cole

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

A random sampling of 54 Navajo Indians was examined and a selective group of 20 subjects presenting harmonious facial profiles and good occlusions were taken from this random sampling for specific comparison with Caucasian and other ethnic groups.

The methods used in this study are as follows: Plaster casts of Maxillary and Mandibular dental arches, profile photographs and lateral cephalometric X-rays. The cephalometric X-rays were traced in the standard manner on both Downs' and Riedel's analyses. The mean values for the Navajo group were compared with the mean values established for Caucasians by Downs and Riedel. The comparison was subjected …
